Steve Smith Panthers (1 Viewer)

Fanball:

Steve Smith (ankle) practiced in full on Wednesday and expects to play in Week 7, according to the Gaston Gazette.

Another site has him as a WR2 against 49'rs for week 7 if he plays. Can anyone shed some light on this guy going forward I just can believe he will be anything more than a WR3 especially with the QB situation and how terrible the Panthers are. He's only scored 2 TD's and averaged about 3 catches a game for the time he was playing

He's been sitting on our WW for 2 weeks and I'm thinking there are a lot of WR2's I'd rather keep over Smith. Just can't believe he has fallen so far from the once elite status.

What would the Sharks consider as better WR2's over Smith. I'd consider Mike Wallace or even Britt better options

Ooops, sorry just saw the Smith topic below.

I have him in two leagues and will play him in both if he suits up... though more because of necessity than comfort. Still, with Moore at QB Smith's prospects are much brighter.

If he plays, I'll be starting him. My WR core is wretched. Smith, Knox, Evans, Murphy in a start 3, 16 team league.

I have Calvin on a bye, so he's in. Have a claim in for BMW and Crayton though....I may consider either one over Smitty.

If Moore can ever be effective (like he was at the end of last year) Steve Smith has top12 potential.

Looking at it postively he did have two quality starts to begin the season and than 1 bad game and 1 game where he was injured.

No way I'd start him this week unless I was otherwise looking at guys like Hester/Henderson/Naanee/Tate/Sims-Walker. It's been 3 weeks, but I can't see any way he's able to function near full speed. I'll give it at least a week to see how he looks.

Smith does have WR2 upside if the Panthers can turn it around with Moore at QB, but I think he'll need 1-2 weeks to get healthy.

If he plays you gotta start him unless you have some serious WR depth. Both Smith's TDs this year as come from Moore.

If he goes, I'll start him over Santonio Holmes. Just for reference. I know you don't really care about my team. Why are you still reading this?

Right now he's on my bench in favor of Ochocinco, Eddie Royal, and Lance Moore. I think I'm a little concerned by the weather report (showers).

I either play him or pick someone up because of byes and drop someone I'd like to keep. My guess

is others are in a similar situation.

Smith is a #3-4 at best right now, his best days are in the rear view mirror.

 Whys that? Smith's biggest issue this season has been Jimmy Claussen and injury. With Moore back at QB and Smith healthy, I expect Smith to produce as he always does. Moore had two crappy games to start the season, yet Smith scored 18.5 and 16.6 points (PPR).

Agreed. Steve Smith is still a premiere WR. The Carolina offense has struggled. Coming off the bye, with Moore starting again, Smith will be fine. Smith has proven he will produce with Moore. Moore feeds him. Smith is too good to languish. His pride won't let him not produce. I am expecting him to put up a much much improved second half of the season to pave the way for him having a higher stock next year. Steve Smith at 31 is in such great physical condition, that I would say he is in better shape than 75% of WR's who are under the age of 27. No hesitation whatsoever in putting Smith back in the line-up if he is starting with Moore at QB. :lmao:

Benching him in favor of Ward and Harvin. I won't start him again this season unless I have to for some reason. I have no faith in the Carolina offense right now. They're a fantasy football black hole.

AJ on a bye here so I claimed BMW yesterday then dropped him for Panther SS when it was reported earlier today that he would be in the lineup this weekend.

I think you guys are crazy to expect WR2 numbers in his first game back. We don't even know how healthy is yet. I think he may be decoy & get 2-3 token catches for 30 yards or so. I'm waiting until I see the following:

A) He's fully healthy

B) Moore looks any better than Clausen did

I'm starting Crayton over him.

Smith (ankle) practiced fully again Thursday, Steve Reed of the Gaston Gazette reports.

Recommendation: It looks like Smith has a good shot to play this weekend, barring a setback, and working in his favor is that he's had better success working with restored starting QB Matt Moore (Smith has scored in both of the games the duo have played in together this season) than he did in his limited work with rookie Jimmy Clausen.
