I think Curry's impact on the game can't be understated and I prefer him as a player, but looking at the numbers it's gotta be Kobe. The defense puts him over the top.

This is my answer. Steph has been the far more unselfish player, like letting Durant be the star of the finals the first couple years they were together, Kobe never would have allowed a star of his caliber to come in during his prime and be "the man." I do agree that Bryant was the better all around player and was more durable than Steph has been, but Steph's intangibles cannot be overlooked.

Kobe’s defense was ridiculously overrated. And while not to the same extent Steph’s defense is underrated (after his first few years in the league he was like league average for a PG).

Steph is a way more efficient scorer and because of his ridiculous range has changed the way the entire league plays the game on both sides of the ball

Otherwise, I think this is a reasonably good question. I think Curry's absolute peak from age 26 to 29 was better than Kobe, but I think Kobe's slightly off-prime years are better. Without the achilles injury, I think we would have a higher opinion of him as well. Those last two seasons were ROUGH.

I agree with your conclusions, but if you are doing a direct statistical comparison you probably need to adjust Kobe's numbers up 10% or so to account for offensive inflation.

So you don't think Kobe ran Shaq out of town? They could not coexist because Kobe couldn't handle Shaq using the regular season to get ready for the playoffs. While Kobe didn't run Gasol out of town (that was a bit of a liberty to stick with the SWC-er comments) he definitely had a hand in Shaq leaving.

The way I see it, I would never have wanted to play with Kobe. He blamed his teammates, quit to try and prove points, and was a ball hog to get his. He would have been terrible to have as a teammate. Steph on the other hand would be awesome to play with. It's no contest in my eyes.

Yep.....doesn't mean that Kobe didn't push him out instead of trying to work it out. There was enough blame to go around to both of them. The biggest issue I have is Kobe quitting on his team in the playoffs. Can't get past that.
