Tampa Bay Bucs thread: back to back to back to back NFC South Champs (2 Viewers)

Mike Evans last year of his deal,
Mkt Value: $23M

What do the Bucs do? Is it time to find a trade partner or is a Mikey a Buccaneer for life?

Shaq Barrett, time to find a trade partner even if you don't get a lot for him. $23M cap hit but just $6.7M cap hit to get rid of him June 1st, I would cut him and save the $15M, move on.

And finally, the only other person over $10M a year on the roster is Devin Bush who is playing his 5th Year team option at $11M, would like to see them find an extension for him

Trading Mike and Shaq are tank moves. Bowles/Licht aren't going to survive a tanked season, so I doubt you see anything like that. Shaq is also coming off an Achilles injury, so who is trading much of anything for him?

Devin White is a splash play guy that Bowles schemes up splash plays for. He's not a sound linebacker instinctually. He's bad in coverage. Takes poor angles. Tackles high. I'd like to see them let him walk.

But, you're not wrong. This is very much a transitional year with some of the veteran players being in the last years of their deals.

I understand your POV and logic, it makes sense.
But if I owned the team i would tell them to cut Shaq June 1st and join me on our journey into the future.
Bucs need to be thinking QB in the '24 Draft, they're likely going to lose many games this year with Baker Mayfield
Should focus on retooling the OL and Front-7 on Defense although these days it'r more like a Front 6 with so many DBs and WRs on the field.

Devon Achane RB, TeXas A&M
5-8, 188
4.32 40 time at the combine, that's really fast.

Dunn ran between 4.28 and 4.35
Listed at 5-9, Achane is a half inch shorter, weight almost identical

You have Baker Mayfield, going to need a 1-2 punch at RB like they haven't had in a while
60-120 range in the draft, Bucs have the 82nd Pick in the 3rd.
I wish they would give Trask an opportunity. I think he would surprise a lot of people.

Didn’t he get beat out by Blaine Gabbart as Brady’s backup?

Trask looks good in camp so far. Not that it means anything, or that I expect him to do well this year, but beats the alternative I guess. Still think Baker wins the job which sucks.

@Anarchy99 called us the Browns back in 2020. I guess he ended up being right.
Lol I forgot about that. Wish I could post the gif of Brady raising the Lombardi trophy.
Or how about a Gif of him throwing the Trophy to Gronk between boats on the parade, that was classic

Not much optimism about what they are doing this year, hate the head coach, love him as a DC
Snoozefest 2023
2024-Rebuild
2025 More Rebuild
2026...if they can find a QB in the draft, this is when they might get a little more interesting.

Not much optimism, but I’m interested in turning the page. Defense should still be good. Excited to see a more modern offense.

Schedule isn’t tough. Division is wide open.

2026? Lol give me a break. The team has plenty of talent, especially on defense. They have excellent young players on every level of D. This is not a rebuild, it’s an effort to find a QB.

2024 QB class is supposedly stacked. I’m excited to see what Baker can do though. If it doesn’t work they’ve set themselves up to get their guy in April.

If that's the case then they should have made a bigger move at QB
Wasted year if you feel this team is loaded except at QB
Maybe you're right

Zero cap space. Absorbed the Brady cap hit this year. Can’t just magically order a QB off Amazon.

I think the defense is relatively loaded but the offense can merely be good.

haha. baker is past done. i think they tank this year and try for one of the really good qbs in the draft

Zero chance they intentionally tank. The division sucks and more importantly Bowles will be fired the day after the season ends. He’s not going to tank so some other coach can succeed.

Now maybe baker and Trask are so bad they just end up being awful but it won’t be deliberate.

There’s a pretty good chance they’re 0-4 heading into their bye. Even if they’re trying to win. It would be fairly shocking if they win more than 5 games in 23.

Lot of play action and misdirection, looking like they are going to protect the QB.

R. White will get a lot of catches. I don't see either of these QBs throwing down the field on the regular.

Trask looked pretty good last night. When he is able to stand in the pocket and let it rip he looks the part. Baker probably wins the job but I imagine we see Trask at some point due to failure or injury. Something to look forward to.

I don’t think this team is going to be bad.

I don’t think this team is going to be bad.

You're better than Carolina. I think. :oldunsure:

They're awful. The Jets' second team beat them 27-0, and they had their starters in the first quarter. Just woeful. It was a curbstomp all game, and we had all eleven starters on the defensive side of the ball sitting. And only the OL starting.

Baker Mayfield has thrown more interceptions than any starting QB over the last 3-4-5 years.
I believe it's close to 70 Interceptions and turnovers are absolute game killers
We saw it first hand with Winston, think the Bucs are going to lose the turnover battle this season, safe prediction

I don’t think they’ll be bad enough to get the first pick unless they’re ravaged by injuries. They’re as good or better than any other team in the NFC South.

The 2024 QB class looks loaded. They can draft one from anywhere.

Caleb Williams, USC
Jordan Travis, FSU

Which one do we want Baker to lose 13-14 games so we can go draft the future in Tampa Bay?
Isn’t gonna happen man. Sorry.

Not only are they relatively talented but they play in a horrid division and they have the Texans and Bears on the schedule. That’s possibly 3-4 wins right there.

You're underselling Baker Mayfield
He can't hold on to the football, gives it away to the opposition.
He can't hold on to $12,000.000.00
He can't win football games.
Add in Todd Bowles and I think there's a recipe for disaster ahead
What's the point in going 7-10, just do it right and be in the mix for an upgrade at QB next year.
Whirfs is something build the OL around
A rookie QB with an arm and some skills would do well immediately on this team.

Playing against bums but you can’t beat how Baker has looked this preseason. Very curious to see how he does.
The offense is certainly QB friendly. Modern running attack instead of the plow straight ahead BS from last year. Boots and waggles with layers of receiving options.

Canales looks the part.

They won the division last year scoring 18 points a game.
I’m already afraid of losing Canales and he hasn’t coached a real game yet lol

I don't see any way that the Bucs lose more games than the Cardinals.

Rewatching the game now and just love all the motion. Play action. RPOs. Moving the QB around. Shifting the pocket. Structure and sequencing on those TD drives was great.

Yes, against backups, but it looked easy. Trask’s drive was with backup weapons.

I agree. There are weapons on offense so it should be competitive.

Jesus, Baker has been amazing so far.
He just looks really comfortable. Things are on schedule. His timing has been great. There were several money throws today released before the WR made their break.

And then when things aren’t on schedule he just makes freaking plays. Multiple completions today that were ALL Baker making something happen on his own.

I’m stoked.

With the run game getting on track and the defense playing really well, def excited about the season.

Big test next week!

Well the Eagles are clearly two cuts ahead of the Bucs but so far I feel good about Baker?? Wasn’t expecting to say that but he’s been maybe our best player so far. I think they can win 9 games and maybe the division.

Those boys were next level physical in the trenches. Good ol fashioned whoopin.
Licht takes a lot of pride in both sides of the line — he has to be taking it pretty hard how they were dominated last night. They were ok the first two weeks but when they went up in weight they got killed.

Guys like Hall and JTS were just total whiffs. Hall is unplayable. I think the oline can improve as Mauch and Goedeke get more reps.

He has spent multiple 1st-3rd round picks on the lines without much to show for it.

The schedule really is soft for the Bucs

They got a Bye week, then Detroit and Atlanta visit Tampa Bay for a hot n humid 1:00 affair both weeks, that's a big advantage for the Bucs
They got some road games including SF and Buffalo but most teams lose to those guys, you can't gauge your whole season just based on a couple road games vs Elite
But then even with road trips they have a strong chane of winning games the rest of the season where the point spreads are likely to be very thin or the needle might point in the direction of the Bucs

I'm surprised and still underwhelmed vs what we had a few years ago but they might win the NFC South and host a Playoff game, that means Todd Bowles likely to be retained
That makes me sad, he's limited in his thinking when it involves the offense.

Agreed about Bowles. I was hopeful last year but he showed me that he is just not head coach material. Offensively, the Bucs are better this year but they still lack creativity. Is that on Canales or Bowles?

I’m not sure that’s necessarily true.

They’ve had several plays that obviously look completely different. Godwin’s play to get inside the 5 on 3rd down in the 4th quarter was completely schemed open.

They may not look like an offensive juggernaut yet, but there’s definitely more creativity than there was during the Arians/Leftwich years.

Bowles’ defenses have been great. I think he may finally have a complimentary play caller on the other side.

Lot of people buried this team because Tom left. Baker is making plays Tom couldn’t dream of making last year.
