Studs who have slowed way down lately (1 Viewer)

What are the owners of the Reggie Wayne, Ray Rice, Adrian Peterson-types doing with them now that playoffs are upon us?

Sticking with the 'never sit your studs' theory and dancing with who brought you, or looking carefully at matchups and considering sitting them down if a late-emerger happens to be on your roster?

I happen to own Wayne and it sucks getting his crappy 5 points when I'm getting 10-15 from bench receivers. But I can't get his early/mid-season consistancy out of my head.

The players you listed had a bad week. It happens. Really wouldn't sit either of the RBs unless you had a MUCH better option when the above face a horrible match-up. And maybe not then, ADP has lit up some really tough D's before.

Only sit Wayne if the Colts clinch and sit.

You want difficult, think V-Jax. There's two or three 4+ page thrads about him allready...

I would never sit ADP...or even Gore....but the way the Niners are tossing the rock all over the place right now...Gore looks lost.

I'm sitting Gore this week for J. Charles. I think you have to also look at the trends of teams. It seems as if the Niners are trying to give Alex Smith a chance to solidify his spot as the starting QB for next year. With 2 first round picks, its important for them to know whether you have to draft a Qb or not.

Sitting Gore for Miles Austin...

who does Champ Bailey usually cover; the #1 or #2 opposing WR? .. that's you answer to Wayne..and for all the love we heap on gRB's who play against Detroit, it just never seems to pan out that we get that 'huge' game from a RB..yes, AP ran for 133 on 18 carries, but it took Benson 36 carries to go 110 yards...Ryan Grant has been average( at best) against Det. So , while Ray Rice *should* have a big game, I wouldn't count on that huge, 130 yard, 55 rec yard, 2 TD outing....Det defense *seems* to be playing better of late..now, I know that is a relative term , we are speaking about Det! :lmao:

Wayne was interviewed by Pat Kirwan yesterday on NFL Sirius (Moving the Chains), and he said he was excited to be matching up against Champ because he was always covering Marvin Harrison, and he thinks it will be fun. He added if he doesn't cover him, well...then he started laughing...

My playoffs start this week, but because I won my division, I get a bye. Regardless of what happens this week, I intend to start Peterson in week 15. He's a stud and this is the reason I drafted him. I will win or lose with AP at the #1 rb spot. He can always explode for one of those weeks that gets you a ton of points. I don't want him on the bench when that happens.

Ray Rice? Really? This was his only subpar game of the season and he's going up against the Lions. Count me in.
:banned: 3 tough matchups in a row and put up good total yardage in 2 of them. Lack of TDs have hurt lately but that will be remedied this week.
I don't think it was ever realistic to expect Rice to be a big TD guy and his production in that area has been nice all season (0.58 TD/game) but he has been a yardage monster all year. Including his bad game vs GB he is still averaging 118 ypg over the last 6 (127 ypg over the 5 previous games).Bench him at your own risk.

Frank Gore fantasy points:

18.30

39.10

0.40 (injured on first play)

5.70 (first game back from injury)

21.90

25.30

20.50

14.30

14.20

6.70

There's only one bad game in the bunch where Gore wasn't effected by an injury, there are 3 pretty good games, and 4 GREAT games.

I don't understand why anyone is benching this guy simply because he had one poor fantasy performance on the season.

I get the feeling that the people benching him Monday night at home against the Cardinals are going to regret it.

I'm sitting Wayne for Santonio Holmes for round 1 of the playoffs. Feel free to call me out and laugh if i'm wrong but Broncos D has been great at limiting talented opponents passing game, Wayne's production has slowed down, Garcon's production has been up (like gonzalez last year), and Santonio Holmes production has been consistently getting 80+ yards since bye and has gotten double digits in the past couple of weeks. This week is against the Browns on Thursday Night with Ward and Mendenhall potentially out and Polamalu gone, they will need to lean on Holmes to put points on the board. Hopefully, Quinn puts up a fight this week like he did against the Chargers so it will be a more high scoring game.

Add me to the list of those concerned about Reggie Wayne. Bowe is back next week but I am not sure what to expect from him after being out 4 weeks. More concerned about him sitting than his lack of production recently....Still unsure what I'll do here.

I do have a bye this week though....

I'm struggling with playing Wayne this week as well. I've got Garcon and I think he will have a bigger day with champ on the other side. Can't decide between Wayne or Garcon.

I know this has been posted before, so please don't get mad at me for asking: But does Champ always line up on one side or does he tend to shadow the opponent's best receiver?

That could be a factor with Wayne.

Benching Gore for Moreno.

 You can't sit Rice or Gore this week, people.

Just keep in mind the weather conditions. It could seriously ground both teams' passing game.

You guys are out of your mind. I have Wayne, Rice and ADP. I'm starting all of them. No way I go into my playoffs and start benching the studs who got me here. It's a recipe for major regret.

You guys are insane. lol.

I'm riding Ray Rice, Frank Gore, and Desean Jackson either to a playoff run or playoff disappointment. No way you sit any of those guys.

I'm even going to stick with Deangelo and Steve Smith (NYG) who have disappointed in recent weeks.

No offense, but don;t be stupid. The two heaviest snowing games in recent history, the combined total points is 115. And over 1000 yards passing...not even 400 yards rushing IIRC

how was the wind?

You'd never forgive yourself if you sit those guys and they go off.

Start your studs. Don't get too cute and outthink yourself.

Yup. I remember sitting Frank Gore a couple of seasons ago for Kolby Smith in the first round of the playoffs. Gore was the underachieving stud and Smith was the hot hand at the time. I'm sure you can guess how that worked out.

I think Champ lines up on 1 side and stays there....I am not 100% sure though. Does anyone know for sure? I have Colston, Austin and Wayne and have to bench 1 of them...

 I have Wayne and wouldn't think of sitting him this weekend for the playoffs. I'm playing against the guy who has Manning which makes it a no brainer but even if I wasn't I would start him. If I go down I want to go down with my best players in the lineup, I can live with a loss that way. If I was to bench a star and it came back to bite me it would haunt me the entire offseason.

Benched Thigpen last season for Shaub Hill's great matchup...lost championship by less than the difference. Always start the guys doing well. Don't pull a "oo nice matchup....!" and screw yourself

Frank Gore career vs. Arizona (9 games):

133 carries 560 yards 9 TDs

35 receptions 335 yards 1 TD

Gore averages 99.44 yards and 1.1 TDs vs. Arizona in his career. He shreds these guys.

It should also be pointed out that the 49ers are 1-2 in their last three games where Gore has been under utilized.

Gore had 25 carries in their win against Chicago, and he had 16 carries in their most recent win against Jacksonville. It's simple, when Gore gets touches the 49ers win.

I think the 49ers will get their head out of the sand and realize that they can't beat Arizona in a shootout with a pass first approach. They know that Frank Gore needs touches for the team to be successful.

The hate for Gore in here is unwarranted. Don't bench this guy on Monday night.

The problem with Rice, compared to the ADPs, Steven Jacksons, and Cedric Bensons of the world, is that they can have a 50 yard game and you still have hope for a TD or even two. Rice needs 100 yards to get you a good game. Of course he scores touchdowns, too, but you have to hope for 15+ yarders because their coach insists on giving McGahee some sort of role so he's been designated the goalline back. You're right about the opponent this week. Rice should be able to run wild against Detroit, but us owners still risk McGahee getting the touchdowns that Rice earned and/or the coaching staff deciding to throw McGahee/McClain a bone and give them the second half work.

Champ locks down one guy. He always used to be against Tony G. back in the day. I would assume he covers Wayne 1 on 1, but a slight chance he covers Dallas Clark.

No chance Mendenhall doesn't play tonight. He's listed as probable. IMO that means not only will he play, the injury will likely have no impact on his performance. As for Wayne/Holmes, at least you know Wayne will be playing under good conditions. Do what you want, but I would never sit Wayne in that scenario.

Never did care much for weather. 93 yards and 6 catches got me 10 points. Don't think I can really get upset at that number, I figured it would be around there for a low side. If he got 7 more yards I would have 4 extra points because of the 100 yd milestone bonus so that sucked but otherwise, I don't think Wayne will go off for 150 yards 2 tds against Denver, really don't. It is possible and Wayne and Manning can beat matchups but it was these kinds of moves that got me from 1-4 to 8-5, highest scoring team, and division winner in my league. Sat Randy Moss when he played Jets and Broncos all year for Djax. Would have started Djax this week but I wasn't sure about how good he'd be coming off injury. It's a 2 WR league and I had Wayne, Moss, Djax, Holmes, and Harvin all year. I had to pick the right guy each week, especially since my top 2 RB were Forte and PT. If Wayne gets 100 yards + 1 TD I still wouldn't get that upset since I thought it wasn't as safe as Holmes. Anyways, it wasn't a bad call in retrospect. There was no doubt Holmes was the go to guy this night and Roethlisberger looked for him like every play like I expected.
