FTPSt. Pierre stinking it up out there. I hope we get to see Bryan Randall at QB for the Steelers for at least part of the second half.Local kid.

"It's not about the money." Uh, ok.so what's the deal with strahan?
IMHO:I seriously believe what he is doing, has done, and has a chance at... is the passing set single back.* I really like that Carey Davis. He had 2 or 3 really impressive power runs and a couple more catches. Any chance he could take the #2 RB spot away from Davenport?
I wholeheartedly agree about not reading too much into the preseason (started a thread about that yesterday in fact). What we saw last night was the Steelers were ready to play and the Saints weren't. I think that happens a lot in preseason -- no big deal for either team. As a Steelers fan it was nice to see them looking sharp but it doesn't really mean too much.I will say that Nate Washington had better learn to hold on to the ball and I also thought that Matt Starks looked a bit shakey on a couple of plays. Simmons looked like a beast out there though. In any case it is nice to have football back...Take what you will from the game but I have to say the Saints didn't want to play. They looked tired and really weren't into the game as much as the Steelers were. The Steelers looked like they were playing for the Super Bowl while my team looked like they wanted to go home. If you really think that the Saints defense will play that way come regualer season you are dillusional. Payton had the most vanilla offense and defenses called throughout the game. the Steelers were playing like they do in the reg season and I know they werent using the plays they will use in reg season but they wanted to win that game to show something about the team and the coach. Look at our preseason last year. If that was any indication of our defense and season it was off by light years. Don't read too much into preseason.
I agree -- right now it looks like the team may be choosing between Haynes and Carey Davis for the one-back spot. Last night Davis looked like a natural Steeler one-back in the mold of Haynes and Fuamatu-Ma'afala while Haynes only got one carry that I remember, and he didn't seem to have his normal burst. And according to Dale Lolley, Davis pretty much owned the backs-on-backers drills he was in last week, so he seems to be solid in pass protection, which is probably the most important requirement for our one-backs.Gary Russell was running well on the inside, too. Maybe it will come down to a choice between Russell and Barlow?IMHO:I seriously believe what he is doing, has done, and has a chance at... is the passing set single back.* I really like that Carey Davis. He will be taking Verron Haynes job.
Which sees much more time the Najehs does.
Pittsburgh runs the tailback with a fullback. (Parker + Kreider) Which Najeh back up.
Then they run the passing (3rd down) set which is primarily Haynes. This looks to be Davis's calling.
#1 bolded: I think it does mean something to us. Granted, the Saints didn't look season-ready in the 1st pre-season game of the year. Most teams don't. Big whoop. What I'm excited about is that Cowher's teams generally didn't hit stride 'till week 4 of the regular season. If they look this sharp already, my biggest concern could be peaking before the playoffsi Oh, darn the luck.#2 bolded: While Simmons did look good last nite, the RT(s) only looked O.K., and Marvel was blown up on one of the 1st plays in which he had an easy angle on the DE (W.Smith IIRC) on a off-tackle-left play (Davenport?). O-line wasn't inspiring, but I don't expect too much on the 1st (and early) pre-season game of the year. What we saw last night was the Steelers were ready to play and the Saints weren't. Well, we all knew by week 4 that all they had to do was go over and abuse that turn-style NO had playing RCB. Yet NO still managed a fantastic season. However, when a team's game plan is go long and I'll hit you, that is just basic coverage skills. The Saints were beat bad last night in coverage much like last year and it will not take coaches long to come up with a game plan to beat this defense.
Actually Thomas was playing some fantastic football until around week 11 or 12. It wasn't until after he sustained an injury + Harper knocked out for the season that the secondary had problems. And ROFL at all the people thinking this game has any significance at all on the rest of the season. Even if the Saints defense doesn't improve one iota they're still in great shape in the NFC.we all knew by week 4 that all they had to do was go over and abuse that turn-style NO had playing RCB. Sorry, I maybe greedy because I've been waiting a while as a Saints fan, but I'm thinking Superbowl this year and the only way I see that happening is if the Saints tackle better and not give up the long pass plays.Afro Samurai said:Actually Thomas was playing some fantastic football until around week 11 or 12. Great season....yes. Obviously room for improvement. Those plays we got burnt on was simple 7 on 7 drills you would see at practice. No way that should happen, even in preseason.Well, we all knew by week 4 that all they had to do was go over and abuse that turn-style NO had playing RCB.
