Super Bowl LVI - Bengals vs Rams - Discussion & GAME Thread (1 Viewer)

He was 3rd in the league in rushing yards, had 13 rushing tds,  over 40 receptions and 3 receiving td’s this past season.  On the biggest game of the year—they are going to bench the dude that averaged nearly 5 yards a carry in the game for two of the biggest plays of the game?   I said it earlier in the thread—unless Mixon was hurt—putting Perine in at that point in the game was a horrid decision. I’m not using hindsight either. As I was watching the game—I was wondering where the heck Mixon was at that time.
This is the way they played the entire season.  Mixon was always taken out in 2 minute and 3rd down plays for Perine.  It's what they did.  I agree it's a horrid decision (especially in the SB) but I am sure they just ran their normal packages that they had done all year.

For most of the season it's probably ok in the big picture as it saves some wear and tear on Mixon and quite possibly Perine is a better pass protector and that was the reason he was used in that role all year.   However, with you entire season on the line you need to put in your best RB and that was Mixon.  A poor coaching decision for sure.

I think the vast majority of us believe this, so it'd be interesting to know why Taylor has him in there. It could be compensating for his poor OL by getting another big blocking body in there.
That was my first thought as to why Perine was the 3rd down back....that he was the best RB in pass protection.  But in the biggest game with the most on the line in a place where you aren't not having the RB block you need to have Mixon in there.  I believe everyone here is on the same page with this belief.

i believe Buffalo and KC would have beat the Rams but you have to get there first.
I think the Bills at their best was better than anyone's else best this past season, but their hiccups and inability to close out too many close games hurt them, which is why were the 3 seed.  Things could have been a lot different had Allen not falling down on the 4th play against the Titans and had they not lost to the Jags.

I’m sure you’re talking about 3rd down, but what was he doing on the desperation toss on 4th? I know the play was all just last ditch, but the ball almost hits him in the shin in the air and he barely even tried for it.
I thought the same thing.  At least dive for it. He Cam Newton’d it.

Just skimming the last few pages of this thread...

I had no idea we had so many HOF coaches posting here. 😂

Then came the sulking...

I'm just going to guess that the folks here didn't enjoy the halftime show either.

You people are the best. 👍

I salute the Rams for winning in spite of playing 2.5 quarters with only one offensive weapon after the OBJ injury and surviving a gift (OPI no-call) touchdown.  What a dominant 2nd half from the Rams Defense!

They had the replay of the game on last night and showed it from a different angle and he was farther away than it first appeared.

I also think it came out of Burrow's arm too fast to react - remember that he was being swung around almost a 360.

It wasn't even close to Cam who moved toward the ball, hesitated and then took a step back.
