Stuart Scott espn RIP (1 Viewer)

We were blessed locally by having Stuart be our weekend sports guy on WESH channel 2 in Orlando before he got to ESPN. He wasn't as flashy then as he was on ESPN, but you could see the talent he had at his craft. Never understood why they didn't use him more than just a couple days a week because the regular sports guy pretty much sucked. Was happy to see him get his chance at the big time gig, and he knocked it out of the ballpark.

RIP, you'll be sorely missed. Condolences to all your loved ones.

In my late teens, early 20's, Sportscenter was an enjoyable part of my mornings before going to class. Watching Berman/Olbermann and Eisen/Scott was such a memorable part of those years of my life. This one just hits home a bit more and just sobering. I know it's cool to hate on the product that is ESPN now, but back then, it's all there was and it was a perfect fit for my life.

RIP.

Not a fan of the guy's on set persona/style, but horrible to hear of anyone succumbing to cancer. Particularly if he's got a rep as a solid guy. RIP :(

This guy is such a legend. I don't think people fully understand yet how large of an impact ESPN has on our culture in general, he was a huge part of the foundation. RIP.

Not sure if this has been posted yet, but Eisen followed up that gut-wrenching morning announcement with a fantastic Stu Scott tribute while doing the highlights of the Indy/Cin game. Counted nearly 20 Stu Scott sayings in that one package. LINK

Deion & Irving stepping all over Eisen during this tribute

I'm guessing he concluded that since you're a member of the westboro baptist church you're likely a racist bigot not happy that Stuart Scott was divorced and dating a Caucasian?

This 100%

I can remember watching multiple back-to-back hours of SC, even though I knew it was the exact same show replayed. It was just that entertaining when they paired certain guys together on the desk.

SS was def one of those guys....RIP

all ya can do is laugh.. what boneheads... get out of the way...

RIP dude... Sad, he's been battling cancer for a while.
I didn't even know that. Sorry to see him die so young at 49. He was enjoyable on TV and seems like a pretty decent man off the air.

Good story about him by Sage Steele in this long article. http://espn.go.com/espn/story/_/id/12118296/stuart-scott-espn-anchor-dies-age-49
If you didn't know about the cancer, you probably missed this speech. Pretty powerful.

They want them to do that. Its considered playful and interactive.

If Eisen didn't have a personal relationship with the guy, I think its fine, but my god, do they not have the common sense to understand a moment?

Some people were wondering at how ESPN could have put together this Stuart Scott tribute together only hours after his death.

Well because they filmed it 5 months before he died. Dan Patrick, Van Pelt, all the tears that were were shed, all the talk about what a great guy Scott was...everything was filmed in August while Scott was still very much alive and 5 months before his actual death. The only thing that was live was Hannahs Storms into to the tribute. Just seems wrong on so many levels.

Apparently some people (i.e. those who were wondering) are stupid.

If you can go back and listen to Dan Patrick's show from Monday. He has SVP on and they talk about doing that tribute. They both agree it was odd, and SVP mentions trying not to use past tense, because it didn't feel right.

I'm sure there are things like out there for different people in the last stages of life, older, sick, whatever. What is interesting to watch is how quick they can come up with something when we are caught off guard by a death, like Robin Williams.

I don't think it is wrong. Only way to run something that quickly when the "news" breaks.

I'd only find it wrong if it was something like this: https://screen.yahoo.com/tom-brokaw-pre-tapes-000000991.html

Every major newspaper in the country has obituaries on file for many notable public figures. They just did his on video and when they knew it was very likely he wasn't going to make that last bout. It also was a built-in aid for whoever happened to be on-air at the time they found out and announced it. Surely a bit uncomfortable to shoot, but not inappropriate.

It does feel wrong but I think their heart was in the right place in trying to get a full, non-half assed tribute out for him ASAP to show how special he was to them.

What people were wondering? There are people who think they interviewed all those folks 20 minutes after he died? :lmao: It's not inappropriate at all. Not like he got hit by a car. They knew this was coming, unfortunately.

I don't have a problem with it. These people all admired Scott very much and they wanted the rest of the world to know about the impact he had on the industry. They were doing it out of love, not out of exploitation.

Yup - Obits are almost always done well in advance, for any public figure.

Not too difficult to expect ESPN to put together something they knew would air at some point.

I would also add there is the creepy likelyhood stu got to see his tribute.

But I don't think that's a bad thing at all. Big fan of living wakes. Say things and share love with a person and not over a box.

That was another thing that came up in the conversation between Dan Patrick and SVP. They wondered if he had seen the tribute, or had been offered by ESPN.

They did say that he if hey could have been around for one more day, he probably would have loved all of the 'attention' that he received on Sunday.
