I have been hearing that for days now but to finally hear the real news is huge.John Clayton actually predicted this a few days ago. He said that Spags wouldn't go because he wouldn't get a chance to pick most of his coaching staff since the Skins already did. Clayton keeps predicting that Fassel will end up in Wash.
You guys have the making of a great team there. I tip my hat to the Giants (this coming from a Dallas fan). There's only one thing that gives me as much pleasure as watching Dallas win and that's watching the Patriots lose. Thank you New York Giants, you have forever earned my respect.![]()

He seemed overwhelmed by the cheers he was getting, I think its a great move! Coughlin has climbed the moutain, I hope he gets a VERY healthy 4 year deal(I bet he could be looking at 30 mil total) and hopefully the chair stays warm for Spags to step in and head it up for a decade thereafter! Eli, Reese, Bradshaw, Osi, Tuck, some very nice building blocks in place to maybe make a run here!
Until next season right?Thank you New York Giants, you have forever earned my respect.

well, he probably won the SB for them so should count for something.Alot of money for a guy that only had 9 games under 20 points.
Is that counting the 4 playoff games, 2 of which were against the top 2 scoring teams?Alot of money for a guy that only had 9 games under 20 points.
Thats what happens when you win it all. People get rewardedAlot of money for a guy that only had 9 games under 20 points.
Listening on wfan.comthanks koya didnt know when he was coming on.For those in NY, Coughlin just started on WFAN
Then they should make Tyree the highest paid receiver in the league.well, he probably won the SB for them so should count for something.Alot of money for a guy that only had 9 games under 20 points.
Excellent idea. Thanks for the input, Weymouth MAThen they should make Tyree the highest paid receiver in the league.well, he probably won the SB for them so should count for something.Alot of money for a guy that only had 9 games under 20 points.
Hmmm, that's interesting. Of course, 2 Mill a year takes a lot of pressure off and while it is tough to find a HC job, if you get an HC job and fail miserably without having an exceptional background beforehand (i.e. Belichick after Cleveland) it may be impossible to get another chance. To have no choice over your coordinators on a team with no cap room and a meddlesome owner puts a lot of pressure on an already near impossible situation.during the updates on wfan, they were saying that it is believed that he and the redskins mutually agreed he wasn't ready yet to be a head coach.
According to the local DC reporter who's been more in touch with the coaching interviews than anyone else, that's not exactly true.during the updates on wfan, they were saying that it is believed that he and the redskins mutually agreed he wasn't ready yet to be a head coach.
LinkSteve Spagnuolo's agent, Bob LaMonte, chatted with me about the process briefly. There is an erroneous AP report stating that Spagnuolo told the Redskins he was not ready to be a head coach. League sources say that idea is ludicrous and that the Redskins were very much interested in him after 28 hours of meetings and he was very confident in his ability to be a head coach.........
............As previously reported, the Redskins did not offer Spagnuolo the job and he departed home to New Jersey early this morning, around 1 am. League sources said after discussing his options with his wife Spagnuolo was to call owner Daniel Snyder today with his intensions, and at that time he opted to stay in New York and take a new deal from the Giants.
you're right. The situations are nearly identical. Then they should make Tyree the highest paid receiver in the league.well, he probably won the SB for them so should count for something.Alot of money for a guy that only had 9 games under 20 points.
Sorry, I forgot I was only supposed to have an opinion on my local NFL team. Stay classy, NY.Excellent idea. Ok, lets think rationally. If Jason Garrett got 3 million to be kept off the market and in waiting as an OC for a team that ran a crap game plan in the playoffs, you don't think a guy who put together three schemes that the ENTIRE COUNTRY picked against doesn't deserve 2 million to keep him off the coaching market? The money is monopoly money, I could rationally argue 100,000 is too much to head coach in this league, but thats neither here nor there. Fact is, there is no salary cap on coaching salary, and this defense seems perfectly matched with personel for what Spags likes to do(blitz, blitz and blitz again). Do you really think this is a bad deal, considering Coughlins age?Sorry, I forgot I was only supposed to have an opinion on my local NFL team. Stay classy, NY.Excellent idea. I'm just saying look at the market. Jones sort of blew it up with Garrett, a first year OC making 3 million a year and while they had a nice season, I watched that playoff game with 2 cowboy fans who couldn't believe the departure in game plan for the postseason. Why shift and make Barber a feature back after having not been one all season? He did an awful job. At least Spags was instrumental in getting the Giants to where they are, because you could almost pretend that was a halfway decent secondary they had after being garbage all year.By the way, his name is Steve Spagnuolo.
I guess it's just a changing of the times with teams paying O/D Coordinators a ton of cash. It just seems like alot of money for a first year D Coordinator. Yes, I understand he is good and his team was loaded with talent that fit nicely in his schemes. I'm just shocked at the price. But when you put it in perspective with Coughlin's age, he possibly is being groomed to be the new Giants coach in 3-4 years? Oh, and thank you for the rational thinking, it's refreshing.
And I am not "another sensitive Pats fan".
I didn't want to mention Jerry, he is a few steps away from sharing a room with Al Davis. These new, young guys are put on such a pedestal. For instance, look at Josh Mcdaniels. He was groomed as Tom Brady's QB coach, Mangini leaves and he gets a promotion to be the O Coordinator. Pats have a great season, Brady his best, and Josh is now listed as being one of the leaders to land the Redskins deal. Some of these coordinators are being touted as the next best coaches in the league and the savior of dismal teams. Giants D was a little shaky at times during the year, mostly lacking consistency due to injuries. But they also had something special this year. You tend to realize it after the fact, they wanted to win more than the Patriots did. Oh yeah, and their game plan as well as their execution was phenomenal in that game.I'm just saying look at the market. I think given his current trajectory, he would absolutely be considered the in house candidate to take Coughlin's seat. He's not a young man, I think he'll sign a 4 year deal and be out after that. He was hired after Reese came on board, so I figure there must be some connection in driving that hire, and the players have mentioned him as definite HC material. As for Assistants, its always a crap shoot. How hot were Wannstedt and Norv in the Dallas era? It basically took until this season for one of them to be vindicated. But then you have the factories that the Walsh teams were for coaches, so you just can't tell. Show me a good coach and I'll show you some good talent, so thats always the key to looking good.I didn't want to mention Jerry, he is a few steps away from sharing a room with Al Davis. Do you think he was paid more to not leave or paid more to invest money and time in him for the future of the Giants? As in after Coughlin retires.
Yeh but he is also the only Def Coordinator to beat the Pats, hold them to 14 pts and win a Superbowl this year.Alot of money for a guy that only had 9 games under 20 points.
Leading the league in sacks - dealing with 1 rookie and a patchwork secondary. Holding the number one offense to 14 points in the Superbowl; the number 2 offense to 17 points and the number 3 offense to 20 points? All in the playoffs - that is stellar.Alot of money for a guy that only had 9 games under 20 points.
