Big WR changes coming to Seattle: TJ Houshmanzadeh will be out and Mike Williams will be in.

The Seattle Seahawks will cut ties with T.J. Houshmandzadeh by trading or releasing him, according to two league sources, and it will promote former Detroit first-round draft pick Mike Williams into its starting lineup for a Sept. 12 game against San Francisco.

The 32-year-old Houshmanzadeh caught 79 passes last season and will be a bargain for another team this season.

His Seahawks contract includes offset language that makes Seattle liable to pay Houshmanzadeh whatever his new team doesn't.

So if Houshmanzadeh were to sign a veteran minimum deal of $850,000, the Seahawks would be liable for the remaining $6.15 million balance.

Seattle signed Houshmanzadeh to a five-year, $40 million contract last offseason, and Seattle will wind up having paid him $15 million for his one season with the Seahawks.

Meanwhile, the 32-year-old Houshmanzadeh's departure means that Williams' story becomes one of the best and unlikeliest of the summer.

He has gone from a player that nobody wanted to a wide receiver that now will start with the Seahawks under his former college head coach Pete Carroll.

Williams will start likely opposite Deion Branch, with Deon Butler and Golden Tate as reserves.

And the Seahawks moves are not done. They also are likely to pursue quarterback Patrick Ramsey, whom New Orleans released Friday. If Seattle landed him, it likely would have to get rid of another quarterback.

is housh that bad? i realize he declined a bit last yr but he had 79 catches while playing thru nagging injuries with middling qb play. hard to believe he has suddenly lost his ability to be a viable nfl wr.

Age, Money, new regime. Pretty standard stuff. Seahawks are going nowhere.Best thing that could have happened to him. Plenty of teams will be calling.

Wow, in a deep keeper, BMW is sitting on our wire. I would have to drop Hines Ward to get him though. Not sure if I can do it.............. UGH........

I am rooting for BMW though.......

Even if true VJax still has a suspension to fulfill which means BMW has an opportunity in a situation where it already looks like he is clicking well with Hass.

If they were going to have to pay him anyway, why not keep him on the roster?Well, I guess he hasn't been released yet. But, it still seems strange to eat the $15 million bill for 1 year of service.

If they were going to have to pay him anyway, why not keep him on the roster? Paul Allen doesn't mind throwing money away?
housh is distraction and they have youngsters to develop at the position. in the interest of the franchise for him to be out.

really? Is he a diva? I really have no idea, I thought he was a hard worker...

$15 million mistake. Brutal.

where do you think he will go? chargers and vikes just addressed needs. mebbe the rams, but will that be an acceptable situation? raiders mebbe.

Has to mean they're paving the way for VJax. Doesnt make any sense otherwise.
I agree. This is silly-talk unless Jackson is coming over.
why? housh is a cancer and wasnt helping much on the field anyway.addition by subtraction
I admit I am not all that up to speed on the Seattle situation and I did not realize Housh was that much of a cancer. I do know he is talented though, and to just drop him and but BMW in his place just looks a bit strange from an outsider looking in.

What's BMW's ranking now? As many of us probably have a guy on our bench we can drop - anyone have any numbers they think he may see this year?

really? Is he a diva? I really have no idea, I thought he was a hard worker...
this is standard media manipulation by a team and the nfl. housh had a fine reputation for years but all of a sudden it is taken for granted that he is a huge negative locker room presence. color me skeptical.

How has BMW looked this preseason? Any homers have comments?
Stat wise : 10 177 17.7 51 1 He's in great shape, and has done great after the catch, but it's preseason.Edit: Deon Butler is the player people should be drafting imo.

considering cinci didn't want him and that they now have pacman and owens - it says alot about his character when you think about it. i didn't really know either until i heard it on the audiable last night.

Difference of opinion from Adam Caplan

Expect Housh to stay — 3:50 p.m.

While rumors persist that the Seattle Seahawks are trying to move WR T.J. Houshmandzadeh, a personnel source said two things will prevent that from happening.

Houshmandzadeh’s entire $7 million base salary is guaranteed for 2010. And as the source points out, Houshmandzadeh plays primarily in the slot, and guaranteeing that kind of money to an inside receiver is too steep of a price to pay.

Houshmandzadeh is slated to make $8 million in 2011, but that salary is not guaranteed, so he could be released next year if the team isn’t happy with him.

So, this is a good reminder to take "he's listed as WR# or RB that" during pre season & camp with a dose of skepticism.

Lottery Ticket is paying off, go BMW!

no it says nothing about his character. this post, however, says something about your logic skills. cinci didnt want him bc they didnt want to pay him a ton of dough bc they are a notoriously cheap franchise and already spent a large chunk on ocho the year before. the reason cinci signs idiots is bc they can do so for super cheap.

Vikings?

'Housh' to Minnesota?

08:22 AM ET 09.03 | He may be hard to move, but that doesn't mean Seattle won't try, and is there a fit in Minneapolis? The Vikings lost out in their pursuit of free agent T.J. Houshmandzadeh in March 2009 when the veteran wide receiver decided to sign a five-year, $40 million deal with Seattle that included $15 million in guarantees. Now it appears the Vikings could have another shot at Houshmandzadeh -- if they are interested. The Seahawks are actively shopping Houshmandzadeh, according to NFL sources. ... Seattle is believed to be trying to unload Houshmandzadeh because it would like an opportunity to clear salary space to potentially add disgruntled San Diego wide receiver Vincent Jackson in a trade.

Except that they paid Antonio Bryant A LOT for essentially nothing.

John Clayton confirms on local radio, saying this is about the Seahawks giving the younger guys a chance and that X will be the stater opposite Branch. No mention of Jackson.

Washington could use Houshmandzadeh with all there WR troubles.
As much as he would help them they would be wasting their time & $ with a guy this old. They aren't going anywhere. Snyder of course, doesn't realize that yet so they could pay him.

they payed him (and coles) a lot less than housh. both got 4 yrs for 28m with approx 7m guaranteed. housh got 5 for 40 with 15 guaranteed.
