Tampa Bay Mike Williams... (1 Viewer)

Fighting the urge to bid on DHB, dropping Tampa Mike. 5 weeks of crap production (ok, week 1 wasn't crap) in my lineup. I'm worried I'll keep trotting him out there if he's on my roster. Stupid me.
I'd like to offer some advise to Tampa Mike owners. The #1 thing you do NOT do in FF is overreact. The #2 thing you do is look at track record then project forward.QBaWeek 1: 280 yards 1TD 3Int 2Fumble LostWeek 2: 298 yards 1TDWeek 3: 364 yards 1TD 1Int 2Fumble LostWeek 4: 206 yards 0TD 1IntQBbWeek 1: 259 yards 1TD 1IntWeek 2: 243 yards 1TD 1Int 1RushTDWeek 3: 180 yards 0TD 2Int 1RushTDWeek 4: 287 yards 1TDLook at these two QBs for example. I would assert that QBb has slightly out performed QBa. I have even heard that people were dropping QBa. Can you guess who they are? QBa is Big Ben. QBb is Freeman. Although Big Ben has a much bigger track record, he also struggled for 4 weeks before breaking out in week 5. My point is to illustrate the need to overreact. Freeman and Tampa Mike are not on the same page. But you could have said the same thing about Big Ben's offensive line along with playing on two bum feet. Now that Tampa has bottomed out, I expect them to improve starting week 6.
I don't think that you can compare Ben's slow start to Freeman's.Big Ben has a much proven track record and more talent on offense than Freeman does. So while Ben got off to a slow start, there was no reason to believe he couldn't turn it around, especially when PIT gets their OL healthy again, and that PIT's defense isn't as good as it was in the past. The Buccaneers are a different story. There isn't much of a track record. What makes you think that TB is going to start improving? Why do you think Freeman is going to start making better decisions with the ball? Stop getting happy feet and checking down to a RB or Winslow? Do you think defenses are going to change their strategy? It seems to me as the first 5 TB opponents wrote the book in how to defend them. A team is easy to defend if the opponent doesn't respect the deep ball. They can cleverly disguise a combination of man/zone coverages and jump routes without the risk of getting burned deep. It becomes very easy to double Williams and take him out the game. So the big question that we don't know is......will the TB coaching staff make the appropriate adjustments, which part entails in beginning to get the ball downfield, as well as figuring out how to get the ball into Mike Williams' hands. And if the coaching staff can make the adjustments, can Freeman execute? It's certainly possible that the whole TB offense is going to be a bust all year. It's also possible that they can turn it around. But Mike Williams can't turn it around if Freeman keeps playing like a bust, or the coaching staff wants to play it close to the vest, run a lot of Blount and rely on short passing. On a good note, TB's schedule going forward is pretty decent......NO, CHI, bye, @NO, HOU, @GB,@TEN, CAR, @JAX,DAL, @CAR,@ATL. Not a lot of scary defenses and a lot of high powered offenses so TB is going to have to score a lot to win.All you can do with Williams is stash him on the bench until he does something.

Yes, I think Freeman and the Bucs put up big numbers this week. I think they lose as well, but we Freeman/MW owners, might get some nice garbage time production.

Ben had a great game and Freeman went on to another 180 yard, 0 TD, 2 INT game.Other than that I am not sure what about your point.

On PFT as well, here is the story.Give Buccaneers receiver Mike Williams credit for candor: When he stinks, he admits he stinks. “I have got to step up. I’m playing terrible,” Williams told PewterReport.com. “From my aspect I am playing terrible. I should be doing a lot more to help my team win. I should be getting in the end zone. That is something I did last year, and that was getting in the end zone. Putting up points for this team. That is something I’m not doing right now so I have to put it together.” How terrible is Williams this season? In five starts he has 19 catches for 183 yards, he’s caught less than half the passes thrown his way, he has a fumble, and the stats at FootballOutsiders.com rank Williams dead last among the 90 receivers in the NFL who have been targeted enough to qualify. Williams, who had four catches for 28 yards in the Bucs’ 48-3 loss to the 49ers, says he’s taking it upon himself to get better. “I have to play better,” Williams said. “I’ve got to know they are looking for me. They want me to make big plays. I have to get open. I have to say forget the double teams, forget the frustration and catch the ball and do what I do. That is on me.” After the way they played on Sunday, the Buccaneers certainly have to play better. They could hardly play worse.

Dropped in my 14 team league as well! I have a claim to get him at the expense of Little, but I have a feeling that I don't the wrong thing.

Giving him one more week in a redraft league, and due to bye week issues I have to flex him. Another low output and he gets cut for sure. TB should be in a shootout with NO so a poor outing this week is inexcusable.

The offense will look alot better this weekend. Here is why. Blount's injury is a blessing in disguise. The problem with Tampa's offensive playcalling is this. When Blount is in, the defense will think it's a run. When Graham is in, the defense thinks it's a pass play. The majority of the time they are correct. When you tip off the defense Freeman is already at a disadvantage.

Now that Graham will start this weekend the defense won't know when it is a run or pass play. That alone improves the offense. Funny isn't it? If the Bucs keep this game close and the offense is doing well, I'm willing to bet a timeshare going forward between Blount and Graham where Graham will also see first down or second down carries. Tampa Bay CANNOT continue to deliver their offense the way they have been doing. Either Blount will need to include pass catching in his talents or he can just be the default goaline back. It's so easy as a defense to scheme against Tampa Bay. Hence why Freeman is struggling.

FWIW, FBG still has him as a WR2 (#21) and ESPN still has him as a WR3 (#28).
why??
If I had to guess, I'd say it's because no Blount and a matchup against the Saints which, on paper, should result in more pass attempts. More pass attempts, on paper, should result in the potential for Williams to deliver. I agree with what someone posted earlier - if Williams doesn't put up good numbers this week, his season may be over from a fantasy perspective. This is pretty much a make or break week for him in my opinion.

Michael Clayton part II
You obviously dont watch much Bucs games if you really think M. Williams is anything like that bum.
I don't watch much Bucs games, but I do recall an awesome rookie WR named Michael Clayton and a very impressive rookie named Mike Williams. Can you "go on" here a bit?

A ton of successful rookies struggle their second year and get it together again in their third. What do you see that Williams has that young Michael didn't?

(For those younger people, here's Clayton as a rook http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/C/ClayMi00/gamelog/2004/ )

Wow it was only 2004? It seems like 10-15 years ago

whaddya mean? How are you looking at games and gauging # of QB pass attempts before the two teams play?I understand a WR getting more looks, but this is different you're thinking team-wise and I'm curious

I think any team that plays the Saints has to go in thinking it will have to score a lot of points to win because the Saints are one of the most potent offenses in the NFL. The Bucs are not a high-scoring team so that means to get those points they'll have to do something they typically don't do - and that's throw the ball a lot. They also will be without their starting halfback which puts them at a disadvantage offensively before the game starts. Not to rip on Earnest Graham but if he was better than Blount he'd be the starter. I'm not convinced the Bucs can give the ball to Graham 25 times a game and expect to win. My belief is the running game will suffer without Blount, which will force the Bucs to throw the ball more than usual. So the combination of facing the Saints and no Blount in my opinion could result in more pass attempts for Freeman. More pass attempts in theory should give Williams more of an opportunity to put up good numbers because one would think if the Bucs are throwing the ball more, then more attempts will be there for the team's No. 1 WR.Now anything can happen as we all know but on paper, I think this matchup bodes well for volume pass attempts for the Bucs which, on paper, enhances Williams' fantasy potential. Of course, he's been bad in nearly every game since Week 1 so the matchup may not save him. Or Freeman could continue to play poorly. There are no guarantees obviously. But I think that when looking at this matchup on paper there is a real chance for Williams and that may be why FBG has him ranked where he's at (I'm not a subscriber so I don't know if anything has changed in his ranking since the previous post). If it were me, I wouldn't be comfortable ranking Williams in the upper 20s among WRs even during a bye week given how poor his performance has been this season. But I do think he has the potential in this matchup to get there for the reasons I listed.

I packaged Williams with Jahvid Best for Roddy White to a RB-starved owner. Williams was one of my 3 keepers this year but I've watched a few TB games this year and the passing game is just plain sputtering.

A different head coach, different QB and, with the exception of Ronde Barber, an entirely different team surrounding him.Other than that they are practically identical twins.

Look, there can be no question Tampa wants to get their offense going and that starts with Josh Freeman and Mike Williams, who without a doubt are the best players on the team. They need to throw better and more effectively. Their YPA is horrendous, and they don't have a defense which can keep them in games for long. Mike Williams is a beast and if the coaching staff doesn't recognize he needs the ball for the offense to succeed, they need to be fired. Against the Saints they need to throw early and often, especially with Blount out.

This is the game where Mike Williams returns to his 2010 level of play.

Does every white WR remind you of Ed McCaffrey too?

I think assuming he can hold on to the ball he will start to have some WR2 value going forward. With Blount out TB will be more throw oriented.

Drafted Freeman late as my starting QB thinking I made a great somewhat sneaky move. Also drafted Williams earlier. I'm thinking genius and double up baby!!

They have both been awful. I have since made some trades and I'm back in the hunt in my league. Some people saying give'em time. It's been 5 weeks. Wait a few weeks yeah but we are a third through the season now it they haven't looked any better on offense.

No one will touch these guys in my league in trade offers right now. I hope they get into a shootout with N.O. and their value goes up so I can trade them.

However I don't think they will want to get into a shootout. They probably will want to slow N.O. down and try to manage the clock if they can.

Doubt they will so come on throw, throw, throw today!

And now, as of 11 left in the 3rd, Briscoe also outproducing MW.

Come on Mike...
