Stephen A. Smith covering NFL issues? (1 Viewer)

Am I crazy or is Stephen A. Smith covering much more of the NFL than he has in the past?

He can have the NBA. Give him MLB, golf, tennis, whatever else, but please, please not the NFL.

If I see this guy on the pre-game show when the season starts, I think I'll lose my ####.

I watch NFL Network predominantly, now it might be exclusively.

I like me some Stephen A. Don't watch as much sports tv as some of you, but I'm not seeing anyone else out there that's noticeably more entertaining.

I actually liked him when he was on 710 in LA because he was the one rationale voice in a sea of idiots (aka the countless tgunz's who would call in not understanding my teams would trade their stars for peanuts to the Lakers) plus he cracked me up when the ladies called in.

Please, no. Smith is an exclusive club of announcers/analysts who force me to hit the mute button.

One of the best days of 2012 was when he signed off 710 for the last time. He was awful. And for a guy who's supposed to be an NBA insider, he didn't seem to get much right when he called his shots.

How in Christ does a Screamin A./Skip Clueless combo still get ratings???!!!
Apparently people like hearing the same Tebow debate over and over.Even today during the NBA playoffs and what Tiger did yesterday they got their 10mins of Tebow in.

I'll bet Beadle gets reprimanded big time for blowing this up the way she did. Let's face it, she created some serious strawmen in her tweets, which escalated everything, and you know ESPN won't like her publicly bashing a fellow ESPN personality like that. My guess is neither gets fired, but both get a serious talking to.

FollowSo I was just forced to watch this morning's First Take. A) I'll never feel clean again B) I'm now aware that I can provoke my own beating.

12:39 PM - 25 Jul 2014
Seems like a perfectly reasoned rejoinder to me.

ETA: IMO nothing will get said to her. If this were Dana Jacobson getting drunk and potty mouthed at a public event, then yes. Here, not so much.

Wow she is getting some really ugly stuff there.

She even doubled down on her previous comment:

FollowI'm thinking about wearing a miniskirt this weekend...I'd hate to think what I'd be asking for by doing so @stephenasmith. #dontprovoke
She's obviously a bomb-thrower...

The mini-skirt tweet was just stupid. Smith said nothing about sexual assault or about women provoking men by wearing certain types of clothes. That is what I meant by her creating strawmen. Granted, she is a twitter attention whore, which is entertaining, but ESPN won't like her going off like that about a co-worker. Hell, I remember Bill Simmons getting suspended from using twitter for days for saying something far less controversial about that show.

Smith didn't give examples of what kind of provocation women should be avoiding, so this is what happens: people fill in the blanks. Beadle is using the provocative clothing because that is exactly the kind of, dumb #### people have used in the past as an example of women 'asking for it.'

Sexual assault different than domestic violence? Of course. Smith is using the same dumb blame the victim cases, however.

I don't think Smith said anything wrong. He doesn't condone violence, that's clear. He also doesn't condone being an ##### to a violent person cuz doing so can get you KTFO. Seems reasonable.

Dude, seriously?

When you double down on the "ya know, sometimes the chick just asks for it chick" and "stop being responsible for a guy beating you" lines, you deserve whatever is coming to you. This was not some nuanced private discussion. This was a public realm, repeated pathetic and defensive tweets that just dug him deeper.

Would Steve be cool with the same logic being applied to racists?

We know racists are d-bags but black guys do yourself a favor and don't provoke them.

Reasonable adults are aware that getting dragon punched is a possibility if you talk crap to someone's face right? Nobody is saying that it's cool if it happens, but don't be shocked if it does. Don't be naive and believe that you can spew venom at someone (either gender) with no consequences. I agree that the: "person A was asking for it" statement is dumb.

My advice would be to know your personnel. There shouldn't be different standards for males and females.

I would say racist are free to use the N word all day everyday. If they say it to a bunch of black dudes, the racist can safely predict that an as-whooping is coming.

Did the racist ask for a beating? No. But don't be a moron and think people will ignore it.

The attacker can also expect to be in jail. Cause and effect.

I think the best thing you can do right now is not provoke this thread

Reasonable adults don't use this as an excuse to beat a woman. ####, any man who's half a real man doesn't even think along these lines.

Plenty of girls have spewed some pretty awful venom my way. Never even thought of hitting one of them. Not saying I didn't "want" to, but the thought of actually doing it - never. crossed. my. mind.

And I don't think that is such a supreme victory for me btw.

Much like Stephen A - I think that train has already left the station.

I'm against the beating of either gender by either gender.

You're using words like "excuse", which is completely unrelated to what I said. Are you referring to premeditated attacks?
