Steve Slaton (1 Viewer)

If Houston started Slaton from the start of the season like Forte and CJ3, would he be considered the best rookie RB?? Just not sure why all the hype about Chris Johnson? Slaton has the same numbers and wasnt even fully used the first few games of the season. Both are speed backs and Slaton looks tough. Good speed, breaks tackles and catches great out of the backfield. Is it time Slaton starts getting some serious attention and if so what does his dynasty value look like??

I think the Slaton/Forte/CJ debate will be a good one this offseason. Frankly, I don't have an answer for you right now. They've all shown flashes, but I don't know that I'd want to build a dynasty team around any of them.

Slaton has played very well though. He has shown a real knack for making big plays. Assuming Houston doesn't bring in a complementary back, I think he could be in line for another strong season in 2009.

I love both players, but it think the difference between the two, besides .2 seconds in the forty, is CJ situation is more likely to be the same for the near future, ie. he will be the primary back while losing some carries to White. I highly doubt the Texans will want rely solely on Slaton next season and beyond, and they may bring in a player who is good enough to take significant carries from Slaton, and potentially goal line carries. I think both are extremely talented, but i do give an edge to CJ in that department as well.

As far as building a dynasty franchise around either(or Forte) i would have absolutely no problwm with it. I cant think of any RB's other than AD and MJD that i would say is clearly a better guy to do build a dynasty team around. I could certainly see arguments for players like SJax, Gore, Turner etc, but they all have ? as well.

Look for Slaton to be a much better deal next year than Forte or Chris Johnson. Houston will either sign someone or draft someone that many people will think is a signal they want to take carries away from Slaton. It will have a lot more to do with a lack of depth on the roster (Ahman Green is a very likely cut, as is Chris Brown) than a RBBC situation. Heck right now, Houston is playing with Slaton and 2 guys they got off waivers (Sapp and Moats.)

Slaton still has issues, but is quickly overcoming many of them. One of the biggest knocks was his ability in short yardage situations, but I have to admit he looked amazing against Tennessee in those situations this past weekend. Lots of second effort and maybe not "moving the pile" but definitely fighting for those extra yards. I still question how good he is in blitz pickup, but at least for now the kid looks like he has a great career ahead of him.
