I never bought the "third down back" cliche about Slaton because when I watched him run during the preseason, I saw a running back that reminded me a lot of Domanick Davis. People who dismissed him with this "third down back" nonsense paid too much attention to the blurbs from fantasy websites and not enough from actual game film. I knew it would only be a matter of weeks before Slaton became the unquestioned starter because it was apparent early on that he's the most talented back on the Texans roster. He may be slightly undersized, but he runs hard and keeps his legs moving, just like DD did. Unlike DD, Slaton has the speed to get to the corner and potentially bust a long TD run. As with all rookie running backs, blitz pick up was the primary concern, but Slaton didn't make any costly mistakes early to lose his coach's confidence.
