SJax signed

Running back Steven Jackson has signed a long-term contract with the St. Louis Rams and was on the field for practice on Thursday after completing a physical.

NFL Network's Adam Schefter reports Jackson signed a five-year extension worth $49 million, including $21 million in guaranteed money. The contract will likely void after two years, making it a three-year, $29.3 million dollar extension.

Jackson was entering the final season of the five-year, $7 million deal he signed as a first-round pick in 2004.

Jackson ended his holdout on Wednesday while on the verge of the new deal, flying to St. Louis from his home in Las Vegas.

Coach Scott Linehan says Jackson will be in uniform for Saturday night's preseason game against the Baltimore Ravens but wouldn't play. The coach says Jackson reported in good shape but needs to condition his body for football.

Its about time.

isn't that oh so similar to what they offerred him 2 months ago?
looks like quite a bit more up front money and he didn't have to live in a dorm for 3 weeks. Nice deal for him, he will be cashing in again in 3 years.

No offense to SJAX owners but I would not be surprised if he struggles this year. Let me rephrase that, "if the team struggles". STL could be close to rotten this year on offense, unless Holt and Bulger are 100% all season long and that is a lot to ask IMO.

I think he could carry over what he did at the end of last year. I think St. Louis will be better this year, not worse. All bodes well for Jackson. It's not like they are in a powerhouse division. Jackson's injury at the beginning of last year probably set them back more than anything else.

I don't think there's any question they're going to struggle, but how is that any different from any other year since Sjax has been there? In 2005 things were as bad as they could possibly be. Starting QB out. Backup QB out. 3rd stringer starting. Holt banged up, Bruce missed time, even the coach missed some games in the hospital and of course, the line was as injured as any other team in the league.2006, banged up line and he went for 2000+ yards.2007, they had 13th string offensive linemen starting and guys hurting everywhere, including Sjax himself and he still finished VERY strong after he came back from his injury.

So 3 years running he has had to do it with next to nothing as help. Enter year 4. I love the guy's ability and still wish Dallas had drafted him but he has to do it all. I went through that with LJ and finally gave up. The best thing he has going for him is the division, that helps.

Yeah but they're not as good as Dallas!
