Steve Smith ranking seems too high this week (1 Viewer)

He is ranked higher than a lot of other great players. I know he's good but with both injuries and the suffocating coverage of Hall it seems that he might not have that great of a game. Convince me otherwise, but this just seems a bit off.

ETA forgot that Claussen is also starting. I like Claussen, but The bengals pass rush should eat him alive and have him running for his life.

I have my concerns as well. FWIW, Just benched Smith in one league for Collie and thinking of benching him for Clayton in another. I would imagine the Panthers will play it conservative and run more, and then try to keep Clausen on a quick timer with short drops and quick patterns. Maybe it's just being too cautious, but I want to see what Clausen does in real game action for a week before I rely on their passing game.

Leon Hall alone is usually enough to shut down a team's #1 WR, see Moss week 1 & Boldin week 2, and any 2009 game. Add a rookie QB making his first career start & a tough run defense, and this has 3 catches for 27 yards written all over it.

I'm sitting him for Knox as of now, also considering D Thomas. I love Steve Smith in almost any matchup, but he's set up to fail this week.

would you start Malcom Floyd over him?

ESPN analysis:

Does the switch from Matt Moore to Jimmy Clausen dramatically alter Smith's fantasy outlook? It shouldn't. Seriously, who else can Clausen trust? The Bengals have those star corners, yes, but that didn't stop Randy Moss. Or Wes Welker. Or Derrick Mason.

Smith will probably get a lot of targets like he usually does. It's wet weather in Charlotte today. I just talked to my mom who is at the game, and she said it was pouring rain, but now it's drizzlin', but the rain will pick up again. Icky day.

Wet footing favors WR. They know where they're going and DBs don't.

I know, but it doesn't do much for my mother's hair.

Understand the logic but I think you need to understand the player better. Smith has not given us a reason to sit him yet. I am thinking you must be stacked at WR to sit him.

I see what you are seeing, but has Claussen given you what you need to see as a rookie making his first start against an aggressive Marv Lewis coached defense in order to feel that Steve Smith can be a decent start?

My thought process is that Smith had 2 games to produce with the worst QB throwing the ball in the 1st 2 weeks. I think the targets stay the same combined with the fact that Cinci will score on this squad. Long as the rain is not torrential Smith gets his targets and still has the skillset to produce.5 Catches, 76 yards 1 TD.

Also debating between Smith and Knox. Seems like one of those toss-ups that I'll get wrong no matter who I pick. All the circumstances point to Smith having a lousy day, but he can take a little slant to the house on any play and make it a good day. Blah.

I say 55 yds and a TD. Carolina has no other receivers and if Cincy can get some early scores/turnovers, I believe they will be throwing a lot today

Rookie QB, team in slump, bad weather, no other decent WR to draw coverage. Gonna roll with BMW v. Chargers.

You fail. It was 3 and 22 not 27
