Survivor Cagayan (2 Viewers)

It looks like the discussion we had a few weeks before was correct on that idol. Just like I thought before, it is way too powerful and honestly, too easy to find. Finding these idols with virtually no clues is getting silly and almost makes you wonder if producers "help" people find them. Who else would cause so much controversy with it, right, Tony. Who else will piss off enough of his own alliance that he will blindside them when they blindside him, right, Tony. #blindsidetheblindside

Oh well, this has been a solid season, but this new idol, while it may make for great TV, is really going to suck.

Onto the episode, I really thought Spencer had read them correctly and was going to give the idol to Jeremiah. When he paused before giving it to Jeff and turned around, I thought he was going to hand it back to Jeremiah. I know for his own safety it wouldn't make sense, but it seemed obvious that him mentioning the idol didn't elicit the reaction if the alliance had voted for him. It looked like from the preview that maybe Spencer might get in Tony's ear, but based on the reaction, giving the idol to Jeremiah was probably the best chance to get the upper hand. A lot easier to swing Jeffra when she knows that she is part of the larger alliance. She can't stand Tony, but making it 4-4 wasn't a guaranteed way to stay in the game.
But they wouldn't get the upper hand. Even if he gave it to Jeremiah and Woo went home, it's still 4 vs 3.

Which is why he had to play it for himself. Using the idol for the team is only good when it moves your team into the power position. When Jefra didn't go with them, Spencer had to use it on himself.

Can't blame Spencer for using the idol on himself but if he had passed it over and Woo goes home then it would be a whole new ball game. Joffra would be likely to join the three as she would now be on the side with numbers. The key would then be whether Tony spills it about having an idol or at least avoiding trying to vote him out the following tribal and voting Kass instead.

If Spencer give the idol to Jeremy, this would have been a great tribal tonight.

Tony is getting cocky. "Fake idol" and all, c'mon. Why even show it at all. Someone has to question his motives and game play. Spencer told four other people tonight that his vote is for Tony as did Tasha. That should wake some of the others up... but it won't.
I had the same initial reaction. I thought "he just has to brag". But then I thought about it some more and I think it was a good move. He wanted Spencer to think it was an idol. He wanted Spencer to see it before Spencer played his idol. The thought is that if Spencer guessed correctly (ie gave it to Jeremiah) that Tony had an idol in his back pocket that he could use to try and counter that play by playing it himself. It didn't make sense at the time, but it made sense later.

Now, what Tony didn't factor in was that they were voting out Woo so it wouldn't have mattered. But I think I get the idea behind why he did what he did.

The special idol is a complete game changer, especially for this season where no one knows it exists and can plan against it.
It's BS. Tony skates to the final 3 now. Spencer blew that idol play buy what are you going to do in his position.
Only way tony ####s this up is if he tells people about it and they vote to force him to play it. He should tell no one!!! I will say is fake idol move today was balsy.
Keeping a normal idol secret, sure. But this one? No way. Its so incredibly powerful that the mere knowing it exists both protects Tony until whenever it's no longer useful, but also it gives him control of the votes. I'd not only tell everyone about it, I'd be strutting around camp with that thing around my neck.
That would be a dumb thing to do IMO. Everyone in camp would simply vote for him. Trish and Woo and Jefra would be safe because Tony will vote for either Tash or Spencer. So after the idol is burned by Tony, one of those two would be out. Then Woo and Trish don't have to worry about Tony and his special idol any more, and their alliance is back to normal.
Why would Spencer and Tash vote for Tony if everyone knew he had the idol? So they would go home? No way. They vote 1 of the 4, probably Woo. The 4 would realize this and figure out they cannot vote Tony. This idol is too powerful, especially if people know about. The only way possible is after next week and one of Spencer or Tash is left and they all vote Tony and leave the last 2 votes as a 1-1 tie after Tony plays his idol and then vote Tash or Spencer out, but I don't see that happening.
If im spencer, and i know he has this, its an easy way to turn the others by saying we cant win unless we flush this idol out. No way id mention it. will be interesting to see how it is played.
You can't flush out this idol unless you have a ridiculous numbers advantage. At 8, you'd have to have every person outside of Tony and the other target involved. So, you'd need to form a brand new alliance of 6 that holds through 2 votes just to get Tony out. That just isn't going to happen.

So if Spencer gave the idol to Jeremiah, does Tony give his idol to woo after the votes are read to save a member of his alliance, or does he sit quiet, keep his idol and be satisfied with the 4-3 advantage?

I think he sits quiet, but the opinion of him among his alliance would definitely go up if he sacrificed his all powerful idol for Woo and his alliance. He also risks losing Woo's jury vote if Woo finds out later that

Tony could have saved him but didn't.

I thought I heard, when Tony was reading the rules of the idol, that he could not give it to anyone else. Maybe I'm mistaken, but I think he can only use it for himself.

Sorry, my point was that if they got rid of Woo, it is now 4-4 and Jeffra would have flopped like she intended to do, but didn't because her flop still was only 4-4. If she was part of a 4-3 advantage with Spencer, Tasha and Jeremiah, she would have already flopped. She doesn't like Tony, was really in tight with LJ and would have been happy to flop if she knew they had numbers.

That said, even a 4-3 advantage isn't safe because Tony has that idol, so they have to get down to 4-2 to flush it. That said, I think they would assume Tony has an idol and vote Kass/Trish first to be safe knowing that once at 4-2, they can split votes in case of an idol.

Anyway, maybe it was just me, but when Spencer played the idol it seemed obvious that they didn't look concerned, so I was hoping that Spencer saw that and when he turned around to talk smack that he would then hand it to Jeremiah. Spencer may be safe this week and he would have even without playing it, but I still think that was his one shot to turn the game back around. For whatever reason, the other alliance was 90% sure that Spencer had it and not Jeremiah and I was hoping Spencer picked up on that before tribal and made a big move. He is still technically alive, but he is in a big hole without a HII.

Correct, that was one of the rules. It could only be used for the person that found it. Otherwise, it would be even more ridiculous.

To piggy back on this, I almost think that Tony was trying to portray that he was nervous about Spencer playing the idol on himself when he pulled out the 'fake idol'. With the hope that Spencer would do exactly what he did and play it on himself instead of Jeremiah.

That said, I still wouldn't blame Spencer for playing it on himself there. Getting it wrong like he did, at least he's still in the game. If he had guessed wrong and given it to Jeremiah and gotten voted out, that would rank pretty highly on a list of Survivor blunders.

I don't think it would rank highly. As it is now, he is down 4-2 with no HII. If he guessed right and gave it to Jeremiah, I think a Jeffra flop or heck, Tony flop would have been very easy and then they are back in control of the game. The only way a guess wrong goes highly on a list of blunders is when you have no reason not to play it for yourself, i.e. the big guy who got voted off with 2 idols in his pocket or Eric who was 100% on the block without the immunity necklace. Sure, he could guess wrong, but it was pretty obvious that Tony's crew knew he had the idol and voted that way. It is hard to be completely objective because we viewers knew that Jeremiah was most likely their vote, so we already knew what Spencer should have done. While I can say he might have read that play, he obviously didn't and in the game maybe I wouldn't have either. That said, had he given it to Jeremiah and guessed wrong, I would have understood it was a good play to try and take the game knowing that the other alliance was more likely to think he had the idol.

As I see it now, if Kass or Jefra want to get to the finals and have a chance, they should flip now.

Jefra: Is likable and already has 3 friends on the jury. Her alliance will not take her to the finals

Kass: Tony, Woo, and Trish seem pretty tight and would all seem pretty comfortable sitting next to each other in the finals. While Kass is not liked, I don't think the other 3 will take her.

If Jefra and Kass flip now, they join Tasha and Spencer as an alliance of 4 vs the other 3. As long as they don't try to take out Tony with his powerful HII they can take out Woo or Trish. Kass and Jefra

could then convince Tasha to flip on Spencer because he has played the game very well and you do not want him to make it to the finals.

I've been thinking for awhile now Tony is getting the winner edit. He'd be pretty dumb to tell anyone he has the special idol. Just play as if you don't have it. Pull it out if they blindside you.

There's one thing I still don't understand about the special Immunity idol.

Let's say last night goes down as follows:

Tony, Woo, Trish and Kass vote Jeremiah.

Jeremiah, Spencer Tash and Jefra vote Tony.

Before the votes are read, Spencer plays his idol for Jeremiah. Votes for Jeremiah don't count.

Total is 4 votes for Tony. Tony pulls out his immunity idol.

Who goes home? Would this be a revote with Tash, Jeremiah and Tony immune?

Has anyone mentioned that the Special Immunity Idol sucks?

ETA: changes Spencer to Jeremiah in who is immune cause I'm an idiot.

Kass is actually pretty smart, at this point she just needs to orchestrate a Woo blindside and she could easily be up there with Trish and Tony

He's done a couple of things right, but Tony's more or less an idiot. Showing the idol at that particular moment was a curious move. Like the cop thing, he just can't help himself.

The things he's done right involved getting rid of stronger/better guys, so it shouldn't be that hard for Kass to get him to turn on Woo.

I was thinking about this last night. My gut says revote among who's left.

Special Immunity idol is kinda bad but not too bad. They've had it before. I just wish they'd go back to some of the other old things that really shook up the game, like, schoolyard pick for teams and the pecking-order assignment of who gets to eat good food thing.

I still cannot find a reason that Tony should keep it hidden.

Tony keeps it hidden:

Let's say they vote off Spencer and Tash the next 2 tribals leaving the group as the final 5. They then decide to blindside Tony. 4 vote for Tony and Tony votes for Woo. Tony plays his idol and Woo goes home. Next tribal, Kass, Jefra and Trish can now vote Tony out and he can do nothing to stop it.

Tony reveals his Idol:

Let's say they vote off Spencer and Tash the next 2 tribals leaving the group as the final 5. They think about voting Tony to get rid of the Idol, but then one of them would be going home. So only 3 must conspire to vote Tony, but then need Tony to vote for not one of the 3. This gets very complicated. They will not vote Tony as there is too much danger in going home yourself.

The real power of this idol is to prevent anyone from voting for you at all.

It's kinda weird how a guy who's so willing he almost seems eager to swear on his badge and his family's lives in order to carry out a deceit, can't keep his big fat piehole shut when he gets just a little excited

Dude is terrible, I will be irritated if he wins. I can't imagine he'll have many friends on that jury when it's all over, but Trish, Kass and Jefra aren't likable either, and Woo doesn't really play the game.

Sad to say but out of that crew I would root for Kass.

Yes, I believe they revote with Tash, Jeremiah and Tony immune. Spencer would then be the one in trouble and probably going home on the revote.

What is missing is those challenges where everyone gets a turn to chop someones rope and they all have 3 ropes. These types of reward challenges really start to reveal to the players whoare on the bottom of an alliance.

I think there's definitely a case for saying, yep I've got it, do your worst, but the way he pulled it out last night just makes him seem like an ####### who again is more interested in lying and stirring up drama than doing something that makes sense

Tony is setting himself up for a guaranteed returning player spot if he doesn't win. Spencer, Jefra and Kass will probably reappear too.

Really? Jefra is awful. Agree on Tony, Kass and Spencer, who seems like a lock for fan fave.

What was Jeremiah's deal? :lmao: I've got something to tell you guys... I'm a fashion model!

If he tells they will all gang up on him to flush it out. Then vote him out as soon as possible. Idk as dumb as some of them have played so far, maybe not.

Tony desperately needs an idol. We see him scrambling into the forest. Voila! He finds an idol hidden in the dirt.

This just smacks of producer tampering. They wouldn't do that on this show, would they?

I don't think there's any tampering. These people are all fans of the show and know where the show usually hides them. We have no way of knowing just how big the area is that they are in.

As far as Tony, at first I thought he was an idiot who was only doing good because he was getting lucky from his dumb moves. But over time, all of his moves seem to be working out for him. So I thought, maybe he actually is smarter than I give him credit for. But I'm back on believing he's just playing dumb and receiving a lot of dumb luck.

I hope he doesn't win. He's an idiot. I think maybe from inside, people think he may be smarter than he is, too. But after watching this, they'll realize he's a moron.

I'm not making a bet, but I'm fairly confident that he'll end up losing the game because of something he does. One of these dumb moves will eventually catch up to him.

That special idol looses a lot of power once it's not a secret anymore. And there's no doubt Tony can't keep this to himself.

The idols have to be near landmarks if you want them found, and there are only going to be so many landmarks between common points of interest. Plus, they cant be too deep or too high, else they're never found. The producers WANT them found, so they're not going to make finding an idol too difficult. So considering you have people out there all day with little better to do, its a wonder they're ever concealed long enough for a clue to matter.

That special idol looses a lot of power once it's not a secret anymore. And there's no doubt Tony can't keep this to himself.
The special idol looses the power to eliminate basically whoever you want when its known, but its deterrent power is so much greater than a regular idol that it essentially removes the target from your back. See Yul.

It seems in the past all idols have to be played by the time it gets down to 5.
This is correct, there is always that last one chance to get rid of a guy where they can't play and idol. So if Tony wins immunity at 4 he is in if memory serves that is what JT did he was pretty invulnerable and then won his way to the million. Malcolm was doing it as well and couldn't hold two sticks together and the other three took him out on the 4 vote.

FWIW Tony has been getting he winner edit. Spencer has been getting the good guy edit and Cass is getting the also ran edit.

It's not the he is getting lucky he is a total dumb ###. The problem is he is the king of the morons. Woo, Trish and Jeffra are three of the dumbest players I have seen in a while. Think about it we are down to 6 players and Woo Trish and Jefra have made ZERO strategy decisions they are happy Tony is making decisions for them because they are incapable of making decisions themselves.

Winning order

Spencer beats all comers

Tasha

Tony

But (and this will never happen) but what happens if they whack Spencer and Tasha then when it gets down to 4 Tony loses immunity and they vote him out who wins this mess?

Woo, Trish Jefra- Cass Trish Jefra - etc etc

Can you imagine the moronic ramblings of Jefra and Trish justifying why they should win?

So I thought, maybe he actually is smarter than I give him credit for. But I'm back on believing he's just playing dumb and receiving a lot of dumb luck.

I hope he doesn't win. He's an idiot. I think maybe from inside, people think he may be smarter than he is, too. But after watching this, they'll realize he's a moron.

I'm not making a bet, but I'm fairly confident that he'll end up losing the game because of something he does. One of these dumb moves will eventually catch up to him.
This is a very good point. I'm really pulling for Spencer. Mainly because he's not a ##### like Tony. But also because he's had the hardest road to get here so far. It's true though, aside from Tony and Spencer, the rest of the cast are just extras, really.

ETA: Hmmm... I didn't know that was a disallowed word now. Not even sure why it is.

So what exactly was the clue that got Tony to dig near that tree? Felt really fake.
Seems like the producers told him where it was hidden. But he didn't get any clues... just figured it was hidden near a sort of land mark... a weird looking tree or something. He digs and viola. It's his.
I felt like it was staged.

Trish reeled in Kass and was the one that made the Cliff vote happen. She's certainly made a significant strategic impact.

Tony desperately needs an idol. We see him scrambling into the forest. Voila! He finds an idol hidden in the dirt.

This just smacks of producer tampering. They wouldn't do that on this show, would they?
. Somebody on here said that producers will talk to players before tribal. See where they're voting. Talk to them about strategy, alliances, and what their best play is. Wouldn't be all that surprising for somebody to give Tony a hint.

If I'm Tony and I'm searching for an idol and there's no cameras on me after a few minutes, I'm moving on. Once he started looking around that tree and the cameraman never left. That's a giveaway that he was getting close. I don't believe Tony was smart enough to figure this out though.

I can agree with that. Trish had a impact but I don't think Cass had to be reeled in too much, she was jumping ship anyways and really hated Sarah.

I doubt it was even a consideration by Trish and more of a group think, we need to get a flip alliance thing. I would bet she doesn't even bring that up as a selling point.

Well, someone needed to approach her and taking a look at that tribe, she was probably the only one that could have done it.

Sheik makes a good point, both these last 2 idols required someone to actually dig for something. The others were hidden in underwater recesses. It's not like they're just "in a hole in the big tree" any more.
