Steve Smith With Vinny Testaverde At QB? (1 Viewer)

The thing is MOP, Carr couldn't get the ball to Smith downfield. So that was gone and Smith's fantasy value was taking a huge hit because of it. Also, Vinny got the ball to Smith early and often. He had four receptions in the first quarter alone. It took Carr an entire game to get the ball to Smith that many times the week before - and that was in a MUCH better matchup.
Carr has the arm strength to get the ball downfield, but he lacks the confidence when he sees defenses on Smith, and he waits too long to throw the ball. He can improve on this I'm sure, but I liked the way Vinny managed the game, and you could also see a different demeanor in the team with him in. The team seemed more confident and fired up. Vinny has them believing again, and that's what you want.

Before everyone gets too crazy in here...too late I know...Smith had a huge catch on a busted coverage play...I'm not sure I am ready to say he is a top tier WR with Vinny chucking the ball. The AZ DB just let him go and gave up on the play, seriously.
You say that like it's never going to happen again this year. There are busted coverages in just about every game. The issue is whether your QB and WR can take advantage of it.

What you get with Vinny is savvy. Pure and simple. Smith feeds, and needs, a QB that can buy time, recognize coverage, and see tendencies as a game develops. Something tells me after 20 years in the league and being able to pick up a playbook and WIN a game vs. a prepared (and somewhat tenacious) ARI defense that we're looking at the new QB in CAR barring injury.

Carr just doesn't have the stuff. He's a career backup if he can get the ball out if his hands quicker and trust his natural instincts.

Vinny is the man

makes all us old guys feel good

i don't care who is the QB as long as panthers win

i believe if carr is healthy after bye he starts....

So, even with Carr starting next week....Anyone think the bye could be benefic to adjust the QB chemistry with Smith ?

I'm still not sure Carr is starting yet. Regardless, if Carr gets in I'm thinking his leash is shorter than his QB IQ.

Has it been announced Carr is starting? I'd be shocked if Fox started that turd. With 5 days of practice Vinny looked 10x the QB Carr looked with an entire offseason of preparation. Given the bye week, I'd imagine Vinny is a go.

The Sporting News team report last week suggested Carr would remain the starter. I hope that's wrong. I can't see how anyone outside of the Carr family would even remotely believe he's a better option than Vinny. You could certainly make the case that Vinny can't hold up as the starter but to me that's a weak point. Given how pathetic Carr was, a smart head coach would take the clearly superior option for as long as he could and worry about the situation later should Vinny not hold up. The comments from Steve Smith two weeks ago left little question he prefers Vinny as the QB, that's for sure.
