Streaming or currently airing TV shows (AKA Netflix thread) (12 Viewers)

1st Episode in to "Top of the Lake". Hooked. Holly Hunter is a crackup.

And the Matt character is a psycho. But

I don't think he is the one that knocked up Tui

Sure. I cancelled because this site is absolutely :moneybag: Has seemingly everything, even new TV episodes that aired only a day or 2 prior, and its FREE. YWIA.

I will certainly still check out this thread for recommendations though.
You still using this site KP? Still digging it?
Yep. No problems with it whatsoever, you just have to realize there is no new programs you need to d/l to watch on there like you may be prompted, "X" out of the ads that pop up at first, and watch away. This week I watched Wreck It Ralph, The Shining, Taken 2, and Lawless like it was N'flix

New movies like WWZ and This is The End are already on there, but crappy/bootleg quality. I'll wait till around DVD release for those.

Put me on the side of not liking Cabin in the Woods.

Dopie "twist", if you can call it that. Not really a twist when you know something is going down throughout the movie.
The Fall, however, is the ####. Thanks for that recommendation.
Yeah, that was never the twist. CitW doesn't have a twist and it's not really a horror film it's just a unique, original and creative take on the horror genre.
Cabin in the Woods didn't work for me because the scenes with the campers were more silly then scary. Like they were going through the motions and relying on the Whitford/Jenkins angle to carry the movie. Movie was not scary and had no tension. Was a nice swing and a miss though.
Until the ball gets rolling, arent the early scenes with horror movie "potential victims" generally more humorous? I wouldnt necessarily say they were going through the motions, but if you put it that way then its just how your typical horror movie actors are. Was it really supposed to have tension or scares? I thought there were some, but that wasnt what the movie was going for in the first place. As Chaka said, its a unique and creative take on the horror genre.
I don't find American horror scary unless they're based on Asian originals. Actually, I find most foreign horror films much much better than the silly stuff Americans make.

This site is awesome. Thanks for the heads up.

Watched a flick called Daydreamer with Aaron Paul from Breaking Bad and Arielle Kebbel who is a tasty little vixen. Pretty good flick. AP is money.

Finished "Top of the Lake"

Disappointed.

I knew the cop was dirty.

And I don't think Matt was the father. I think the Cop fixed the DNA reports to show Matt as the father. Could have been the cop who was the father.

Tui is not going to take care of the baby. It will fall to Robin and Johnno. Tui will run off to ChristChurch and do porn

As Chaka said, its a unique and creative take on the horror genre. That's the whole point, wrapped pretty succinctly there. Instead of yet another unending stream of pattern victims, with stock deaths and inexplicable actions that lead to them, there's an actual reason for it all. The Whitford/Jenkins angle was the real actual story, not just something to "carry" the movie.

That may have been the point but it didn't work for me. The campers were just filler and a lot of it. Thought they could have gone darker and a bit more serious with the camper scenes and the juxtaposition with the antics/humor of Whitford/Jenkins would have been more interesting.

Saw this a few months back. I liked what I remembered from it, Paul was good (why hasnt he taken more decent/major film roles since his "breakout" in BB?!), but I was pretty hammered by the ending, which I feel I had some complaints about.

And yes, Arielle Kebbel is nice to look at. I also enjoyed her and Emily Browning in The Uninvited which was a pretty good asian horror remake.

Dont know since I got rid of Netflix but I doubt it. It looks like its on that other site Ive recommended in this thread though.

I've been watching the 6-part BBC series on Auschwitz, finished part 3 last night.

I knew the broad strokes but always avoided the really gory details. This series goes through it all in chronological order unflinchingly and is really well done. It's graphic and absolutely gut-wrenching but riveting nonetheless. So many details I was unaware of.

Thanks for posting the link to that site. I stayed home from work yesterday and came here hoping to find something cool buried within all the crap in Netflix. Ended up watching Fast 6, Spring Breakers, and Hangover III, outputting the signal from my laptop to my living room LED. Perfect.

I watched that too. It's well done bud so, so sad. The whole thing is impossible to comprehend.

Weird movie. All I knew going in was the title, all the women in it, and that James Franco was doing something weird. I thought the plot was going to be very different and much more traditional and it certainly was not. Worth a viewing though.

That North Korea documentary by National Geographic is a ####in trip.
Just put that in my queue. If you like that - this one is about the guy that crossed over back in the Korean War, "Crossing the Line."http://movies.netflix.com/WiMovie/Crossing...8403#height2296
I just watched this last night. Its pretty good - though you don't get to see much of what his life is like in North Korea. Its mostly just an interview and he never says anything bad about North Korea, obviously. He says he does not regret defecting at all. I'm skeptical of that.

Not planning to listen to any of the dialogue.

There actually is some dialogue...definitely from Hudgens (sp?)...that you'll want to hear.

We're not talking Netflix.

See within a quote near the top of this page, or Kenny Powers' post #3244.

Oh The Dare TV. Got it. When I read your original post I just saw Netflix and the movies and figured that is what you meant.

Apologies.

Lol at not wanting to watch crap and then choosing those three movies. Different strokes I guess...

Ha that does read terribly in hindsight. Wasn't feeling well and I was looking for mindless entertainment. And I watch Netflix through my Samsung TV and navigating the app is a PITA if you're not exactly sure what you're looking for, which is why I was coming here to find something to search for specifically (the "buried" comment). Love Netflix, wasn't intending to knock the service.

Nothing wrong with that. I took a sick day a few weeks ago and went with a Robert Rodriguez double feature - "From Dusk Till Dawn" and "Machete". It was awesome.

I've been watching the "Classic Album" documentaries lately. I like how the band and/or producer play with the mix and talk about how the pieces came together. Nirvana's Nevermind was the best one so far...some really good story about how the band's history, their song writing process, and the producer really breaks down the songs beautifully.

Good show. The Tom Petty Damn the Torpedos was excellent, as well.

If it hasn't been mentioned, the Inbetweeners (UK) is really funny. Reminded me of American Pie except funny with talented young acting. 2 seasons available and 1 coming soon.

I am sure someone has covered this but In Bruges is fantastic and streaming. 8.5/10Ok someone sway me one way or the other. My favorite type series are The Wire, Breaking Bad, Always Sunny, Life and Times of Tim, Curb, Sopranos, FNL, Deadwood, Arrested Dev, Walking Dead, Sarah Silverman Show, The League, Workaholics, Archer, Louie, Game of Thrones. Sorry for the novel, just wanted to include all I have seen so you don't recommend something I have watched. If that helps..... should I move on to Downtown Abbey? Believe the hype? Sherlock, Damages, or In Betweeners? Other recommendations based on my likes above? ,
from the ones listed I would watch Sherlock. I am starting to watch that now, but many friends of mine have been bugging me for a while to watch that show saying how awesome it is. I think you would enjoy Boardwalk Empire
I gave BE a few episodes and found it ok and then discovered Breaking Bad. I take it I didn't give it long enough? Added In Betweeners, House of Cards, Primers, Damages, and DA. Going to give Boardwalk a full season I think, then Sherlock. Thanks. Any other recommendations appreciated.Damn Boardwalk no longer streaming. Saw Rose Byrne on Damages. Giving this a go.
From the list you provided, you seem to have similar taste to me. I really liked Damages and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it. I've never seen Sherlock, but it's definitely one that I'm really wanting to check out soon.
Sherlock was a good recommendation. It didn't look like my kind of series but man I loved it.

Orange is the New Black premiers this week - like Arrested D, a whole season will be posted - got good marks by the radio review guy - same people are behind Weeds
Nussbaum from the New Yorker liked it too. I was sceptical, but who knows.
Anyone watch the first episode yet?
Watched the first handful of episodes. It's decent but with so many good shows out there I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Not missing out on anything.

Really liked season 1 of The Fall
It's very solid. Anderson looks better now then when she did X-Files.

Wonder if they will send the daughter's drawing out to schools to see if any teachers recognize it.

One criticism I have is the secondary storyline with the cop, who was gunned down, and how that ties in with the Monroe guy who fled. It's not flushed out very well. Think I was 2-3 episodes in before I realized this was a subplot then had to try to remember what preceded it.

This site is awesome. Thanks for the heads up.
:thankyou:How can this be free?

I've been using it quite a bit. Although I'm kinda bummed that they don't have Master Chef.

I tried to get to it and Kaspersky software stopped it. My last pc got completely corrupted and shut down due to going to a russian based movie site. Not gonna go that way again. Not saying this is a russian site, just saying my security software saw some scary ####.

Orange is the New Black

I've struck gold. This Netflix original series about a woman's true life experience in prison is funny and well made.

Highly recommended.
