He is a FA right now and I havent seen anything out of Cooper to warrant him being rated that High (just look at his tackle stats so far). I could drop Sims..but I think he is a better play than Cooper. What am I missing?

You could drop Sims. You could also jump off a bridge.

Be careful with the leftmost column on the cheatsheets.

The raw ranking actually means very little and I strongly doubt that John would have Cooper ranked 6th in FBG scoring on a confidence style cheatsheet. Cooper has relatively less tackles that many of the players below him and is only one full fantasy point from dropping all the way to #26.

Many of us, especially on the IDP side, have some philosophical differences with how the cheatsheets are presented because we believe it leads them to be misused. John used to do projections and add a deep confidence style cheatsheet at the bottom of the EOTG column each week, but that takes an inordinate amount of time and takes away from the depth of coverage he can do elsewhere.

The MyFBG function helps with these cheatsheets, but you've still got to be careful to look at the entire picture and not choose the 10th ranked backer over the 16th ranked backer. In many cases, they're either the same projection or very different based on scoring system or what you need (upside vs steady production) in any given week.

Again, I'm not here to speak for John but there's no way he would advocate dropping Cooper for Sims this week, given that both are in that tier from 4-22 that are separated by 1.2 FBG points.

Yes I am using the MyFBG function, thats where the rankings I am seeing are coming from. Whats really wierd is the going forward is even worse... Cooper is the #3 LB and Sims #34.

Sorry, we can't have that much subscriber content posted. JB

Sorry about the edit, but that's a significant amount of subscriber content to post. Discussing the rankings of a player or two is okay.

I'll ask John to address his reasoning for Cooper's long term value, but I'll make similar points about the Week 8 Cooper-Sims distinction.

While your scoring system looks like it rates big plays highly, you need to be confident that Cooper will hit one of those percentages this week, otherwise he'll finish behind Sims according to the cheatsheet despite what appears to be a very significant difference in raw rankings.

Ok, thanks.. I understand. Let me know what john says...seems maybe its a mistake.

Let me start by saying that the unusually high ranking was somewhat of a typo but not a complete mistake. I do like Cooper this week based on match up. Derrick Johnson, Jon Beason, Gary Brackett, Michael Boley and Zach Thomas have all put up 7 or more solo stops versus the Texans and Cooper is a likely candidate to add his name to that list. I didn't however, intend to project him quite that high on the list.

It might help if you all understand our weekly process. On Monday night I send David Dodds my initial projection which are done on an excel file. He then plugs them in to the program that sorts the numbers and generates the initial cheats. I see the initial sort the same time you do. When I see someone like Cooper a little too high I go back and adjust the numbers a little for the update. The projections are generally updated several times during the week based on breaking news and injury updates. Before this thread had even started I realized that Cooper needed an adjustment and had already sent an updated file. There is generally a little elapsed time between my sending an update and it actually getting posted.

The bottom line here is that if you see a guy who looks a little out of place on the initial cheats, please be patient and don't freak out or assume I have lost my mind  and by all means feel free to drop a question in the forum. Unfortunately I don't have time to frequent the forums but Dr. Bramel does a good job of letting me know when something comes up that I need to respond to.

Never drop a dependable every week play like Sims just because someone is ranked high in a given week. As JB mentioned, the cheat sheets are strictly projections driven and in no way reflect intangibles like consistency or how much confidence I may have in certain numbers. Sims isn't a great big play threat which is going to hurt his cheat sheet rankings but he's going to be productive nearly EVERY week. Cooper may have more "potential" in a given week but you don't want to trade dependability for potential.

Yeah, but on the going forward (for the rest of the year) Cooper is still rated way higher. This is what made me wonder, but I didnt put that much faith in Cooper and thought maybe I was missing something on what the Chargers were going to do. Going forward Cooper is the #3 LB and Sims #34, which is what made me ask the question about dropping Sims for the long term.Acutally as of just now i checked and Cooper is #3 and Sims #20 going forward.
