3 penalties on Pittsburgh tonight: 2 false starts in the first 4 snaps, an offensive PI on a 5 yard screen pass, and that's it.I've heard that an official can call holding on every play....if he "sees" it.How many holding calls on Pittsburgh today?

I think the big contention here is that the official runs in from the sideline ready to mark the ball around the 4-6 inch line. He then sees Roethlisberger laying on the goalline and signals TD.The Big Ben TD was clearly the correct call. They showed the tip of the ball breaking the plane of the goal line. That's all that is required. Non-issue.
No. My team played poorly. I think both teams played poorly. Actually, the played poorly on offense, but much of that should be credited to solid defense as well. So, to all of the people whining about the officiating of this game... do you think Seattle played well enough to win?
Awful strange scene watching Cowher out at midfield waiting for Holmgren ... any further word on whether they ever shook hands?????
I'd like to know what happened.9 for 21 with 2 INTS????????What a joke.Since the refs aren't on the ballot, probably Big Ben. He's the only player you could really say was around all game.Who's the MVP of this abomination? Hines Ward?
9 for 21 and 2 picks is worthy of MVP?Since the refs aren't on the ballot, probably Big Ben. He's the only player you could really say was around all game.Who's the MVP of this abomination? Hines Ward?
Didn't know his stats. There just wasn't anyone else that really stood out, IMO. Several players had brief flashes, but no one appeared to carry the team on his back. For either team.Hey Shick!,Were you able to apply KY before kickoff?Congrats to Pittsburgh and their fans.![]()
I couldn't tell for sure, but it looked to me like his elbow broke the plane, not the ball. If the elbow but not the ball breaks the plane, should that be a TD? I don't think so, but I'm not positive.I think the big contention here is that the official runs in from the sideline ready to mark the ball around the 4-6 inch line. This is sad.Hey Shick!,Were you able to apply KY before kickoff?Congrats to Pittsburgh and their fans.![]()
Sorry bro... you are so in the minority... look on all message boards from all neutral fans... Seattle got jobbed on key plays. Period. This whining about officiating is 100% ridiculous.
HOW can anyone say the PI call was poor when he blatantly extended his arm right in front of the ref to push off? That's called EVERY time when the receiver completely extends his arm like that, and I'd feel the same way if it were Hines Ward doing it.
So is the Locklear holding call, when Haggans was taken down from the side. It was a huge call, I agree.
And I'm sorry, but the ball very easily could've broken the plane on Ben's TD run. Not the entire ball, but the corner of it that was tucked in by his elbow. If it wouldn't have been called a TD, that call would've stood, too.
I love how no one cares that Hasselbeck threw a very costly INT or they gave up a 75 yard TD run or they gave up a 40+ yard trick play TD or they scored only 10 points or the Steelers held Seattle to 33% 3rd down conversions or Josh Brown missed 2 field goals or...
It's so much easier to just blame the refs.

Classic. A Steeler fan defending the refs. Shocking. The DB did more pushing on that play than Jackson. Not necessary. I'm not going to whine. My team didn't make plays when they had opportunities.Hey Shick!,Were you able to apply KY before kickoff?Congrats to Pittsburgh and their fans.![]()

Well if Pittsburgh played well enough to win, then Seattle certainly did.So, to all of the people whining about the officiating of this game... do you think Seattle played well enough to win?

Noone is denying the 75 yard run... not at all... but the Hass INT shoudl be a non-issue via the 1st and 1yd bad holding call episode. Refs picked the bad spots for the bad calls... plain and simple.I was with you right up to here -- none of these would/could/should have happened if not for piss poor officiatingThis whining about officiating is 100% ridiculous.

There was a wide shot as the clock hit zero and teams were coming onto the field,Holmgren started running towards the left end-zone as if he were chasing down an official.I don't know if he came back to congratulate Cowher. Anyone else see it?Awful strange scene watching Cowher out at midfield waiting for Holmgren ... any further word on whether they ever shook hands?????
I think you should watch that play again. Hope grazed his shoulder and didn't impede his progress at all. Jackson extended his arm and pushed off.And I'd hardly say Steeler fans are thrilled with officiating these playoffs. They just overcame some awful calls in the Indy game. This whining about officiating is 100% ridiculous.

The PI call. Just AWFUL. There was as much contact the other way. The little bit of contact didn't affect the play at all. And the ref clearly got talked into the call by the DB. It's the only explanation that could make sense....besides the unbelievable notion that the officials blew it.I'd bet any amount of money that didn't happen. Where are you getting this BS from?A TO can be called by the Sidelines. Which is what happened. How does he explain away calling a TO with a big fat ZERO on the play clock?NFL will admit nothing. Every Wednesday they trot their director of officiating out to explain why you can't believe what you saw on Sunday and why their officials made the right call in every circumstance.
The offensive pass interference -- falls under the letter of the rule, though it's not called that way 99 percent of the time.
Ben's TD -- nothing indisputable on replay, so the ref made the right call.
The holding calls -- absolutely perfect.
Maybe they'll confess on the Hasselbeck tackle; by admitting guilt on a relatively minor infraction, they gain plausibility in their denial of all the other blown calls.
When do you see a complete game of every little single ticky tack call go against one team?? NeverAwful, awful job by the refsThe PI call. Just AWFUL. There was as much contact the other way. I'm a Giants fan,had no interest in either team, just wanted to watch a Super Bowl. The Steeler win was legit. They made more big plays than Seattle. Don't blame the officials because Seattle lost. Blame 2 missed FG's by Brown,an INT by Hasselbeck in the red-zone, poor clock management by Holmgren and bad angles by the DB's on Parker's TD. Funny, but the guys on the NFL network just said he did.I disagree that it is called 9 times out of 10, but thats only becuase I think the cercumstances are differnent 9 times out of 10 as well. We do see contact similar to that in coverage all the time. The difference in this case was that Jackson was already open and ran back to the defender and initiated the contact. That appears to be a flagrent PI, especially when you do it directly in front of an official IMO. He was already open and did not need to come back and push off. He did anyway and cost his team. It was a poor judgement by Jackson, not the official.Well, people will have their opinions, and that's OK.I suggest you watch that PI call again... when the WR extends his arm, it's called 9 times out of 10 whether it affects the play or not. You've got to be kidding me. Let me guess, Steeler fan? Unbelieveable.I don't think anyone's talking about that call. They're talking about the pass that set up first and goal on the one that was called back, after which Madden watched the replay and said there was no holding.ANYONE who thinks the call on Locklear was bogus needs to go back and watch that play again.
Haggans got around him and Locklear used his right arm to drag him. He didn't have position and was beaten around the end. It was a huge call, but if anyone can watch that play again and NOT see holding, they're blind.
The first one, yes it was the correct call. The second one on the pass to Stevens, absolutely horrible call. Madden even commented he couldn't see where there was holding.ANYONE who thinks the call on Locklear was bogus needs to go back and watch that play again.

I'm talking about the 2nd one, and it was Locklear's right arm that dragged down Haggans because Haggans beat him to the outside. No matter what Madden said immediately after the play, it's clear on the replays. I just watched it again. The first one, yes it was the correct call. The second one on the pass to Stevens, absolutely horrible call. Madden even commented he couldn't see where there was holding.ANYONE who thinks the call on Locklear was bogus needs to go back and watch that play again.

Umm when you see the highlight trying to point out the holding and you cannot find a hold then yes it did not happen and it was a bad call. And of course,if John Madden says it didn't happen,it didn't,because he's never wrong. The first one, yes it was the correct call.
