Profootballtalk.com reports that Tarvaris Jackson suffered a sprained MCL in the Vikings' preseason game Saturday night.Jackson played through the injury for a few snaps Saturday before having to exit. The 25-year-old passer has been effective in the preseason, but he's had knee problems before so this is a concern. Jackson shouldn't need surgery, but it remains to be seen when he'll be back in action. Aug. 17 - 2:25 pm etSource: Profootballtalk.com

Hasselbeck suffered the same injury in 2006 and missed four games. If that time table holds true, Jackson would miss the first two games of the regular season. And even then, his mobility could be limited.

Yes but Hasselbeck had his own offensive lineman basically fall on his knee when that happened iirc, Tarvaris was up and standing with his knee iced on the sidelines after his injury. They've said they believe he could play in week 4 of preseason but the window for getting the most out of the games ends in week 3. I am sure Tarvaris will miss time this season for something or other, but he's riding a stationary bicycle already so I would think it's not as serious as Hasselbeck's was.

Yeah, Hasselbeck's injury looked much worse. EJ Henderson knocked him back into Mack Strong and his knee buckled. He was in a lot of pain.Of course, Jackson looked like he was in a lot of pain last night too:

It'd be nice if they released more details about Jackson's MCL sprain. Hasselbeck's was a second degree sprain. Any idea what degree Jackson's MCL sprain is?

FWIW, it sounds like Childress want him to play this week... Link

I can't believe they fell warm and fuzzy with Ferotte as their number two guy. He's ervicable in a one or two game pinch, but if they ahve deep playoff aspirations I would think they'd have looked for a bit better number two. Like Favre for instance.

You're kidding around, right?
