Rolando McClain? Eric Berry? Someone else entirely?

Which rookie is going to make his presence known no matter where he lands? Who needs just the right situation?

I'll answer with just linebackers because it seems that league scoring rules make lineman and secondary very dependent on how they score. Will shine, no matter what (not an order of preference, just numbered to list):1. Sean Witherspoon2. Brandon Spikes-I know, a lot of ho humming about this guy and his speed, etc,but if you watch him, you know he will be a playmaker anywhere he goes.3. Any linebacker that goes to Miami early.Situation dependent:1. Rolando McClain (he is NOT the next Patrick Willis)2. Sergio Kindle

It's too early for this thread. IDP production is so dependent on the team that the player is drafted by, the scheme that he plays in, and the specific position that he plays in that scheme(WILL v. MIKE v. SAM in a 4-3, OLB v. ILB in a 3-4, SS v. FS, etc.). There's a lot more that can be said AFTER the NFL draft.

The closest are the two safeties, Berry and Thomas, and the Dt Suh and McCoy, but they are in positions where their fantasy impact won't match the NFLimpact. I think the IDP draft has a bunch of guys who need be in the correct defense, so unfortunately I don't think there is draft this guy in IDP no matter what.

I too think until we know where these guys get drafted there is nobody in this draft you can count on for an immediate impact. Sure, a few of these guys will probably have an immediate impact but selecting which ones before the draft is a tough task.

I was hoping to get some intel BEFORE all the guys in my league come here after the draft, but I hear what you're saying about it being too early.

after the hype on Landry a couple of yrs ago... I will never draft a Safety high again

:lmao: I am with you- I don't care how highly touted they are, I don't draft Safeties, CB's, and DT's until at least the 4th round.

:goodposting: I agree with most of this I think Sean will end up being the best LB in this group, I think some positions are draft dependent, but if your a good LB you will get on the field. Not many NFL teams have 3 or 4 good LB'ers. Which is why it seems more rookie LB's are making a more immediate impact.

Rolando McClain and Sean Weatherspoon have value where ever they go and are likely the top two IDPs off the board. I think Brandon Spikes is falling down boards inside and Jamar Chaney is moving up them. Sean Lee is a sleeper inside in the right situation.

I like Brandon Graham and Jerry Hughes in sack-heavy leagues, whether they are OLB or small DEs on a team like Indy who knows how to use them. Koa Misi and Jason Worilds are the next tier of that type of player. I think Sergio Kindle is overrated, let him go on name recognition. I'm conservative on Ricky Sapp too, wondering about knee, but somewhere like Miami would be instantly appealing in sack-heavy leagues. Interested to see how high and where Navorro Bowman, Thad Gibson, and Eric Norwood go before deciding on them. Daryl Washington is too small, I'm passing on him.

Derrick Morgan is a three-down player at end, he doesn't have huge upside, but his floor is Alex Brown, at worst. I like Everson Griffen as a lock to be a three-down player too. JPP could start as a pass rush specialist, but has a higher ceiling. Carlos Dunlap depends on where he goes. Steal somewhere like Philly, pass if he ends up as a 3-4 end. Interested to see where and when Greg Hardy is drafted. That guy fell off a cliff, but if he gets his act together somewhere, he's a steal. Same for George Selvie, to a lesser extent. Both are deep sleepers.

Obviously Eric Berry, but I'd rather get Taylor Mays, Chad Jones, Reshad Jones or Morgan Burnett late. I think Earl Thomas is overrated, but I like him better as a corner. At corner, Kyle Wilson and, to a lesser extent, Dominique Franks offer add'l value as returners. I think Patrick Robinson and Kareem Jackson are underrated.

Tenacious D, what makes you say he's too small to be an everydown MLB?
A scale :sarcasm: He weighed 230 at the Combine, smaller at the Senior Bowl, so his collegiate playing weight was realistically 220-something. Perhaps he can bulk up to handle the role, but it won't be this year. He'll more likely be developed as a WLB as a pro and will be overvalued in fantasy rookie drafts.

6'2", 234 is the numbers I have on Washington. I don't think it's irrational to think he can gain 5-10 pounds by August. The kid can play.

6016 and 226 was his official Senior Bowl and the same height and 230 was his official Combine, and presumably he was already trying to bulk up for it. Sure it's possible, but so is his upside is WLB and he might spend at least his rookie year as a back-up and special teams ace.

I've been trying to find some info, but assuming guys like Spoon and McClain land in good spots, when are they typically drafted in rookie drafts??? I've never taken part in a rookie draft with IDP, so I'm just not sure. I'm guessing toward the late part of the 1st round??? Seems you can get good defensive talent over the 2nd tier offensive guys?

Defensive players should NEVER be drafted in the first round of a rookie draft. In my experience of leagues with normal scoring, defensive players don't start getting drafted until late second or early third rounds.

There is always one and sometimes two defensive players picked in the first round of our draft.

A lot depends on the league size, starting line-ups, and scoring. In my IDP dynasty leagues one is 12 teams and the other is 16. In both we start pretty common offenses with 11 defensive players. One of those leagues has 53 man rosters and it's really hard to find good FA defensive players.
