Super Bowl XLVIII - Date could move.... (1 Viewer)

The solution is really simple, build a big domed stadium in Las Vegas.

It has the appropriate number of hotel rooms to accommodate the fans. It has a decent infrastructure of taxis, trolleys and shuttles to get people around. I have been there a ton of times and the airport is easy to get in and out of, They have a large selection of rent a cars.

No worry about the weather.

I know the league wouldn't like the whole gambling aspect of it, but come on, next to March Madness, this has to be one of the biggest wagered on event out there.
That would be amazing.
yep.

Vegas would be insane if they did this.... oh my...
I thought Vegas couldn't offer lines on any sporting event in the state of Nevada. Or did they change that rule?

Don't know. I know a LOT of UFC events go off in Vegas and I'm pretty sure there is wagering allowed on them, but not sure.

Great idea. In lieu of getting an NFL team, Vegas should be the permanent home of the SB. Build a 100,000+ seat enormodome.

Somehow fightng got a carveout. No idea why. I've bet on a fight while in the concourse of the actual event.

Why a dome?
So it can be used year round for other things. When it gets to 115 decrees in the summer, you can sit in nice air-condition seats to see other events.
You mean like they already have in Arizona? Why re-invent the wheel?

because of the two things vegas has that Arizona doesn't, #### and gambling.

I would prefer the SB & the college NC game both be on Saturday.

30 degrees an 10% chance of snow, says the 10 Day forecast.

And a weeks worth of insane parties in the biggest city in the country.

What is the opposite of nightmare? That's what it's gonna be.
There is no such thing as a 5 day forecast in this area, never mind a 10 day. I don't even trust the 3 Day forecast.

Yeah, 10 day forecasts are simply saying what the pattern is favorable. If there is a chance of snow, it'll be shown as 30% or less right now. The pattern is currently set up for favorable conditions for a possible winter storm in that time frame. But it could happen near that day or on that day. Or the system may not materialize at all. But this far out, all they are saying is that the pattern is favorable for a possible storm that day. Won't be able to say one way or another for sure until about 2 to 3 days out, unless there is zero chance.

A good example was this past storm the NE had. Conditions were favorable and signs showed it might happen, but the actual forecast wasn't finalized until the night before.

there are tons of casinos in arizona

The NFL & NCAA probably don't want the big games on a Friday or Saturday because people would probably be watching the game at a bar & not glued to the TV during the commercials.

No, the host cities would lose a day of hotel and restaurant sales.

You do have ASU and UA sluts though. Let then not have to travel and ply their wares back home instead for one weekend. Everyone wins.

They just had an outdoor hockey game in New York, in weather much, much colder than predicted for Sunday.

Amazingly, the wheels didn't fall off, and people went to the game.

And there's another game taking place Wednesday, starting at 7:30. And it will be colder than yesterday.

I'm going and I'm very excited.

I am going as well, GB. Haven't been to the new stadium yet, looking forward to seeing it.

I'm much more partial to Citi Field in terms of overall feel of the new parks...you can say I'm biased because I'm a Mets fan, but since I hate the team, I think that evens it out.

From friends who were there yesterday, viewing angles seemed pretty good overall as long as you weren't too low down. I lucked into some great seats but should be fun for everyone. There will also likely be plenty of open seats to move around for a better look.

I've been to some football games at Yankee Stadium and this seems better set up.

To be fair....I think you're comparing apples and oranges. It's safe to say that the fan bases at this game will be very different from the dooshnozzleesque crew of wine sippers at the superbowl. All it takes is one trip to a superbowl to realize what the NFL is all about. I have ZERO desire to ever go back to a superbowl ever again.

The similarities they DO have is that they are 'events'. And the Super Bowl trumps the heck out of an outdoor NHL game.

Thus far, it seems like weather won't be much of a factor. I think it's going to be a massive success, and New York might have another one in ten years or so. I think Seattle will get one.

I don't understand anyone that wouldn't be rooting for crazy weather, actually. So many great winter games through the years.

Is New York getting one after the New Jersey game?
