Suggest a warm vacation in January w/ 1 y.o. (1 Viewer)

I need to get the heck out of town for a few days 3-5 while it's cold and before child #2 comes.

I don't think I want to leave the baby for a few days... but i'd like to get to somwehere warm in mid-Jan.

Any suggestions of somewhere that would be warm (warm water) that type of year that isn't a bear to get to and would be baby friendly?

Or am I dreaming.. is this stupid

Leave the kid back with someone. We take a vacation every year without the kids. It does wonders for your marriage.

i guess i just can't imagine leaving the little guy for 3-4 days at this time.. at 3-4 y.o. i could easily see that.

Maybe i should consider this.

Maybe i should consider a shorter trip like to Vegas or something with just the wife and come back quicker.

We did a 2 day b&b trip when our first was 4 months old. But it was a 2 hour drive away. I don't know how old the kid is or if you have grandparents who will happily take the kid for a few days. My wife was on board with it and it was a nice trip.

This year we took 7 day trip to San Francisco (kids are 4 and 6). Each year in between it was a 3-5 day drivable vacation.

What does "baby friendly" mean? 1-year olds will sleep anywhere, no? Traveling with toddlers (and planning around nap schedules) is much harder than traveling with a baby as I recall.

Water isnt going to be super-warm in Fla in Jan. Go further south. Find an all-inclusive that offers childcare for babies.

I'd never been on a cruise before and my expectations were low but I have to say it was better than I expected.

Lots of activities for kids of all ages. My 9yo had a ball.

Of course not. She did sleep most of the flight and barely cried so that was easy. Once there grandma and the servants took care of her, which was nice.

Vegas is easy. Take a nanny type. Get two rooms. You enjoy the kid during the day, hand the kid off to the friend/nanny at night.

Vegas isn't warm during the winter.
Yeah Dentist I'm doing a guys' golf trip in Vegas 1/9-1/12. More than welcome to join us, but mornings will be just above freezing and middays should be in the 60s.

Still pretty damn nice though.

I went around New Years several years ago and it was very warm. But this winter is expected to be a bad one.

I got married at a place in Riviera Maya called Azul Beach Hotel. The childcare was great (brothers/sisters used) and the all inclusive food/drink is excellent. You fly into Cancun and it's a 15 minute drive from the airport.

No kids yet here but also a little confused as to why you want to bring the kid. They can handle being left with grandparents at that age and they won't be missing you like they would if they were a few years old. I'd rather have a 3 year old kid on a trip where you're playing on the beach/in the water with them and leaving them in the room with a sitter at night, than a one year old who is basically an appendage at that point.

And I'm sure a few days away for just the two of you will be welcomed.

edit: If you leave the kid at home, I'd suggest Karisma's other adults-only resorts.

I live within a short drive from Vegas. I hope I'm not jinxing myself here, but the weather has been amazing so far.

Did anyone's kids fall overboard on this cruise?
Not that I'm aware of--is that a common problem?
That was directed more at the guy who took his kid(s) on a cruise... you know the cruise lines never comment on this kind of stuff... it's all hush-hush, international laws, no court of jurisdiction, etc.
I was on a cruise with someone who jumped overboard. Happened in the middle of the night. By the time they checked the video it had been over 6 hours and we didn't turn around. I don't think they ever found him.

They keep a list of this stuff here:

so if you're looking to jump go Carnival?

odd way to off yourself.... drowning or getting eaten by sharks sounds a lot worse than shooting yourself in the head

Yea, going overboard sounds like a really bad way to go. A lot of the ones I read (and I haven't gone through it since 2011) were people who had lost money in the casino.

bad beats will do that to a man

You may think it will be hard to leave the kid home but once on the vacation you will love it and wonder why you ever thought of taking them with. I have a 7&5 yr old and can't imagine taking them with so far. That will change soon as they become more independent.

If you can afford it, Maui. There are some very young family friendly hotels on Kanapaali Beach. Beautiful, warm, great food, relax at the pool and the beach all day long.

please don't let me get stuck next to a 1 year old on a 4-5 hour flight.....

I have stayed here a number of times. Fly into Fort Myers and you have a little over ran hour drive. The resort has everything you want or need on site and is kid friendly. Plus if you want to can take a day trip on a ferry to the Keys.

Marco Island Marriot

From the midwest that's just too dang far to travel with or without a 1 y.o.

It's so much quicker and easier for me to get to the Caribbean than Hawaii.. not to mention the brutality of the time change.

I can afford it, but i can't ever see going to Hawaii when there are places like Turks and Caicos or St. Johns much closer to me that don't have the time change issues.
