Stephen King's "Under the Dome" coming to CBS (1 Viewer)

I hate myself for continuing to watch this.
This. I never knew what hate-watch meant until recently. I started to hate-watch The Following but was able to give it up because there was better options available, but this dreck is only "successful" because there's nothing else on.
Favorite hate-watch show of recent memory has to be Jericho. Was actually relieved when it was cancelled.

I was able to give up on Revolution, but I don't think I will be able to with Under the Dome.
Jericho was actually a decent show, I wish it wasn't cancelled. They ended the series well and it would have been a good next season seeing the two governments battle it out. I actually got to rewatch a bunch as I stumbled upon it on Amazon Prime and my son wanted to watch it over the summer.

Jericho >>>>>> Revolution >>>>>> Under the Dome

With all due respect, if you didn't know there was a lake, what show have you been watching?

They had to use the farmer's well because the lake water was poisoned. Or something.
Shuke is correct here. The lake has always been there, We have seen it from Big Jim's house a few times. If I recall it was ep2 or 3... something was being released into the lake. Petroleum or waste or something.
Yeah, I don't recall the reason it was considered undrinkable, but they did mention that.
Mentioned it? They showed Barbie and redhead going to the lake and seeing all the dead fish.
Why the condescending tone? Do you really think I am going to remember the exact details of this show? I decided early on I would watch it till the end, but I am sure not going to fill my head with exact details. Just vague memories is all the storage I have allotted in the lobes.

:lmao:

How did you get a tone out of that?

What novels have you written? Any best sellers in there?
Have you ever recorded a hit song? No? I'll bet you still have opinions about music.
True. Of course the obvious difference here is that I don't say "Anyone who likes ________ has to be poorly educated, or has never been exposed to "good" music. I realize that my opinion is just that.
If somebody seriously tried to argue that KISS belongs in the pantheon of Great Musicians, you wouldn't question that person's qualifications a little? I sure would.

How did you get a tone out of that?
I already mentioned I have limited space dedicated to this show and that includes my Wernicke’s area, so I can only go so far as a tone. ;)

I have 0 recollection of this. Must've dozed off. This show is my sleep aid IMO

Barbie and the redhead brought a glass of the lake water to Big Jim.. then proceeded to light it on fire...

Yup, when the dome came down it must've severed a gas line or some #### like that

:lmao: at the whole "how don't you remember the dead fish and fire water angle", and then calling one of the main characters "the redhead"

I'm guilty as well. I have no fn clue what her name is :lmao:

I just know the mini-dome hates fat chicks.
Can you blame it? I hate that fat chick. Dodee the super-science Asian with her yagi. *Shoots self*

In fact, it would be a lot easier for me to just list the characters I do like in this show.

Barbie and, I'm sorry, I got nothing.

BUT WHAT'S WITH THE TONE, MAN?

True, but it was previously portrayed as a small body of water that looked man-made or the result of damming or something, not the enormous, Lake Erie-sized expanse we saw this week, complete with open boating, vacation homes, and Mare Winningham.

Julia. And I don't think I care for your tone.

No love for the spinner? She's a doll.

I would use my thrillhammer to punish her for all the sins of man since 1846.

OK, I'm lost on this one. I tried some googling for tone and this is all I got. LINK

I am surprised no one mentioned how Big Jim, the guy who knows everyone, didn't know the mom of a chick he worked with secretly. Especially, since he went to school with her mom, but I digress. Now I am little upset with the tone I am taking with myself.

To me, the more holes the better. Convinces me that despite having a published book to work with they are just making up things as they go along.

I think King is a fantastic writer.

That said, this show is pretty bad. It's staged like a day time soap. The dialogue is hideous, with silly expository info dumps. The reactions of the characters to said are ridiculous and make no sense. The leaps in logic defy even bad sense. I think some of the acting may be good, but what they're given to work with is pathetic.

I'm a guy that can roll with silly shows like American Horror Story and Walking Dead, but my only anchor on this show was King's book. And they've already deviated so far from that that I see no reason to keep watching.

The Walking Dead is light-years better than this show. Granted, TWD is never going to be confused with The Wire and it has plenty of stupid elements, but it has some pretty good stuff going on too. Dome has no redeeming features. The premise is stupid, the storylines are stupid, the writing is atrocious, the characters are all one-dimensional, and even Hank can't turn this ship around. I seriously hope that the reason for its high ratings is thanks to people like me who tune in for some hate-watching.

I think Siberia sucking even worse has something to do with it.

:thanks: I now have motivation to keep watching. If there is going to be a hole, it better be one that Mack truck can drive through.

I saw one episode of that and thought it was the worst thing I've ever seen on TV

The Wire sucks, and anyone who likes it is uneducated.

I've been watching Siberia. It is easily the worst television this summer. It is such an epic trainwreck that I can't look away.

I know you think you're being clever here, but if you really think that The Wire and Under the Dome are in any way comparable -- other than the fact that they both aired on television -- you're just digging a deeper hole for yourself.

A) I didn't say they were comparable. To be so intelligent, your reading comprehension isn't very good.

B) The Wire isn't as great as people like you make it out to be. Try living in Memphis and Baltimore, and see how interesting shows like that are to you.

I don't know why I keep watching. It's not really holding my interest. The g/f and I just watch them when we are bored. But it's not a good show.

I work from home and tend to do a lot of work at night when the kids are asleep, so I like having the TV on in the background since I shouldn't be working that late. If you like Sci-Fi/fantasy type of shows (anything from zombies to star wars) then you are like me that I have to watch it since there is nothing else new on right now. If this was Fall with all the shows being new, I would have given up on it already.

You're right about this one. I don't do that, and I'm not going to do it here either. If you want to imagine me as a high school dropout, that's fine.

I imagine you as someone who makes broad generalizations, and then doesn't have the stones to back up their opinion, which is completely off-base.

I don't understand this part. I've told you several times why King is hack -- his characters are one dimensional, his dialogue is eye-rolling bad, and he doesn't know how to write an ending.

And  at "stones" have anything to do with posting stuff anonymously on a message board. Serious Business?

It was with regard to the people who enjoy his writing being uneducated. You were the one who brought education into the discussion, and then can't back it up.

I think his dialogue is pretty good. I am talking about books not these tv adaptations. His dialogue is not McMurtry good but its pretty good in my opinion.

King's dialogue is fine most of the time. However, in UTD, he had the teenagers speaking in 80s Talk - "rad, man" and the like. It was kind of jarring and had me "wtf?" as the kids he spoke through in IT and The Body sounded believable to me.

I haven't seen Revolution but just saw the ad on the premiere coming up and that looks to be more interesting than this series. This series started slowly going flat after the 1st epi when they had those cool special effects. I missed Mon's epi. I think I may just watch the last "cliffhanger" and see if it will really hang me over till next year... :coffee:

Didn't they try that in the first episode and it didn't fit?
