Sunday Ticket Includes HD This Year (1 Viewer)

One less thing I'll have to bargain about with them. I have gotten the ticket free for the past 5 seasons and in reality made deals where I come out well ahead, averaging about 350-400 off my bill and I know ticket is expensive but more like 250. The "My wife wants to switch" works well.

I bet the bargaining is probably over. They likely made this change since they heard from so many people how bogus it was to charge extra for HD. They have now answered that objection, and my guess is that the sales team has been told to hold the line going forward. Hope I am wrong - I enjoyed my annual negotiation, and the subsequent success celebration.

They raised the price and took away sf since it was all over the net how to get it for free. 314.93 for the ticket? Not me not anymore locals and internet plenty good enough for me.

I hope the online games are part of that subscription cost. For someone like myself who travels weekly for work, that is needed.

 I couldnt agree more! NFL ST will no longer be a part of my Sundays. :)But I will look into adding the Red Zone Channel on NFL Network which Ive heard is around $10 a month? I'll take that ANY day over $314.93!!

Wait. You can do that????? That's all I watch about 95% of the time.

I think they will still give discounts for customers that have been with them for a long time. Red Zone channel on dish is always a option if it doesn't work.

Not yet. Maybe not ever. However this was sent to a poster on a different message board (PDF HERE TO VIEW IN FULL) mentioning the possibility of a stand alone Red Zone channel. I think it's the NFL Network one, not the one that comes with Sunday Ticket.

(Quoted from PDF file): Finally, DIRECTV subscribers who don't subscribe to NFL Sunday Ticket can purchase just the Red

Zone Channel (all the plays inside the 20 yard line and the other most exciting moments taking place in

each game) on their television for an additional monthly fee.

Things may be looking up.... :goodposting: :excited:

Well, I'm sure the Red Zone Channel from NFL Network is just as good as the DirecTV one. So according to this, you can get that now if you don't get Sunday Ticket?

Awesome! The last 2 years I have had to purchase the Sunday ticket and superfan just so I could watch the red zone channel.

If this turns out to be the case, I will no longer be a Sunday Ticket subscriber. And I have a feeling DirecTV will lose a ton of Sunday Ticket subscribers who only want the Red Zone channel. $50 vs $300+ is not even a decision in my mind. Barring significant discounts for the Sunday Ticket that is.

$18 bucks every Sunday ...$3 and hour. iMO that's a steal for the amount of fun I have on those 17 weeks. The again, I'm not a Red Zone fan and I have 2 TVs running games. With all my fantasy teams, plus my favorite team, I'd rather flip through games of my choice.

Hmm.. we must all watch football differently. I've never felt the urge to watch the RZC.

Interesting the DTV is possibly offering RZC as a stand alone. Comcast and Dish offered the NFL version of RZC on Sports tiers last season for around $6 a month, so probably only $30 for the season. Verizon Fios offered it for around $50 for the whole season.

Initially I would think DTV would lose a ton of subs moving to RZC from the main package, but as others have said, we all watch for different reasons. Hard core displaced fans are probably going to stick with the full package no matter what. Others just like to pick the best game, so they will stay.

Another angle might be the fan who has never bought ST but would try RZC just for some variety. Or they could add it to the sports pack which is $13 a month and hope that some people stick around after the season is over.

I wonder how much a family a 4 plus parking would cost to go to a game VS seeing a season of ALL the games in HD on ST.

i still think they should make it like college football, and be able to order single games

rzc is all you need for fantasy football, and then order "your fav team" game if your not local

but thats just wet dreams (plus i dont have DTV no more)

if they are not willing to will and deal then i will cancel my ST not paying $315 for football.

I believe the auto renew starts July 1

I know Dish has RZC on NFL Network now for a very low price. Not sure yet if Directv has it. But if they do not I will be switching to Dish. I found myself watching a TON of the RZC on Sunday Ticket last year. So why not pay $50 or so rather then $300!?? If I get an answer on this I will repost in here fellas. (for those interested)

Sunday Ticket has all the following this year for $314.93. Early Bird Discount (Before July 1) is $299.99

I like that they are finally giving us all the games in HD and that I don't have to call and barter to get SF. $300 is nothing to see all of the Chargers and Redskins games in the comfort of our own home on a 54" HD TV. We could easily spend that in a few weeks of going to a bar to see the games but with 2 kids that is near impossible these days.

Verizon rzc and internet feeds connected to another tv suit me fine for fifty bucks. ST is just going through the roof.

I agree. A little more than $17 a week is not much for me to pay. Of course I will be calling in and trying to get a discount but if all else fails I will probably keep it.

Any confirmation to the rumor that DirecTV will be letting customers purchase the RZC as a it's own package?
Talked to DirecTV today. First guy I got in the customer retention department said you can't get the Red Zone Channel by itself. Says it's only available as part of the new Sunday Ticket package that includes the old Super Fan stuff. So I asked to talk to a supervisor, who said the same thing. So I read off the DirecTV document to the supervisor where it specifically said they'd be offering Red Zone for a fee to non-Sunday Ticket Subscribers, and the supervisor only said that just isn't true. Offered no other explanation. He had never heard of that. Has no information on it whatsoever.Classic DirecTV.

Ugh. I so want to like direcTV. But this seems to be SOP. I guess I'll proly have to call to cancel my ticket. Before they automatically renew me. Love the RZC only option. Hope it's real. Too much life interferes with NFL to give up 300 bux nowadays. Sundays ala carte would be nice. You'd get 100 bucks from me a season.

Valence,

FCC Laws say that your landlord must allow you access to a satellite signal. He can dictate where the dish may be placed (e.g., pole mounted and not attached the the roof or the building) but he cannot deny you getting satellite dish service or else he is in violation of Federal Laws.

I manage Condos & Homeowners Associations and we cannot deny Owners satellite dish service. We can only tell them where they are and aren't allowed to place the dish.

Is this true even for apartment buildings? What would be options to do so?

I just Googled it and the first thing that came up was:

I just found this on the FCC's website:

"In 1996, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) adopted rules for Over-the-Air-Reception Devices (“OTARD” rules). The OTARD rules prohibit restrictions on a property owner or tenant’s right to install, maintain, or use an antenna to receive video programming from direct broadcast satellites (DBS), broadband radio services (formerly referred to as multichannel multipoint distribution services or MMDS), and television broadcast stations (TVBS). However, there are exceptions to the OTARD rules, including provisions for safety and preservation of historic areas."

Poke around that to see if you are prohibited by any of the restrictions and if not, print this out for your landlord.

Yeah, they can keep you from mounting it to their building and they can put other restrictions on it (i.e. the need to carry a certain amount of liability insurance, which is usually included with your renter's) but they generally can't keep you from putting it up in the first place.

Obviously, your landlord will raise a stink about it ,but you do have the law on your side.

Guys here is an entire thread on the subject , plus the paragraphs of the complete FCC Law that are pertinent to our subject. Most landlords simply aren't aware of the law. Good read:

When I lived in an apartment, I had the same issues as you. I wanted Directv but couldn't get it because 1. the apartment complex did not want me installing a satellite dish and 2. the apartment complex had an agreement with Time Warner Cable. I found the same rules as what is posted here and called Directv for an install. I didn't ask permission from the leasing office because my plan was to place the satellite dish on a tripod outside my door (I had a patio). When the Directv installer came, he stopped by the rental office and tried to tell me he couldn't install it because of the rental office rule. I explained to him that the leasing office cannot dictate what type of cable provider that I have and referenced the FCC law. He said, "I see you did your homework" and tested my location for a satellite signal. Unfortunately, my door / patio was facing northeast and you need to have your satellite face south. Due to the setup of the units, it was impossible unless I modified the structure and I could not get Directv.

If this is in your lease, most likely it's referring to modification of the apartment (i.e. screwing the dish into the roof or side of the building). Federal law would trump a contract but I believe as long as you don't modify the structure or create an unsafe living area, then it is your right to get Directv.

While it is an apples to oranges comparison, it makes sense to recognize that for the price of attending ONE GAME in person, you can get a WHOLE SEASON of football (every game) for about the same price. Kind of like buying a cart full of groceries for $200 instead of going out for a fancy dinner that costs the same...You are probably going to get more value from the grocery store visit.

 The Red Zone channel doesn't do much for me either. I watch every play of the Lions games and surf around during commercial or at halftime.

I use one TV to browse through the games I want to see, and another TV that is tuned to RZC all day. Works great!

That said, I'm seriously thinking about dropping ST this year. I understand what you guys are saying about breaking it down weekly, but for those of us who used to pay $139/year, the current rates have become tough to stomach.

I hear you and have had the ST for 5+ years. The argument doesnt really hold water though because most people won't go to a single game either way. The ST has gone up in price pretty significant every year, I can see why people are complaining about the price. For me the thing I really like about the ticket was the online feature because I could always have that running on my laptop when watching the game I really care about, or I could be making dinner or sitting outside and still have a game on. If they arnt throwing that in for free (along with some type of other discount) I wont be back. Its just to easy to find a stream of a game if you really want to watch it.

Called DTV today and reordered the Sunday Ticket by getting $20 a month off for 6 months. She said it was $299 and tried offering me to stay for only $10 a month but I told her to cancel, then she came back with $20. I am happy to get the ST plus all the games in HD for only $180.

i would be happy with this. i called to canceled the auto renew and the op did not offer anything.

As for the Red Zone channel, it can get a little lame during the afternoon games. It basically turns into Sportscenter, with mostly highlights from the morning games. I'll stick with Sunday Ticket and be able to watch any game I want.

Never had sunday ticket...called Direct TV to fiddle with some of the services I was getting.....asked about ST....7 payments of 44.95.....I said no thanks....no deal was offered.

Just called in to cancel and they layed down for $30.00 a month for 6 months. Funny how inconsistent they are being............
