Streaming or currently airing TV shows (AKA Netflix thread) (14 Viewers)

Cashback - Very good. Thought it would be strictly a drama, but the soccer match had me in stitches. It only scratched the surface of Time Stoppage, I am curious what happened with the grey hoodie who was in the same freeze as Ben
for me it was all about the nudity. but really, compared to a lot of high budget films, this kicked butt.

Not surprisingly, "The Switch" was terrible... worse that the typical Romantic Comedy.

BTW, did we cover decent Romantic Comedies in this thread? My Wife doesn't watch too many movies so I have to watch these things on occasion.

Couple of more foreign films worth checking out with good suspense and mystery.

Just another love story

The Hidden Face
The Hidden Face was very good  Another good foreign flick I recently watched was Mancora, also enjoyed Fire with Fire, Welcome to the Rileys and Everything Must Go.

A couple I did not like from this past week Whats Eating Gilbert Grape and Killer Elite

I thought Going The Distance was the best romcom Ive seen in awhile. Probably because I dont typically watch them to a degree,, but I thought it was funny yet had a point.

Watched Headhunters recently based on comments in this thread. Really enjoyed it. Entertaining from start to finish.

The First Grader was ok and a good one to watch with the wife.

My Way is a Japanese/Korean film during WWII. I really liked the first half but then it just kept dragging on and I was ready for it to end.

I enjoyed the documentary Pelotoro, about the MLB process of signing players in the Dominican Republic.

Safety Not Included was just added which I thought was really good.
I think you mean Safety Not Guaranteed. I thought it funny. Worth watching but

the ending was kind of stupid.
In my top 5 movies of 2012 for sure.I watched this last night because of the good reviews in here. You guys let me down. It wasn't funny. The side stories added nothing to the movie because I never felt like I was supposed to care about the 2 supporting characters.

There was no cool payoff with time travel scenes.

Was Kenneth just a liar about his reason to go back?

BOOOOOOO!

Just finished a couple of the British TV shows - awesome stuff. Add votes for:

Luther

Sherlock Holmes (Benedict Cumberpatch)

Just finished Season 1 of Being Human (UK) and am very pleasantly surprised.

North Face (08)

This one is a gem.

German. Subtitles.

Griping. Amazing landscape shots. Touching. Slam-dunk.

From IMDB:

"Based on a true story, North Face is a suspenseful adventure film about a competition to climb the most dangerous rock face in the Alps. Set in 1936, as Nazi propaganda urges the nation's Alpinists to conquer the unclimbed north face of the Swiss massif - the Eiger - two reluctant German climbers begin their daring ascent."

8/10. That may even be selling it short.

Watched Doomsday Book recently, I enjoyed it quite a bit.

Its a korean film about three short stories that are all good in their own right.

The first is romantic comedy about a zombie outbreak in Seoul. The second is about dystopian future where the world is more or less ran by a corporation that monopolized the robotics industry, the main character plays an engineer called out to a Buddhist temple to run diagnostics on a robot exhibiting odd behavior. And the third is a little girl accidentally causing the apocalypse.

Pretty entertaining.

Any word on this Hemlock Grove show they're pimping? House of Cards was so good it makes me want to give any show they make a shot. Available April 19th. Only actor I recognized in the trailer was the chick who played Jean Gray in all the x-men movies.

It looks kinda dumb unfortunately. Like something the CW or Fox would try to make.

Reykjavik to Rotterdam was a pretty good Nordic film. A former smuggler from Iceland does one more run to earn money for his family.

26. Monsieur LazharYear: 2012Director: Philippe FalardeauMonsieur Lazhar presents various lives with seemingly few similarities forced to deal with tragedy in ways that are remarkably and movingly similar. At a French-Canadian school in Montreal, a teacher has just committed suicide in a classroom, traumatizing her highly impressionable and innocent students. Into her place steps Monsieur Lazhar, an Algerian immigrant who is recovering from an unspeakable personal calamity in his own recent past. Such a meeting of two disparate worlds, especially in a classroom setting, has been played out time and time again in film, often in the most clichéd manner. But Monsieur Lazhar is the exception to the rule. The acting is stellar throughout the film, from the one-named Algerian actor Fellag’s subtle and warm portrayal of the title character, to the cast of precocious children who make up his classroom.—Jonah Flicker
Anyone seen this?

No wonder I can never find anything that sounds good.

I'm gonna start a thread on this. I'll watch a couple of these flicks per week and see how they rate with a regular person that loves movies.

Apparently a cartoon is gonna be my first effort, huh?

Not gonna start now, because I'm drunk and angry...even The Usual Suspects would suffer under the yoke of an angry Homer.

The list is a mixed bag. All of them were highly regarded, but there are some weak ones on the list.

Yeah but Rango is not one of them.
I was impressed by the CGI in Rango, but it was ugly to look at

Being Human is a good guilty pleasure. The US version isn't bad, either. :bag:

I am not sure ugly is the correct word but I understand your point of view. I think the CGI was incredibly well done (maybe the best I have seen), the story was creative and the dialogue was witty and engaging. I would say that as an entire production it was beautiful.

I wonder how hard they tried to get Clint to be The Man With No Name.

I know what you mean. People love Rango, so feel free to ignore my minority opinion
