I don't think they release the terms of his contract. But Sternberg "discovered" him so I imagine he's highly loyal.Speaking of Freidman, how long is he under contract? I don't recall many instances of big market teams throwing large contracts at Front Office people to lure them away from small market teams...does that happen?
I seem to recall Boston offering huge money and total control to Billy Beane but he turned them down because he wanted to stay on the West Coast--I think he was going through a divorce and wanted to be close to his daughter.I don't recall many instances of big market teams throwing large contracts at Front Office people to lure them away from small market teams...does that happen?
This is true. Oakland gave him a percent of the team as a way of closing the financial gap.<!--quoteo(post=12872369:date=Jan 31 2011, 05:58 PM:name=gump)--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (gump @ Jan 31 2011, 05:58 PM) <a href="index.php?act=findpost&pid=12872369"><{POST_SNAPBACK}></a></div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->I don't recall many instances of big market teams throwing large contracts at Front Office people to lure them away from small market teams...does that happen?<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->I seem to recall Boston offering huge money and total control to Billy Beane but he turned them down because he wanted to stay on the West Coast--I think he was going through a divorce and wanted to be close to his daughter.
Farnsworth has a clause in his contract to pay him more with X games finished. He has the language for it, but Jake McGee also has the stuffSonny is all but assured mop up work and spot starting.....Archer is the guy most likely to have an impact off the farm at some point this season. So what are the roles looking like in the pen? Is Farnsworth the closer? Howell? Sonny in long relief? Any of the new guys like Torres making an impact?
B.J.'s not starting?Maddon's 2011 clubhouse mantra: "Prove It"
I'm guessing 86-89 wins with this crew. I'm not 100% sold on the offense, but it has upside. They get no favors playing in the NL East, but we all knew that already.About to drop a few units on over 84.5 wins, seems pretty low for a team with this much pitching.
No Chi-Chi? Ouch. I'm guessing we're facing a righty. Any chance we see Zobrist at 1B and Rodriguez at 2B sometime soon? Or does he platoon between RF and 2B all year, depending upon the opposing pitcher?Opening day lineupZobrist 2BDamon LFLongoria 3BManny DHJohnson 1BUpton CFJoyce RFBrignac SSJaso CPrice P
Chi-Chi has a grande hole in his swing vs RHP. I don't think you'll see a lot of Zobrist and Rodriguez on the right side of the infield at the same time vs LHP. Someone has to play RF for tough lefties until Joyce hits them more effectively and the only reserve OF is Fuld, who is also a lefty. No Chi-Chi? Ouch. I'm guessing we're facing a righty. Did you see that lineup Cappy posted? They're going to need all the pitching they can get.About to drop a few units on over 84.5 wins, seems pretty low for a team with this much pitching.
Yeah sure thing. 2 games and it's ovah!!2 runs in 2 games to the Orioles? Not a good sign of things to come. Potential 90 game losers?
No word on how the long unlost son enjoyed opening day?2 runs in 2 games to the Orioles? Not a good sign of things to come. Potential 90 game losers?

MoP seems to really hate the Rays.'Ministry of Pain said:How many of their starting infielders would start for other teams right now? Can you name all their starters right now?
I don't know what the he!! he's talking about. Is he concerned about losing Pena? Bartlett and his huge 2010?MOP - Zobrist would start for most teams if not all. Obviously Longoria would start for all. Brignac is basically a rookie. Johnson, I will say, is not so hot.
meh its fun to pick on the Sox but the Rays slashed payroll dramatically. Its a shame. The game needs some fixing and this team needs to be moved somewhere that people fill the stands or at the very least get rid of the crappy dome.Is Maddon still a genius?
I know you're a bt of a doofus, but do you really think 6 games invalidates winning the East against the Yanks and Sox 2 out of the last 3 years? Is Maddon still a genius?
Gotta be Sawx fansWhich are getting pissier and more defensive - Red Sox fans or Tampa fans?
