Tatum Bell in a keeper league (1 Viewer)

He's got the RB1 gig locked up right now.

What are the chances he has the same role again next year?

Obviously we can't predict the future, but history with the Broncos RB would seem to indicate that if you can perform at a high level, you keep your job. Is this a safe assumption?

Shanny is nutty so it is just too tough to say. I am sure you took Tatum late so if you lose a late draft pick rather than keeping a rb that you drafted in the first or second round could be a good move for your team next year. You just have to decide if it is worth the risk and I would say that it is if you got Tatum in the 5th or 6th round. Tatum is awesome value if you lose a 6th round pick to keep him. I got Larry Johnson in the 7th round in 2005. It is a 3 person 3 year keeper league so I get to keep LJ as my 7th round draft pick for the next 3 years.

I would be trading for Tatum Bell in a re-draft league. I would be trading Tatum Bell away in a dynasty league.

Every year since Davis retired it seems Shanny has had a new back to insert. It was Gary, then Anderson, then Droughns, then Anderson again...now Bell. It's not just that you can't trust Shanny...is Bell really that good?

I believe Shanny will either draft someone next season or possibly sign someone that is in a back up role now, although he usually doesn't make those types his premier back for the year.

Shanny would be a fool to just keep Tatum as the starter going into next season. This is a guy that traded Portis away...so he really has a high bar for RB if they could ever reach that bar for Denver to pay enough $$$ to keep them around. They seem intent on signing guy out of college to 3-4 year deals and then letting them go before they get too expensive.

Dynasty League...trade him while he is worth a lot...maybe let him tear it up another week or two and then get another RB that has a much more settled situation.

:goodposting: The only thing that I disagree with is that you seem to say that Shanny traded away Portis because he wasn't happy with him or he wasn't good enough. I think that he traded away Portis because he assumed that he could plug anyone into his system and get 1000 yards, but he didn't have a system that could just get a "shut down" corner out of no where.

Bingo. That deal worked quite well for both teams. Champ's amazing while Shanny's continued to field quite a valid running game and Portis set the 'Skins season rushing record last year, proving he was far from a "system back".

First, regarding the Portis situation, we don't know anything for certain. Shanahan's motives could have been influenced by something that stayed behind closed doors for all we know. However, based on what we do know, I would draw a different conclusion that you did. Portis was incredible in Denver, no doubt. He also wanted incredible RB money. It's not that Shanahan has a "high bar" at RB in order to pay a player a lot of money. If you were going to pay any RB big money at that time, Portis was in the elite group that deserved it. However, it doesn't make sense to blow all that money on a top rate RB when a minimum/rookie salary RB can achieve similar results. The cost-benefit ratio of a top-flight RB compared to that of a less talented, cheaper RB didn't make sense for the team. The Broncos had the opposite problem at CB. No matter what they did, it seemed that they couldn't get a decent CB out of the draft. The cost-benefit ratio at CB made sense for them. The result of that very logical trade is that, in two seasons, Denver's defense has has become the dominant aspect of the team. Keep in mind that this is a traditionally offensive team. Are they missing Portis? Sure, but it's pretty evident that this season's offensive problems aren't stemming from the RB position.

Or he could trade Bell and a draft pick over to SD more Turner who would fit better in Shanny's system. A power back with break away speed. Yeah, I know wishful thinking from a Turner owner.

Not totally no, but the running game is nothing special. It is nothing as dominate as it was with Davis or Portis. If they had a dominate back like them with addressing their WR situation in the offseason that offense would be smoking even with Plummer at qb, because all he would have to do is limit his mistakes and not try to make something happen all the time. The offense is struggling and the harder he tries the more mistakes he makes. Hopefully they will right the ship soon. The Defense rules though!

Wow.

The Broncos traded Portis, because of the deal they recieved from the Skins. A top CB, which they had been looking for for a long time (continually drafting bums at CB) and getting a 2nd round pick to boot. You simply cannot pass that up. A top CB and a 2nd round pick are worth considerably more than a top RB

Plus they needed that top CB right now instead of waiting for one to develop, especially when facing Gates, Moss, and Gonzalez twice a year. Shanny must have felt confident he would have no problem in producing a RB (and rightly so to some extent).

I'm still not hearing any reason why Tatum Bell owners should not be thinking about trading Bell away this season. You got what you were hoping for which is the fact he is starting right now...why not get the most value out of him.

You will cry all over this board next summer when Shanny has 2-3 other RB in camp and is stating each week that each of them is the starter heading into the season...then you'll ##### that you should have traded him during the 2006 season.

Tatum Bell the starting RB in Denver the next 3-5 seasons? C'mon.

The running back position is and will be hit and miss. TBell's job stability is non existant. He's on a team that can't pass so opposing teams target the run. Until they address the Snake bite problem, they won't be able to consistanly run the ball, which will put the RB's position at risk. Hopefully, shanny finally throws in the towel on the snake during the off season. Unfortunately, that may be too late for TBell.
