**Sunday Night Football - Lions at Chiefs**(-1.5, 53) 8:20 (2 Viewers)

Kudos to the Chiefs for having no penalties. That is very difficult in today's NFL.

NFL Network showed that on the Goff TD motion penalty Chris Jones was lined up in the neutral zone. Should have been offsetting and 4th and goal from the 1. They were also puzzled at why it took a minute after the play to decide to throw the flag. Make the call or no call and live with it.
It is a pretty obscure rule that to be honest I have never actually seen come into play in all my years of watching and reffing football....I can understand why there was some pause and discussion....

Branch was pissed because JuJu blocked him in the back and knocked him to the ground and kinda did the balzac drag stepping over him late in the game (wasn't called because it was a Chief player of course). Branch felt he needed to retaliate for the dis. Branch should have been smarter, but I may have done the same thing to JuJu. I'm sure Campbell will give him an earful....or High Five him...Campbell is a little crazy himself.
you know the Chiefs are officially back when this crap starts up again....it was crickets for 5 weeks....but here we go again...

I understand that. Reffing in pro sports is not easy and there are missed calls every game. To me this was just a missed call that should haver stood, like a missed holding call on a TD.

The NFL Network also showed the blindside block on Branch late in the gamed by Shuster that was not called. If the crew got together a minute after the play and then threw a flag on Shuster well after the fact I would disagree with that as all.

The refs on the field were not sure if Goff came to a stop or not, so they had to be informed by someone. What do you think?

Man, ya’ll are soft as hell. What happened to the Lions biting off kneecaps? .. Nothing but a bunch of Pussycats trying to act tough.

FYI, that wasn’t a block in the back, JuJu blocked him on his side. Branch has been one of the dirtier players in this league over the last few years so he’s the last person to get the benefit of the doubt. Dude was getting b*tched all over the field and got in his feelings afterwards. He’s mentally weak.

Yeah. I'm even tired of it, so you know it's bad

a holding call is a judgement call.....the problem with the Goff play was he went under center and presented himself as playing the QB....then went in motion and didn't stop.....so it really wasn't a "judgement" call it was a rule violation....I'm not going to get in a pissin match about whether he stopped or not (which would be the only judgement).....it was very clear he never came to a stop

and as fantasyguru said....the hit on Branch looked to be from the side....at least debatable if nothing else....and would therefore fall into the judgement category and one of the "missed" calls you said you see every game if it was in fact from behind....also IIRC the hit on Branch was not at the point of attack and away from the play, so there is often not a lot of referee attention in those areas....so with that said, while I don't know if it was technically "illegal" being a block in the back....it was probably very unnecessary and I could see why Branch was mad since it was "away from the play"...

lastly....I don't think New York or whoever tipped them off or intervened and told them it was an illegal play.....I think someone on the crew knew of the rule and shared that information.....in addition, usually before every game, the white hat and at least one other official meet with the coaches and actually ask them if they are planning on running any trick plays etc....(we even do this in high school).....because it helps the game if officials aren't surprised by something that is out of the ordinary.....you don't want officials unfamiliarity with a play to cause it not to be officiated properly where you have an inadvertent whistle or something....so if Campbell let them know ahead of time, it is very possible that this paly was something they knew might be coming and they familiarized themselves with the legal details of the play....the pause after the play may have involved them not really being sure who should have thrown the flag/whose responsibility it was to penalize it....because the QB initially was the white hat's responsibility as he went under center, but then becomes a sideline guys responsibility when he goes in motion...

It's not a Chiefs thing. JuJu has a history of troll energy (see Burfict hit, logo dances, etc). Yeah Burfict deserved it but that Von Bell retaliation hit on JuJu also one of the best hits of all time. It's the showboating and trolling that makes players want to turn JuJu into a literal punching bag. But Branch shouldn't have let it get to him, it has to happen in the game.

You gotta realize who these players are .. Burfict is DEFINITELY one of the dirtiest players this league has ever seen and the hit was paycheck for the hit that gave Antonio Brown CTE .. And, then Branch is no model citizen himself, he’s been taking dirty hits over the years .. So there’s no sympathy for these guys. Branch got handled the entire game and let his frustrations show after, bush league.

Yeah edited to say Burfict deserved it. But JuJu has a history of disrespecting players after a big hit, stepovers, balzag drags. His trolling after the Burfict hit was bush league. The hits are great, it's all the extracurriculars which ironically Mahomes said they don't do in post game. But JuJu one of the most annoying players with that stuff. Branch still needs to not lose his cool though.
