Tatum Bell scheduled to workout with Denver! (1 Viewer)

UPDATE: I don't have a link yet, but reports out of Denver confirm that Tatum Bell has signed with the Broncos.

With Denver's backfield wrecked by injuries, Tatum Bell is scheduled to workout Tuesday for the Broncos.Bell was a second-round pick by the Broncos in 2004 and had a 1,000-yard season for them in 2006 before being dealt to the Lions for Dre Bly. He was cut loose in September and made headlines for allegedly stealing Rudi Johnson's luggage, but the Broncos are pretty desperate and Bell could jump right into the mix for carries. For what it's worth, the Denver runningbacks have combined to average (per game):

20.9 = Touches

111.2 = Total Rush/Rec Yards

0.7 = TDs

Dang the last 2 years really were just a ploy to motivate TBell

That Shanny is one tricky fox!!

The Denver Broncos, looking to add depth to their depleted running back corps, are expected to bring back former Broncos running back Tatum Bell.

Bell was at the Broncos Dove Valley complex Tuesday morning and was being given a physical. Paperwork on a contract was expected to be completed by early Tuesday afternoon.

Bell, a former second-round pick by the Broncos was traded to the Detroit Lions along with former first-round pick George Foster for cornerback Dre Bly before the 2007 season. Bell, who rushed for 182 yards in five games with the Lions in 2007, was released by the team before the start of the 2008 season.

Considering what happened with Bell in Detroit earlier this season, I have to seriously question the sense of Mike Shanahan in bringing this clown back. I know they are desperate for help, in light of their string of injuries at the RB position, but bringing back a guy like that? Ugh.

From what I've heard:

If Bell is in game shape he will be the starter. (this statement was followed up with a "but really, who the hell knows?") Now, in my opinion, this doesn't make Peyton Hillis worthless. Bell was never known for his motivation or work ethic.

and remember, this is a PASS FIRST team. Bell is horrible as a receiver. Hillis should still be the goalline guy, and the receiving back in on 3rd downs.

I'm working the phone lines/text messaging and will be sure to post any updates I get.

this whole move reeks of desperation. I had thought FOR SURE that Tatum was done (especially in Denver) after the whole Rudi Johnson incident.

Not just that but I can remember a few games at the end of his run in Denver where he would fumble at a key point in the game. Denver's offense is prone to turnovers as it is. Definitely a desperation move.

I know Tatum has been characterized as a loser but the guy has a chance to come in with a chip on his shoulder and prove to every one that he's still a player. This should be entertaining if anything.

Very true. I question whether Tatum has the heart to continue with that chip on his shoulder if he is frustrated - or God forbid fumbles.

Does this signing mean that Selvin Young is viewed not near playing? Is he so hampered that they need to really depend on Tatum Bell?

What's the over/under on the number of games that Bell plays before he is injured???

I'll set the early line at,,,1.

He was picked up in one of my leagues last week when Torian went down...At the time, I thought it was a stretch, but it seems he knew what he was doing.

I'm not going to read the posts in this thread so I can remain unbiased...but anyone who references the tired joke or uses the "M" or "P" words in the joke should be banned immediately. We must be vigilant and not allow it to return.

To arms! :football:

Is Hillis that bad that you'd rather bring in a guy off the street and start him? I thought he ran pretty hard against Cleveland and it's already been mentioned about his receiving abilities. I could understand this if it's just for depth, but as a starter? C'mon. :football:

I'm right there with you :confused:and remember, my sources followed that up with a quick "who the hell knows?"And being deemed the starter doesn't mean that he will get the bulk of the carries, or a bulk of the fantasy production from that position. I could see the offense going like this:Tatum on first and tenHillis on second, Hillis on thirdHillis exclusively at the goallineI could see some scenarios with Bell and Hillis in the backfield at the same time, only to play fake with Bell and toss it to Hillis on the bootleg right.we shall see!

Thanks for the insight Cecil...By the way, is your source who said that coming from inside the organization? If you can't answer I understand. If it is someone inside the organization, I think that is a telling sign of how bad the RB situation really is.

Pondering more on this it comes down to speed really.

Hillis is a good runner, workman like, hard nosed, etc. But he doesn't challenge the second level of the defense. If he breaks through the line, he doesn't have the 2nd gear or wiggle to make LBs miss. He can run them over, but that would slow down his momentum and allow the pursuit to catch up.

I don't think defenses will stack 8 or 9 in the box to stop Tatum Bell, but the ONE thing he does have is speed. If he makes the correct cutback, and gets to the 2nd level he could break a big one.

that fact alone could give a Safety pause when reacting to a play action.

just a thought :goodposting:

sorry Buffaloes, no can do. It's funny though, I've cross checked this potential starter situation as much as possible today and I always get a "who knows" at the end of it. Good to hear opinions though.

Understandable...Thanks for the info though. :blackdot:

Thanks a bunch for the updates Cecil, great work. As sad as it makes me, with Portis potentially hurt, I might have to...

No...stop me! Not another Denver running back!

:bs:

I picked up Hillis (Young and Bell are both on the wire). Hillis gets the start this week. Hopefully he does enough to at least keep a share of the carries, the 3rd down role and the goalline roll. Who knows.

i made a "cue the glorious return of tatum bell" joke in the torain thread after hall/pittman went down, and i was doing just that...JOKING! man, they must not have any faith in hillis/pope....

Well, I am not a fan of any particular NFL team, but now I will certainly root against the Broncos if I watch them play. It is ridiculous that they are signing this guy.
The guy stole someone's skibbies. He is hardly a "criminal". I would be shocked if 4/5ths of the NFL did not at least have one player with a prior felony on their roster.

4.5 is far from slow, but with Shanny you never know.

STOP! Is Ahmad Bradshaw available in your league? the Giants have a tough matchup against Baltimore, and if Jacobs gets through that game unscathed we could see the GMen turn to Ward and Bradshaw to help keep the big man fresh.after Baltimore it'sweek 12: @ARIweek 13: @WASweek 14: vPHIweek 15: @DALweek 16: vCAR

I am not trying to turn this into an assitant coach thread but I want to try ot gauge Bell's value.

Is he more valuable than Fargas at this point?

Is he worth a flyer or only if you're desperate.

If I had a good team and just need a filler, I would go with Fargas. I am guessing in my PPR that he will average between 7-10 points/week. Not great numbers, but better than putting up a goose egg (which I think Bell would have the potential to do). Bell seems more boom or bust, so if I had a weaker team and really needed a prayer to win, I would go with Bell. For the example you gave (with Fargas), he is an established starter (at least until McFadden feels fit to play again) while we have no clue today how Bell will be used.
