Steeler first rounder Maurkice Pouncey investigated (1 Viewer)

Florida athletic director Jeremy Foley issued a statement on Monday confirming that the school has investigated an allegation that ex-Gators center Maurkice Pouncey took $100,000 from someone affiliated with an agent before playing in the Sugar Bowl.

"We were made aware of some information in early June that we reported to law enforcement and we then shared with the NCAA and the SEC,'' Foley said in a statement. "At this time we have no information that has indicated that there are any compliance issues for the University of Florida.''

Pouncey won the Rimington Award, as the nation's top center in 2009. He elected to turn pro after his junior season and was a first-round draft pick of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Twin brother Mike decided to stay in school for his senior year rather than leave early.

Lisa Webster, the mother of the Pounceys, did not immediately return messages seeking comment.

The claim, which came to the school in letter form but was not signed, is that Pouncey took the money after the Gators' loss to Alabama in the SEC title game and before the Sugar Bowl win against Cincinnati.

If the NCAA finds Pouncey took money from an agent, UF could have to vacate its Sugar Bowl victory. -- David Jones, Florida Today

C'mon guys. This maybe ventures a tad over into college football, but this could cause Florida to vacate it's bowl games.

The worms are just starting to pop out of the can. Reggie Bush's agent has gone on to add that there will be another UF alum implicated in this whole thing before it's all over, someone much "bigger" than Pouncey. Hmmm, I wonder who that could be?

Also, breaking news: Reggie Bush is going to have to turn over his Heisman Trophy according to the USC student's association, just reported locally on the radio. Sorry, no link yet.

I think a college being stripped of bowl games because one player on the team took money from an agent is pretty dumb.

There will be one other Florida Gator when all this comes out. The agent will be charged with a class 2 Felony for his part. Also implicated are players from South Carolina Gamecocks. And Reggie Bush's trophy giving back to the Heisman hall... Man, this is just getting started.

From what ESPN said, the school is returning their Heisman trophy they receive when a player wins. R.Bush isn't being made to return his, just the school doing it without being forced.

That's correct. I should have edited my first post. Still the NFL is quick to punish players for DUI's. Why can't there be retroactive punishment for behavior that tarnishes the "shield"? I can see Reggie Bush and Pete Carroll smiling as they count the millions in the bank. They are "untouchable", while new college recruits have to pay the price of their transgressions. That's not right. I hope that they get theirs someday.

Carroll coaches the Seahawks, isn't that punishment enough? :hey:
