The original version of that game made me insane. You spend a half hour setting up the players, then turn the vibration on and everyone runs in 22 different directions.
Was there another way to play the game?
No. You set up the players; they fall down and you lose that tiny pill football in no time.

:goodposting:

After having the game for about a week we would just set up our players on the 50. Then we would turn the game on for 1 minute. You got a point for every player that went out of bounds or in the endzone. Pretty soon we started adding army men and ark animals.

But it was awesome!

Mattel Football

Bonus like for anyone who can find a pic on the proper way to play the game. I couldn't find it.
If you are asking how, those arrows would move a blinking cursor up/down/left/right. It was very high-tech. The sound of a tackle being made was used in Supertramp's "The Logical Song."

I was unbeatable in this game, BTW.

nope, I meant sweatshirt pulled up over you head so you can see the blip

Dave Kingman standing behind Tommy Lasorda. Ever heard the very NSFW Lasorda rant after a game where Kingman hit three homeruns against him?
:lmao:

"What's my opinion of Kingman's performance?!?!"

Great rant. It doesn't compare to Lee Elia's rant, but there's no shame in that since Lee Elia's rant is the greatest thing I've ever heard.
NSFW!

:lmao: That's fantastic - never heard it before. Thanks for sharing!

Hmm. Don't remember those. The highlight of my youth was going to Yankee Stadium or Fenway and bringing home one of those mini baseball helmets that the ice cream came in. :bag:
Man, I used to collect those at Dairy Queen. Then they came out with football helmet sundaes with a gray two bar face mask and stickers you put on yourself. I was in heaven. Then I got toolish and asked the chick behind the counter if they would come out with hockey goalie masks. :bag: :bag:

Oh, that's spectacular.

What is that? MLB All-Stars of 1979 taking on the baseball all-stars of an alien race for control of the galaxy? Glad we've got Schmidt playing 3B.
:)

1979 MLB All-Stars' tour of Japan. I'm wondering how Aureilo Lopez of the Tigers snuck into the National League's team photo.

I've posted this four or five times in the Pics that Rule thread at :e: ... mainly because it drives Homer nuts. We eventually got an ID of everyone in the photo. Even the suits.
link?

Sonuva. That is Bowa. Thanks!I'm gonna have to take a crack at guessing the whole team photo now.
Just don't read the post before yours! :oldunsure:

Were those Mets, Phillies and Reds pillbox hats just shtick for the trip? I only remember the Pirates rocking that style.

:thankyou:My love for Strat-O-Matic has faded, but not faded away. I picked up the Hall Of Fame expansion pack a year or so ago. First time S-O-M had made cards for Negro Leaguers like Satchel and Cool Papa Bell.

You can also order custom made cards through their Website. Enter a player name, team name, stat profiles and measuarables, and S-O-M generates a card for your player and mails it to you. Made cards for my dad in his name inspired by on his favorite hitter and pitcher. He uses them as bookmarks.

Most of the teams in the big leagues made hats that style to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the sport. The Pirates stuck with the triple stripe hats for a few years while the other teams went back to their previous designs.

I had that one. Coleco Foto-Electric Football. It was basically a lightbulb inside of a cardboard box. The offensive and defensive plays were sheets of paper you laid on a translucent screen that was the top of the box. There were always arguments about whether the defensive "player" blocked the path of the offensive play enough to force a tackle.
That sounds exhilarating.

The fire hazard added to the excitement factor

In all fairness, pretty much all battery powered toys posed a fire hazard back then.

Even 50 years later, the Mattel Thingmaker and Creepy Crawlers had it all: extreme heat, molten chemicals, small chewable parts

Creepy Crawlers is the best-known name associated with an activity toy made by Mattel beginning in 1964. Another name for the toy is "Thingmaker". A Thingmaker toy consists of a series of die-cast metal molds resembling various bug-like creatures, into which is poured a liquid chemical substance called Plastigoop, which comes in assorted colors. The mold is then heated to about 390 degrees F atop an open-face electric hot plate oven. The Plastigoop is cured by the heat, and when cooled, is removed from the mold, forming semi-solid, rubbery replicas.

If I got the ball to kick off, I could score with 0 time left in the 1st half, and then get the ball to start the 2nd half and do the same. Opponent never got to play. No one ever wanted to play me.
