We like what we like, but it does surprise me when critics and others call this movie masterful and have it at the top of Tarantino's films.
I know I can't talk you into liking this movie. But a recent SlashFilmCast podcast sums up my positive thoughts on the movie.

Worth a listen if you like film reviews
I listen to most of their podcasts in general, and all of their reviews after I have seen a movie. Same thing with Filmspotting - I usually listen to all of them, but they don't do spoilers, so I am more likely to watch that before I see a movie.

Even if I don't agree with them or you guys, I still love the discussion. I appreciated the look of the film and the passion for movies that QT brings to the table, this one just didn't do much for me. I didn't love Django either, but did like a tad more on a rewatch, so maybe that will be the case here. I was mostly disappointed that I didn't get a performance like Waltz or Leo in the last two, or a scene or two that blew me away like the last two. That is why I keep going back to QT - if I don't love the movie overall, I still get flashes of brilliance, and I didn't feel that here.

I dig.

You said we've been disagreeing a lot on movies? What happened to us?

Morricone (FINALLY!!!) wins a well deserved individual Oscar for Best Score at 87 years old and after well over 500 films - he received a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2007.

He was robbed when he did not get the oscar for the good the bad and the ugly

My favorite part of Morricone's 2016 Oscar winning score was the dramatic, menacing opening sequence, pitch perfect tone setter.

Wow, this film was bad. Tarantino has completely lost it.
I just watched this one a few weeks ago. Didn't think it was bad but it certainly wasn't very good (at least not based on QT's past efforts). What was especially bad was the performance by Demian Bichir (Bob the Mexican).

Drivel.  I can't think of one redeeming thing about the movie.

Not only was it awful, but it was 3 full hours of awful.

Only redeeming thing - a Morricone soundtrack. That's about it.

The cinematography or soundtrack?

I wasn't a big fan, but let's not pretend we are talking about a Ninja Turtles movie or something.

Please stop posting and buying his movie tickets, thanks in advance.
No and Yes.

Seriously, I think this was the worst movie I've seen in the last 5 years.  I read back through the thread and am shocked that there are people out there that enjoyed this.  Some people actually mentioned that it is Oscar worthy.  :lmao:

All of the 70mm, roadshow, and whatever else they did for the release.  It is like putting icing on a pile of cowturds and calling it cake.  Some of you guys are eating and saying, "Man, this tastes good."  Did we watch the same movie?  Let's all be honest here.  Tarantino is living off of the success of one movie.  He has been going downhill ever since.  And his latest movie was a complete hackfest.

I think we are watching two different movies. His characters have modern twists even when they are walking around in the 1800s. The movies by and large are fantasies and not meant to be taken too seriously. It's flat out good entertainment and light years ahead of the weekly trash that gets released in multiplexes.

If you disagree, you have that right to do so but I think we must like different movies.

DIdn't even realize it was that long.   That's when you know that you really like a movie.

This is always quality shtick.

Do you watch one movie a year?

Hey, like it, don't like it, that's cool. If you saw any major summer release over the last five years, there's no way that Hateful 8 was the worst.

Couldn't get into it, there were a lot of good scenes but just didn't mesh as well as Django which I liked better

it wasnt the worst movie ever lol...thats just nonsense ...it was very slow and drawn out which made it harder to enjoy...but when the action heated up it was well done action .....it wasnt QT`s best work by far tho...maybe we just expect too much from him because hes been so good u to now

Good movie, but definitely one of QT's least best, if not THE least best. Way too long in the sense that the overall quality did not justify the length.

Tim Roth was basically playing a role seemingly written for Christoph Waltz.  And Roth is not Waltz.

Michael Madsen's character was basically an afterthought.  What a boring, phoned-in performance.

Samuel Jackson is always great, but it seemed like he was basically playing Jules in different clothes.  Basically, at this point, SLJ is making a killing playing SLJ.

JJL and Russell were both excellent.

This doesn't have the rewatchability of his other films.

I'm with you on pretty much all of that. The past two films are probably my least favorite from QT. I can't tell if I think his quality is dropping or if he just can't pull off that time period in an exceptional manner.

1 Pulp Fiction

2. Kill Bill

3. Inglorious Basterds

4. Reservoir Dogs

5. Jackie Brown

6. Death Proof

7. Hateful 8

8. Django

I was actually a big fan of Django Unchained.  Not as awesome as Inglorious or Pulp Fiction, my two favorites, but in the next tier.

I didn't dislike The Hateful Eight; I liked it.  I just didn't love it, which is rare for me with a QT flick.
