 Teams don't spend 1st round picks on WRs that they expect to be "slot WRs". They had very high hopes for Gonzalez, just like Minnesota had high hopes for Sidney Rice and Carolina had high hopes for Dwayne Jarrett (the next 2 WRs selected). Guess what, 2 out of 3 turned out to be busts. It happens.

Oh, and don't be surprised if 2 of the 4 guys you mentioned turn out to be busts, too. It happens.
As a Colts fan I can tell you that the Colts had slot plans for Gonzalez from the beginning. Also, it's not that Gonzalez is a bust, it's just that he can't stay healthy so far in his career.
Sort of like Ki-Jana Carter at Cincy?
I don't know, what do you think?

Colts don't need a WR next year. They need to draft some run stuffers. They have enough talent at WR, 2 great TE's.... their offense is in check, oustide of an unhealthy running back. They need a defense that can rush the passer and stop the run.... for more than just one game.
I am in no way going to imply that the Colts have after many years totally fixed their runstopping game, but it isn't fair to say it has only been one week either. Over the last month Indy has totally stifled Chris Johnson, McFadden, and MJD....I think they have figured something out heading into the playoffs.

Let's just say that every time someone called Carter a bust and I point out that he blew his knee out on his second carry of his career, I get a laugh and a line like "A bust is a bust". Gonzalez is a bust so far. Sorry.

So, they've switched your way of thinking?

A little bit. Their point is that ultimately someone who under performs his expectations by a "decent" amount is a bust. The issue is that bust has a negative connotation to it regarding the player's talent. But a player like Carter, or Gonzalez, can under perform due to injury. But even if it wasn't their talent or desire that failed them, or a bad scouting job, they are still, technically, a bust.

I have a feeling the book isn't written on Anthony Gonzalez yet.

No, that's true. And really Carter did come back and do OK as a 3rd RB for several years. Just saying that injury does not mean a player wasn't a bust. Just means it's a different reason than Leaf or Russell.
