I picked Golden over Demaryius today at 9th overall in a contract league where 5 years is the max (though you can tag at a high salary after it expires). My team is full of "undersized" guys like Ray Rice, MJD and Desean.... so he's a good fit
I have watched plenty of video of Tate and what I see is a football player making a ton of productive football plays. I think he will surprise beyond the consensus. He may not run the 4.4 Steve Smith (Carolina) out of college but it won’t be much slower. Tate has plenty toughness. Needs to improve on his route running.
That's what I'm talking about. I was initially concerned about the hands/body trapping but have concluded that it's overblown and he's shown enough in going up for the ball that he has adequate hands at least. And according to Michael Irvin, you're supposed to body catch the ball in traffic or when expecting contact *shrug*. I think I see instances where Tate's body catching is a specific technique to secure the ball and get some YAC.
you had to be impressed seeing the golden tate i mean jimmy claussen highlights they've shown over the last few weeks. they show the same clausses plays over and over again and they're all to tate and he's always doing something that makes you go 'WOW.' like the completely cutting across the field play after catching it on the left sideline.
I had been operating under the assumption that he would run in the 4.5 range. 4.42 is a good time. To me it means he has a realistic chance of becoming a successful starter in the NFL. He's not on the same plane as Dez Bryant or Demaryius Thomas as a prospect, but in a thin draft class that lacks high end talent at the position, he could be a candidate for the WR3 spot.
He still looked terrible catching the ball today. Fought almost every pass from what i saw and his gauntlet was downright pathetic. Was a knock on him coning in that he drops a number of easy passes.
He is still new to the position. He never played WR until he arrived at ND 3 years ago. It is something to monitor of course, but I am willing to give him some time to learn the position. He made huge strides in the last two seasons at the WR position.
imo you either have natural hands or you don't. he doesn't imo. i'm sure he can get better but he strikes me as someone who will always have problems catching the ball cleanly away from his body.
He caught a couple short passes but wasn't able to do anything with em. Branch started and got a lot of early looks from Hasselbeck. Golden was in the slot as soon as they went to a 3WR set but wasn't targeted in that role. He had 1 drop (maybe it was tipped/jarred) and overall wasn't very impressive. I'll be at the next preseason game against the Packers though, so hopefully he makes more of his opportunities then.
