Strahan wants trade (1 Viewer)

Strahan traded inside the division? Seems unlikely.SF needs him and could certainly afford to pay him.
I agree. I googled it and geesh apparently every team board has someone wanting him for their team. Most I think were Skins and Bills but I didn't dig that deep

Does anybody find it odd that Tiki Barber, the leader on offense, retires with plenty of gas left in the tank and now Michael Strahan, the leader on defense, is looking to get out?

The team was in such turmoil last year with guys like Tiki and Shockey taking shots at Coughlin through the media. Strahan and Burress bickering, which lead to Strahan going after that reporter (with his mouth full  ).

They have a new GM, but I firmly believe that Couglin's ridiculously strict/hard program is the reason for the dissension among the ranks. I don't think the players respect him. He's gotta go.

I agree that this might only be brought up because Coughlin is still around but I had heard this on ESPN a week or so ago and the reporter who was commenting on it (sorry, can't remember who it was) mentioned that he had seen Strahan the night before and spoke to him for awhile and he made no mention of wanting to be traded so take that for what its worth. He didn't think there was much to the story.

I find it hard to believe that the Giants would let the face of their defense and one of their leaders go to a division rival when he still has some gas in the tank. Sure he has broken down recently and has a inflated contract but that to me would be a PR nightmare. Losing Tiki and Strahan in the same offseason would be a lot for Giants fans to swallow.

Giant fan here. If I could get a lot in return I would send Strahan packing. he and Tiki were the worst leaders you could ever want. Going after the coach and a good one at that because they didn't want to work hard is lame and sets the wrong example. Both guys are not into working hard anymore and they caused the issue more than anyone else.I say get rid of them, and stock up on talent as Strahan will not play that much longer anyway. Get in guys that want to bust their rear for the team.I know great DE's don't grow on trees, but at his age, if you could get a lot than do it. What is a lot, draft picks and a starting LT, CB or outside LB. People just don't understand that getting rid of salaries means you can go spend some on someone else.

I don't know how many Giants fans would be upset to see Strahan go. I live in the area, and Strahan is noit a big fan favorite, mostly due to his recent actions. Crying about COughlin's practices/requirements, then trying to bully a reporter. And he was hurt.

Tiki Barber is a fake

Michael Strahan is a fake

Jeremey Shockey is a jerk

Plaxico Burress is a jerk

The head coach is out of touch, but these four "leaders" are/were anything but leaders. They are THE cause of problems on this team.

No head coach could/would get along with them if Jim Fassell was run out as too soft and Coughlin is considered too hard.

The Giants need new players AND a new coach.

So is the problem the management of the personnel, the coach, or the players?

It is probably not as simple as that, but where does the lion-share of blame for this fallout belong?

I think the bulk of the blame goes on the "leaders" of the team. Mike Lupica was making a great point about Barber several months ago. He has the movie star looks and the pearly white smile, so it seems like he could do no wrong. But he is anything but a leader. A crybaby who could not keep his feelings inside the clubhouse. That is not a leader. Shockey is an embarrassment to football on the field. Clapping his hands, waving his arms, and then throwing a tantrum if Manning doesn't throw it to him. And when Manning does he drops it. Plaxico never was a leader on that team. Strahan complained from day one about Coughlins methods. Great leadership there.I really feel bad for COughlin here. Say what you want about the play calling, as that is a legitimate gripe. But his workouts? This is football!!!

I used to live in NJ and still have many friends there and don't disagree with ya.He used to be HUGE.It would be interesting to see if the fans are sorry to see him go or not.The big thing here IMO is the Giants can't win without him. They're record when he's been hurt during his career is so awful it's  .

On behalf of Redskins Nation, I say "No f'ing thank you!"
When he's playing well he cuts the field in half and that's just an amazing impact on the game. So long as he's still got that ability, you Skins fans would quickly love how he plays on the field if this happenned.

Believe me I have a lot of respect for his talents having been able to see him twice each season against the Redskins, but I've had my fill of the team signing mid-30's "stars". We already had one aging RDE, overpaid malcontent in Bruce Smith. We don't need to repeat that.

See post #7. You can't find a bigger Giant fan and I would send Strahan packing as long as I can get good value.

I'd trade any player as long as I can get good value.Seems like the lowest his market value has ever been to me. He's 36yo coming off an injury riddled season(has missed 15 games the past three seasons) and is overpayed. Now, after being mentioned for several years as a leader in the locker-room his remarks last season are seen as derisive to players that were actually on the field while he was sitting out.Really depend on what you consider "good value" I guess. They'd be lucky to get much imo.

 for the "out of left field" speculation from the Washington Post.

The New York Post, who has far more knowledge of the situation, called the meeting routine, as Strahan meets with the Giants GM every year at this time. This meeting was merely getting a lot of publicity because it's Reese (the new GM) instead of a yearly meeting with Accorsi.

The Washington post seemed to make a completely unfounded assumption that Strahan was trying to get traded; no source, no quote, no nothing.

Strahan just got a $500,000 bonus, and given his salary and recent injury history, he's not likely going anywhere.

Supposedly he wanted more $ but the Giants didn't want to give him any more. He makes a ton but just(as ya know) took a big hit in his divorce settlement. There's an awful lot floating around for there to be nothing to this.

I hear Toomer was livid that reporters wouldn't leave him and his soon to be ex-wife alone as they try to reach a divorce settlement. Supposedly he spouted off about privacy and this having nothing to do with football etc.

Rhodes interviewed yesterday and then stayed the night in a hotel to talk contract today.

Once all that dies down, I expect we'll find out more about this Strahan stuff.

I would love for the Giants to get some good value for Strahan while they still can. With Umenyiora, Kiwanuka and Tuck, the Giants have some very good dpeth at DE. The problem was that Kiwanuka was the only healthy one for the entire season last year (Tuck was out the entire year, Umenyiora missed 5 games and Strahan missed the 2nd half of the season). This year's draft is deep at DE, so they can add some depth in the draft and can find a solid replacement in the starting lineup between Tuck and Kiwanuka.

Sure, he may want more money. But he hasn't made a big stink about it. My point is that the Washington Post entirely fabricated that Strahan was meeting with Reese to ask for a trade. They didn't even pretend to justify it with a quote from an "unnamed source".I could just as easily say that Strahan met with Reece to discuss retirement and have just as much factual basis to back up my story as the Washington Post. If they want to speculate, that's fine, but shouldn't they say they are making it up rather then imply that there is any truth to the crap they write?

 tiki has talked for awhile about retiring and esp. about not wanting to be pushed out the door. and has made it widely known for longer than that that he wants a broadcasting career. no way he was playing for several more years. this is a long-term plan being executed; i don't believe he suddenly decided to cut ties this year because he's had enough of coughlin...might have made it a little easier, though.

S. O'hara, upon resigning with the Giants, stated that Coughlin was one of the reasons he WANTED to stay. He said on any team you will have some people that arent behind the coach, especially if you have a disciplinarian. O'hara then went on to say something about you cant have teams deciding to change coaches just because of a "few whiners" which you find on any team.He basically called out Tiki (and the others) as whiners. And he's 100% right.
