Storage Wars on A&E TV (2 Viewers)

Dave Hester vs. Trey Songz: Who owns "YUUP!"?

Trey Songz Sued Over “YUUP” Catchphrase

by Morris Moore November 15th, 2011 @ 11:33am

(AllHipHop News)R&B singer Trey Songz is going after a reality show star he has accused of stealing his signature “YUUP” catchphrase.

Trey’s lawyer sent a cease and desist letter to Dave “The Mogul” Hester of “Storage Wars,” claiming that his usage of the phrase during the show’s auction segments.

As a result, Hester filed a lawsuit against Trey Songz in Manhattan Federal Court, claiming there’s a distinct difference in their usage of the term “YUUP.”

According to The New York Post, Hester’s lawsuit claims Trey Songz’ catchphrase resembles an “animal-like or non-human squeal which begins with a distinct ‘yeeee’ sound before finishing with a squeal-like ‘uuuup’ sound.”

Dave Hester says his auction phrase is meant to convey the meaning of ‘yes.’”
Jesus christ, what a bunch of ####### d-bags. What's funny is, when I saw Hester marketing his new "Yuuup" hats and stuff, I thought, why did he make it "yUUUp"? It was, "yEEEEEEEp". That's the way it sounds anyway. And I think I saw it as such too, no? Anyway, I'll bet he started the idea of marketing his catchphrase with the spelling "YEEEEEP", but it was taken somehow, and so he changed it.As the auctioneer said himself on the after show interview thing -- he's never met a bigger ####### than Hester. Right to his face he said it. That says a lot.

Barry really sucks at this.
He's my favorite, tho. He's really the only one that I could see sitting down and grabbing a beer with. The others are all either morons or jerks (Hi Dave).
Yeah, if you don't like Barry, you don't like beer, the guy is classic. I get the feeling Barry's got plenty of dough and was just an old dude poking around for a hobby. He's been around the block and then some. Definitely shticking it up for the cameras. I want Barry to end up bagging Brandi, then Jarrett go to prison. THAT is how the season should end, our ratings would go through the roof. :hifive:
Love this show. I get the same vibe from Barry, but then I was watching the repeats and it shows him spending tons of time trying to sell a box of used power tools. He ended up selling it to Brandy and her hubby for the money in his pocket (stripper singles per Barry). Also remember another show where he spent tons of time trying to sell some junk. Maybe he was bored and had nothing to do or was just drumming up time for the show, but it didn't have the plenty of dough feel.
Guy has a lot of fancy cars, so one would have to think he's got some cash. And I gotta suspect their episode paychecks are bigger than what they end up spending on lockers (at least in Barry's case.) I suspect the trying to sell stuff is engineered by the producers.
He rents most of those cars I bet, but even still, pretty sure he's got dough. The guy's all shtick, it's great. And kentric, the parts where he goes and tries to sell the junk and stuff, that's all for entertainment, it has nothing to do with him really needing the dough.I would bet that Barry was an aspiring actor...maybe with a trust fund that allowed. Guy knows exactly what he's doing on this show/production. Still, he's entertaining.

What was the legal issue with the pinball machine?
:shrug:Wasn't mentioned on the show. Could have been some issue with a divorce, maybe? Could the quads have had clear title owners but maybe someone put in a claim on other property in the unit?

No rental

So they ARE his cars, interesting. What about that episode with his mom where they're in yet another killer ride, and it ends up being a rental? That's where I got the idea. Anyway, I couldn't figure out where that kind of money is coming from -- owning cars like that -- but I guess he made it in "produce", or so it says. Good for him. Regardless, he clearly knows how to sell this thing and is milking it all the way...as he should.

I get the impression that Barry is starting to sell some of the things on this show now too, judging from some of the comments he has made about having "his guys" come to empty lockers out etc. I don't know if he does it by consigning the items or has partnered up with someone who has a location already, but if he is going to do this, he would be foolish to not at least turn over the things that are not interesting but have value to him.

Given all the contacts the guy has, it makes sense he would know someone that runs a flea market table (like Darryl) or sells stuff on ebay that would work with on the stuff he doesn't want.

it is just recently that he has started selling the "junk" in his units though. In past episodes he was just throwing crap out of the unit as he dug for that one collectable item. I want to see the inside of his house. I imagine it is full of all the weird stuff he has found, like a very eccentric hoarder.

Wasn't there an episode in the first season where Barry gave Dave Hester a bunch of stuff to sell for him in his shop? I think those two are closer than they let on. I remember one episode where Barry gave Dave a bunch of fur coats outright.

This is all fake, right?
yes it is scripted. Not to the point where they are given lines to read, but they are told when to show up, and that many people believe the show "seeds" some of the units so that cool things are found.

I am guessing it's completely fake. As in:1. Units are seeded.2. They are bidding with the show's money.3. They are told who should win which unit.4. Other auction attendees are extras who are told not to bid. I haven't watched every episode but I never see anyone else bidding.

If they are, then why would they have the pinball machine that couldn't be auctioned in the locker?

to give it an air of authenticity. That unit specifically was blatantly seeded and was almost certainly designed for Brandie to win IMO. Think of how rare it is for Brandie to wear pants. Perfect timing with the tight jeans so that they can get the shots of her trying to start the ATV's to create the scripted drama of whether they would start or not.

If they want to give it an "air of authenticity" then they would list realistic prices on the stuff they buy instead of the overly inflated ones.

hey what ever works for you. if you believe the show is 100% legit, enjoy it then. Many others do not believe that.Just google "Storage Wars Fake" to see the general opinion out there.

Lots of websites out there saying the moon landing was a hoax too.

DRAMA

Any screen caps of this anywhere?

Interesting you mention aspiring actor. My wife thought she recognized him from some series, but I couldn't find anything which suggested that was the case.Found this on Wikipedia: Barry Weiss, "The Collector". The oldest of the bunch, Barry owned a produce company until he retired and is only looking for a few collector's items to keep.[19] He sells or donates everything else. Barry is the best financed of the group and is the only one not in it for financial profit. If he finds any fur articles in a unit he has purchased, he will give them away rather than sell them.On the production/staging: While it has been commented that some of the units have been stocked by producers to improve things,[4] an A&E publicist said, "There is no staging involved. The items uncovered in the storage units are the actual items featured on the show."[9]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Storage_Wars

Huge find auctioned by the Dotsons, but no cameras were rolling http://www.nypost.com/p/news/national/hiver_me_timbers_H9a1FmZuuf6CWnyCCAcuqO
Did you know that Jerry Sandusky wrote a book called "Touched"?And shouldn't it be pretty easy to prove this show is fake? All storage auctions in California must be listed in the newspaper a certain amount of time ahead of time. It shouldn't be all that hard to go back after a show has aired and try to figure out if the unit numbers in the auctions were listed in the newspaper altogether at some point in the recent past.

That said, I think Darryl sneaks some stuff into the crappy lockers he buys just so he looks good. It's almost always the same thing "Well, this locker is a bunch of nothing. May as well look in this box (which is usually outside of the locker, indicating that he's gone through it.) Hey! What a find!"

I think he also said he had to drop off his mom back home in Beverly Hills. Here's an interview with Barry: http://www.aoltv.com/2011/08/03/storage-wars-barry-weiss-interview/

One of the biggest questions fans have about you, Barry, is what you do for a living. The rumor is that you are or were a Hollywood producer ... true?

(Laughing) No, no, I'm not. Actually, I've been an antique collector my entire life, and I was in the produce business for 20‑25 years, and I retired about four years ago. I just was traveling around the world and enjoying life, really. The way this opportunity came along was a close friend of mine, Thom Beers, who is the creator of the show, was over one night. I don't know, we were having a few drinks. He said he was working on something with these storage lockers, and would I like to be a part of it? And basically that's sort of how things unfolded.

What did you do in the produce business?

Wholesale fruits and vegetables. I owned a produce company, and we exported and imported, my brother and myself. I did that for years.

Just this week there were bids from random attendees. When a bid is made without a name next to the number at the bottom of the screen, then it's from people outside of the main cast.Brandi's boobs are spectacular.

That's just to give it an "air of authenticity".

A better fake vs. real argument would be about Brandi's boobs. My wife was convinced that she's had them done recently after watching the gray tank top episode this week. I disagreed. :coffee:

Brandi will get naked eventually right? Once the show dies down and they are looking for another 15 mins of fame. Playboy does A&E or something like that.

here are a couple from the episode but none of the butt shots. http://www.brandipassante.net/?p=450

I agree with your wife.

Just watched the ATV episode last night. ### Brandi

Did I catch a glimpse of a tramp stamp when she gets on the first ATV still in the unit or were those wires hanging down from her mic? Either way, she looked amazing.

Also caught the last few minutes of the one where she is in the kayak. You could tell the producers just wanted to get her into a tight wetsuit and get it wet. Well played sirs, well played.

:lmao: :lmao: GD GB Barry :lmao: :lmao:
Anyone catch the bit during the credits the other week?Brandi and Barry share a little laugh, and Jarrod walks over to see what's up. Barry's like, "I can share it with you, you're a pretty..." Jarrod: "Why, thank you." Barry: "I didn't finish what I was saying."Jarrod: "You called me pretty."Barry: "Um, yeah, right. What I was saying, was, 'you're a pretty easy-going guy, you're not uptight.'"Jarrod: "Oh, OK."Barry: "Well, your wife just asked me if I ever smoked cigars."Jarrod: "Uh huh..."Barry: "And I said I did. But I prefer to dip them in Brandy first." ;) (nudge-nudge with his elbow)Jarrod:  (walks away)

In the episode where they find the indian tattoo kit Jarrod makes a smart ### comment about people who have a butterfly tattoo on their lower back and Brandi looks away and says something along the lines of "Man I hate that thing now." So I am guessing she has a tramp stamp.

I don't think the units are staged or faked. They just don't show the units where some unknown bidders win or if the storage units are a bust. Darrell said in an interview that for every good locker they show, they don't the other 30 units that are basically worthless that he wins. I am sure alot of the dialog might be scripted, but, I just don't believe the storage units are staged or planted with items. I do think they are misleading us by claiming the value of each item. They are given us prices that are top retail value of the items which more than likely are never achieved when the item is sold.

Awesome. That Barry kills me sometime. I love his perversity.

Only part of it I think is fake is that the rare items could be planted.

Other people do bid, they just edit them out. Watch the prices move and any time it has a value without a person's name next to it, that means a nobody was the bidder. They only show the units that the show stars win.

The one thing I always wonder is that this show seems to have no guns in it at all and the other 2 storage shows seem to have lockers full of weapons on all the time. I wonder if that is a conscious decision to not show the guns on this one or to highlight the guns on the other shows?

Has anyone done this yet? I have thought about going to a local storage auction, only to say that it was something I did, I would never expect to find anything or make any money off of it. Problem is I don't want to go to a weekend auction and I would feel guilty taking off work to go do this during the week.

It has guns, not that many though.
