Steeler's officially done for 2006 (1 Viewer)

The Steelers were not looking at this from the big picture here. Ben should not have played this week due to the concussion and I don't care if he said he was ok, of course he is going to say he is ok to play what player wouldn't. The NFL has players playing with injured spleens enduring the pain so why shouldn't he right? If Ben is supposed to be your QB for 10 years your team was already 2-4 there was no reason to rush him back against the Raiders come on now. If you don't have faith in your backup QB to win a game against the Raiders a team with little to no offense, then why the heck do you have a backup at all, throw Hines in there just kidding. Maybe the Steelers didn't want to create a QB controversy if Batch played decent.
Ben received clearance from the Steelers medical staff to play. If you trust them and Ben looked okay in practice then I don't see how you can justify sitting your #1 QB, especially when you are 2-4 and need a win badly. If you think Batch is the better QB then he should be the starter and not Ben.
I see what your saying and I don't think Batch is a better player but come on now yeah he was cleared to play but I still don't think it was the right move. Whether they won or not. Qb's that receive concussions are usually out longer than 7 days. I know there are varying degrees of concussions but you don't put your franchise player out there that fast after being knocked out last week.

When I think of players the Steelers lost this year I immediately think of the Bus. I'm wondering if some of the decline could not be attributed to less ability in and respect for the running game.

If the pass protection is breaking down faster as well....

Not sure if there is a psychological effect of Ben having gone trough a couple of tough months - School os hard knocks to the head indeed.

I'm not killing him. For the last 3 years, he's been the best QB this team has had since the 70s. He just has to get his head together, that's all.
I agree... but I don't think he does that if he's benched. Imagine if YOU faceplanted into a windshield and nearly died and then had your appendix taken out. They probably rushed him back too soon, but I suspect it was to have a game under their belt for the division game against Cincy. You struggle a few weeks until finally putting together two nice games before you take a big hit and get a concussion. And then manage to come back the following week (again, maybe it wasn't a good idea) and struggle. If the season *IS* lost, then let Ben deal with the adversity on the field because it will make him a better QB in the long run. And if it's not, well, I think your only chance in making a playoff run is with him behind center.
I never advocated benching him. No way in the world I sit him down unless it's a medical issue.

The Steelers could use the Bus but I think they miss Randel El a LOT more than any of us thought they would. If there is one player I could have back this year it would be El.

Especially considering one of those losses was, well, almost directly related to a fumble by Randle El's replacement.Holmes will make you forget about El eventually, but yes - he needs to learn how to hold on to the ball.

Colclough fumbled away the Bengals game, not Holmes. Holmes fumbled in the Atlanta game, however, the defender punched the ball out. It wasnt just a lack of concentration like Colclough. The Steelers are likely finished, but there is still the slightest sliver of hope. Still are 5 division games left, two against the Ravens. I honestly dont think Baltimore is as good as their record (neither are the Saints, but that's another thread). Tough road ahead, and it's likely a deadend, but the games still have to be played. We'll see what happens I guess. :halfhearted:towelwave:

Ben should have the start and he did. But it was clear that things were not going right for him late in 3rd or early in the fourth, I think he needed a breather and the team needed a spark. Batch MIGHT HAVE been able to deliver one.In Ben's defense, the O-line was not blocking well. Even the run blocking couldn't open holes for FWP.
