Tampa Bay Rays 2011 thread (1 Viewer)

Good time to recall Jennings...right after the 10 games against the Sox and Yanks, and with the season now essentially over.

:wall:

I know it is a rumor, but if the Rays could get Meseraco and Alonso from the Reds in a deal for Shields, they have to jump at it.

Oof...the likelyhood of post season play now is slim to none IMO. I would dump Upton now if there are takers.

Not sure what the market would be like for Upton, one of the most overrated players in baseball. Rays need to get rid of his salary, wonder if they could get a couple very good middle relievers under team control for him (sort of like the Cameron Maybin deal between Marlins and Padres). The Rays are very close. They still have ridiculous starting pitching depth, so Shields is expendable. And Shields should get a rich bounty in prospects due to his extremely good contract. They need consistent offense. Alonso and Moresco would be fantastic starts. It is amazing how good the Rays scouting is in regards to starters.

I don't disagree. The flip side to that is, it is hard to get guys having a season like his, with his contract.

Scores from first on a single to right center.

Might be the fastest person in MLB right now.

ETA - called it a double somehow.

Put this season to bed...Upton is worth little...and Fried is not the bullpen guru wu thought...

Yea Jennings certainly gives Rays fans something to look forward to next year. Jennings, Longo, Zobrist and Joyce make a pretty good offensive core. Have to add around it though.

Matt Moore is dominating the minors. I wonder if he starts 2012 with the team. He may be their best prospect ever.

Since Upton wasn't traded (yet anyway), is the thinking still that Jennings will be a full time starter the rest of the year?

Lol

Kills me he wasn't called up 6 weeks earlier. Season may have been able to be saved.

Team is playing real well though. ####in AL East.

Bill Simmons jumps on the Cappy train:

Jonah, I need you to climb off Andrew Friedman’s lap for a few minutes, stop feeding him grapes and answer the following question: Why did Tampa wait nearly four months to promote Desmond Jennings from Triple-A?He’s a phenom. He’s terrifying. He’s doing things we haven’t seen since Kelly Leak was ripping up Little League fields in Southern California.

I mean, it just seemed silly to keep him in the minors, but whatever. He wasn't going to make up 8 games by himself anyways.

Gump > everything I've read says the extra wild-card is likely.

And Matt Moore comes up tomorrow. :towelwave:

It's starting to get interesting, but they really need to sweep that 4-game series in Boston next weekend. There's just no games left otherwise.

There's no way they catch the Yanks, and the Angels are right on our ### for the wild-card.Basically it's anti-Sox (per usual) and anti-Angels at this point.

On this day in 2007, the Phils were 7 back of the division leading Mets with 17 games to go and wound up winning the division by one game. Nothing is impossible, and with the way the Rays are playing, you never know. Good luck, awesome run by your guys.

Tampa will know if they are still in it by Monday.

Terrible losses in BAL. Yanks did the same thing last week. Leave it to the crappy O's to get their #### together at last.

You should hear local radio here in the Boston market. People are losing their MIND and the noose is tightening.

It occurred to me for a second that Girardi might tank the final series against T.B. to keep Boston out. Excuse me... not "tank" but rather "get the rotation set for the playoffs".... wink, wink. But then I realized that New York would almost certainly rather have Boston in the playoffs over Tampa Bay at this point in time.

I agree with the latter.I'm trying not to pay attention....I feel like a baseball player worried about some stupid jinx.Timmy K just said on SC that this would be the 'greatest comeback in baseball history, and the greatest collapse in baseball history.'
