Super Bowl XLVIII - Date could move.... (1 Viewer)

No way can this happen. You're talking about flight and hotel arrangements for the tens of thousands of people attending. Not to mention if it's Monday, they'll maybe get a quarter of the ratings.

Well, according to weather.com, it won't get above freezing between now and next Friday, and there is a 60% chance of snow next Friday in New York....

ever since they announced it was in NY in what i considered one of the dumbest decisions of our time, I really was looking forward to them getting completely blown out by weather.

So this is awesome.
10 day forecasts are to the Mid-Atlantic what an Amish guy is to Vegas recommendations.

While I agree, at this point it's all we have.

Oh yeah, wasn't saying that looking at it isn't prudent, just saying that things change pretty quickly in this corridor.

Good Grief Really?? Goodell seems to be playing the part of chicken little very well. First no tailgating/parking...now this?
Its a contingency plan. What's the problem?
Say you had airfare and hotel for specific days assuming a Sunday game, and then they move the game? Can you not see potential problems?
Weather has been impacting events since the first Troglodyte Bowl was pushed back a day after Super Sandstorm Igbo 50,000 years ago. #### happens.

They can't control the weather. If its that bad I would think nobody is flying in or out. They took a chance having the Super Bowl in the north. #### might happen that's out the control of humans. Its a chance. Should the "act" like nothing is going to happen and keep their fingers crossed?

Yes they should. Football can be played in snow.

I'm not even getting into the advertising nightmare moving the game would cause. Corporations pay millions if not billions to have their ads run during the Superbowl at a specific time when they know the majority of Americans will have their butts in a sofa watching. Now imagine telling them their ad is getting played on a Monday instead, or having to sort out how much the ads they already paid for are worth on a Monday as opposed to Sunday.

There are so many factors that get affected by moving an event this large. It wont happen.

If the game is played Monday the same people are still going to see the same ads.

I agree it probably won't be moved, but #### happens. How is the news to anyone?

If it's 50 and sunny, it's a brilliant move and possibly opens it up for future cold weather SB's.

If there's a blizzard, it's the dumbest idea ever and forever taints Goodell's legacy as commish.

No, actually, if there is a chance of the latter happening, it's the dumbest idea ever. What the hell is wrong with people? How did this get past the planning phase? I'm embarrassed to be part of the human race.

No they wont. The Superbowl starts at 3:30 on the west coast. People work on Mondays. Not everyone is going to take the day off. There will also certainly be a huge drop in the number of Superbowl parties on Monday. So people who normally wouldnt care about the Superbowl but watch anyway because they're at a party, suddenly aren't watching.

Point is, if it gets moved to Monday, there will be significantly less people viewing. A Saturday move would also probably see lower numbers but not nearly as much.

Sure they can. Have the game played in the warm weather stadiums as usual.

It was a built in deal when they built the new stadium. Seems a little shady to me, but I'm hoping for complete disaster, so they don't consider anything like this again.

There has always been contingency plans for the Super Bowl. This is nothing new. Totally blown out of proportion.

As for the tailgating, I have talked to and heard from people that have been multiple Super Bowls and each have said they have never seen tailgating at a SB. The areas surrounding the stadium has been reserved fro corporate tents, tv trucks, etc. Again this is a non-story that is getting attention just because people are against where it is being held this year.

Everybody loves the Super Bowl, and everybody loves football in the snow, yet somehow everyone hates the idea of a Super Bowl played in the snow.

I'm a Giants fan and I thought it was stunningly asinine from the moment they announced it. Really bad storms happen with regularity up there this time of year. If I still lived up there, I'd be going to all the events and I'm sure I'd be proud that the city is hosting the event. But the risk and potential downside is so huge IMO that it should not have been seriously considered.

The concern for the NFL is more about everything but the game IMO. They don't want all these :moneybag: fans to not attend all the pre-game events in the days prior, and they don't want them sitting in a foot of snow.

It's like, well- it's like trying to play hockey indoors. What the hell!!??

Something tells me they'll manage.

Everybody loves the Super Bowl, and everybody loves football in the snow, yet somehow everyone hates the idea of a Super Bowl played in the snow. delayed/postponed because a huge blizzard hits the area and all the highways and airports are paralyzed which is a regular occurrence in the region.
FYP

Oh, I get that. I'm just confused by all the internet folks who won't be within 500 miles of the stadium complaining about it.

Meh, I'm a Giants season ticket holder and live ~30 minutes from the stadium. I wouldn't say it's a "regular occurrence" in the region. No one here seems to be especially worried about it.

The NFL has contingency plans, of course, just like they have contingency plans for every Super Bowl ever. The biggest issue to me with hosting a Super Bowl in NJ isn't so much the weather, it's that the stadium is kind of in no man's land so all the events leading up to game day are presumably going on in NYC or elsewhere. It doesn't have the same feel as a Super Bowl that's hosted in an actual city.

I'll watch it whenever it's on and probably won't care much one way or the other. I'm just surprised that it's in NY given the risks and knowing all of the events surrounding it, the corporate entities that will be there, and the travel/hotel concerns. I think it was dumb to schedule it up there. That is all.

All expenses paid trip to Sochi, plus one night with a decent hooker paid for...... or ........free NJ SB tickets and lodging (but you pay for own transportation)? You can pick neither.

Now imagine all the hyped up forecasts heading into Super Bowl weekend- say they are forecasting a horrible storm with 18 inches of snow, so they postpone the SB to Monday, and the forecast was wrong- OR--

imagine they downplay the forecast and we have a repeat of Eagles/ Lions surprise blizzard out of nowhere..

I hope it snows like a muther####er!

I'm headed to Vegas next Thursday with a flight out on Monday. There will be hundreds of thousands of people flying out on Monday missing the game. The Vegas books stand to lose a boatload on wagers not placed.
