Tarik Glenn to retire? (1 Viewer)

We witnessed last year Willie Roaf retire and the effect it had on LJ's production, as well as the rest of KC's offense. If Glenn actually retires, what can we expect from Indy? This is the most prolific offense in the league and he is a mainstay. Manning is excellent in the pocket, so I don't believe that we will see the same kind of production drop-off that we will see in Addai. I'm not ready to drop him too far yet, but does he fall as far as the end of the first round because of this? Let's hear some reactions.

Sorry kids, didn't see the first post on this.

My feeling is the Colts should still be ok. Because for more than just a few years the Colts offensive line has been one of the very best year in and year out. Outside of taking Glenn with the 19th pick in the 1st round, since then I think the highest pick they have used before this year to draft a offensive lineman was a 3rd round pick, and he didn't play, he died before training camp. Everyone else was a undrafted free agent or 4th round or later.

The other factor here is the offensive line coach Howard Mudd, maybe the best in the business. I guess to prove that again, he will find a way to make this work.

The Colts will be ok. Sure there will be a drop off in the play at LT, I just don't think it will be a huge drop off, but they will find a way to compensate with schemes or blocking changes they didn't need in years past.

I guess we will get a good look at Ugho (spelling?) sooner than expected

This is a pretty big deal. However, he could simply be preserving himself for the regular season. It is very possible that he is just skipping camp.

As a Colts fan and season ticket holder I am scared to death! Glenn was more than the LT for the Colts. He was the anchor that kept Manning on his feet.

The Colts will now be likely starting Charlie Johnson or Tony Ugoh. This likely means that the Colts offense will be changed to a degree. Ican tell you that Manning will be looking to get rid of the ball even sooner than he did before.

Who does this benefit? I think Joe Addai, Anthony Gonzalez, and Dallas Clark will benefit most. I think Wayne and especially Harrison's #s will come down slightly due to the time it normally takes for WRs to get separation at the LOS.

I think the Colts will do less of the Stretch plays they like to do. Manning has previously sprinted right and either handed off or faked and pulled up to pass. Will he really do this early in the season when he knows there is a greater chance someone is coming from behind with a full head of steam?

That is how I see it affecting the Colts this season.

Move Manning's #s down slightly.

Move Addai up slightly.

Move Gonzo and Clark up a tad.

Move Harrison's #s down 5%.

Wayne will be less affected, I might leave his #s alone.

Hopefully Manning gets plowed over repeatedly from blindside hits.
:own3d: Funny coming from an apparent fan of a QB who should've retired at least a year or 2 ago, has single-handedly taken his team out of the playoffs at least once or twice in the past few years, and isn't even average anymore. Anyway -As for Glenn, nice friggin timing :goodposting: I don't exactly see the Colts offense collapsing, but this loss will be felt, make no mistake. Johnson is capable and Ugoh has potential, but this hurts.

Shouldn't you be looking for another Favre press conference to announce that he isn't retiring, again ;) Also, may your daughter's back never see the light of day. :hot:

Adam Schefter reported on NFL Total Access tonight that Polian and Dungy are meeting with Glenn later this week (Thursday, IIRC) to discuss his future and to make sure he doesn't make a quick decision. Hopefully, they can convince him to stick around for one more year.

I'm surprised this didn't get more play. This could be HUGE news to the SB champs IMO.
It got plenty of play - this isn't the only Shark Pool thread on Tarik Glenn.
aahh. Ok, was away for a few days and looked in the search and came back with this thread...
I agree Banger, I'm still trying to decide how I see this affecting the Colts offense. In a way, I now think it could hurt Wayne more than Harrison. Since Harrison lines up on the right side of the offense, I could see Manning looking to get rid of the ball faster to that side of the field. However, maybe he now shows more tendency to look to the left side of the field earlier in the reads to make sure he isn't about to get killed. This will be the first time in his career he has had to worry about his blindside.Let's hope Glenn changes his mind for this season! As a Colts fan, that is. :goodposting:

The retirement caught me by surprise, is there any reason behind it? i.e. injury? contract renegotiation ploy? etc.?

Honestly, I think Glenn is a different breed. He is a great Christian family man and has other interests outside of football. I think he is content with his income and just ready to move on.If he was worried about the money, he would get a huge payday next year as a FA.

Considering the recent attention reguarding the physical & mental condition of former players, having the ability to walk away from football in one piece is smart. Teams discard players like old bubblegum, so all the more power to Glenn to leave on his own. Between a decade on the LOS, a SB ring and his health, it's a perfect time to pack it in.

This could have a significant affect on the Offence, given how late the 'announcement' is coming - I always hate when they wait to the last minute - I think it's b/c they realize they have to do TC again and it just starts to feel tiring even considering two a days.

As solid as that line had been, it will be tough to have someoen step in and pick up where Glenn left off.

Assuming he retires

Johnson played well when called upon (including the Superbowl) and Ugoh may be another option but this is a problem. This caught me way off guard as a Colts fan. At first I thought he might reconsider but he is done and I already regret the 1M times I went crazy and called him every name in the book for those false starts.

:banned: I couldn't agree more!

Yup. PFT had this blurb:
NO TURNING BACK FOR GLENN, COLTS

Even as some of the assorted sock puppets continue to report (and you know who you are) that the Colts are still trying to persuade left tackle Tarik Glenn to change his mind about retiring, the door to a return is slammed shut.

Per a league source, the Colts already have placed Glenn on reserve/retired list, which means that he cannot play at all in 2007, for any team.

But, hey, the truth never got in the way of a good televised talk-out-your-### session.

Losing Glenn will most definitely hurt..think about Seattle losing Walter Jones, and what that would do to their running game. same with LJ losing Roaf , last season...LJ's ypc dropped, while his carries went up..

Addai , without a doubt, drops a few notches in the RB ranks..if we're got on the Chiefs last season about that O-line with Roaf retiring, well, we're going to need to talk about the impact of what losing Glenn would mean to the Colts and in particular, Joe Addai..you can expect a drop-off ,across the board ,with Addai's stats...you don't easily replace a pro bowl LT like that..

Manning will likely be sacked a few more times than in the past..I wouldn't worry too much, if it wasn't his blind side..
