Stereo Receiver (1 Viewer)

Bought a house(new 7 years ago), has 5 built in speakers in the ceiling. I assume 2 front-1 center-2 rear. Will add a cd/dvd player for music & a stand alone bass(sub woofer). Need stereo receiver. Like my music loud, you can still hear someone speak 2 feet away, kinda. Don't need a lot of bells & whistles. Anything simple out there for under say $300? It's not so much the money it's that I will be just using it for music & movies. No computer stuff, etc. On/off button & remote is enough. Sorry if I haven't provided enough info.

Thank you!

Okay, around $500.
i'd still go used, especially if you don't need the bells and whistles.. new receivers are all about the new tech- where older models are more about the music quality
Really depends on the mfg. Rotel, who used to be very very good and no longer as good, and you won't get quality audio for under 500. If you check Audiogon I think you may be a bit surprised.

IMO, look at Denon, Yamaha, and Pioneer. I would stay away from Onkyo, I didn't like the sound of it with my Rotel amp and speakers.

One further comment. Go and listen to whatever you are thinking about, with music you like as well as movies. Everyone's ears hear differently. Don't let anyone tell you different. Also, you're not looking for a Stereo receiver, you are looking for a Home Theater/Surround Receiver it might be helpful to change the post title.

I went through this about two years ago. Tried them all and found Yamaha to be an amazing sounding receiver for a fairly good price.

One thing of note, check the speaker connectors on the back. Not something most people think about until they are hooking up their speakers.

Bought the Denon S510BT for surround music system. Just fantastic. Also have a $1000.00 Yamaha receiver-8 yrs old that shuts down when to too loud. Ordering another Denon S510BT & putting the Yamaha out to pasture.

Yamaha was probably one of the best at the time, but from the music I heard powered by the Denon is superior.

Make sense?

Thanks Again.
