Stuart Scott espn RIP (1 Viewer)

RIP. That really sucks.

One of the really good guys. He was my favorite ESPN anchor.....ever.

Damn :(

Met the guy once on cruise and hung out with him for a little bit. Really fun and nice guy.

Turned on sportscenter and saw the tribute. Very sad. Crazy that they had it taped and ready to run, complete with interviews by co-workers remembering him.

RIP

Scott's cultural influence shows up in some unexpected places. On the original Teen Titans cartoon ... it's clear that the Cyborg character owes a debt to Stuart Scott.

RIP dude... Sad, he's been battling cancer for a while.
I didn't even know that. Sorry to see him die so young at 49. He was enjoyable on TV and seems like a pretty decent man off the air.Good story about him by Sage Steele in this long article. http://espn.go.com/espn/story/_/id/12118296/stuart-scott-espn-anchor-dies-age-49
If you didn't know about the cancer, you probably missed

when you die it does not mean that you lose to cancer. You beat cancer by how you live, why you live, and the manner in which you live.

Damn, Rich Eisen barely keeping it together. Stuart Scott clearly touched a lot of people during his short time on this earth.

As a survivor of colon cancer myself, whenever I hear stories like this I realize just how lucky I was. Give your loved ones an extra hug today, and like Rich Eisen said, turn your pillow over to the cool side tonight and say a prayer for Stuart Scott and his family.

If you didn't know about the cancer, you probably missed this speech. Pretty powerful.
I had never seen that before. Very impressed.

Didn't even know he had cancer. Damn. :sadbanana:

I remember watching sports center back to back to back in the 90's during the summer. Him, Eisen and Patrick made that station.

Gonna miss Scott. Back when SportsCenter was worth watching, he and Eisen were a great team.
Upon hearing this news, I was transported back to a bar hearing a friend asking if I'd seen this new guy on ESPN who worked rap lyrics into the highlights. I thought he was making it up. The next night I was still up for the West Coast edition of SportsCenter and I couldn't believe ESPN put this guy on the air. He was different, and funny, and passionate.

I would sometimes need to take a break from him because the shtick was so heavy, but he was so fun. And like you mentioned, Eisen was the perfect partner for him: also smart, also funny, but understated enough that the pair didn't overwhelm your ears during the broadcast.

This is going to come off nerdy, but it's not like that's a secret here. I thought he was great on Stump The Schwab. It would have been easy to host that show and act too cool for the room, but IMO Scott came off on that show genuinely happy to let these sports superfans have the opportunity to show how much they know about these silly games we follow, and a behind-the-scenes guy like Schwab getting the opportunity to be on camera.

:(

Booyah
Just found out today that it is Boo-Yow

As for Stuart's most famous line, Eisen discovered one night that it was not what's up on the wall in the new studio. Recalls Eisen: "He would write down the catchphrases on the specific portion of the highlight, so I would watch him do this, and it wasn't 'Boo-Yah,' it was 'Boo-Yow.' He would spell it out B-O-O dash Y-O-W. He was a technician when it came to that sort of thing. I remember being jarred, and when I asked him about it, he thought I was making fun of him. But I wasn't."

Even though he was basically the guy the stopped me from watching sportscenter, I thought he was a decent character guy and I really hate to see cancer rob someone of their latter years in life.

RIP Stuart
