TE David Njoku, CLE (3 Viewers)

Glad I didn't bail on this guy after learning Watson was starting. Only needed him for one bye week but there might be some stash value here.

I have held him for 4 years believing in his talent and the fact that he was being held back by the dumpster fire that is Cleveland. So happy to finally have him paying off. The guy is a straight stud and still young

He was doing really well the first half of last year, but then he had the high ankle sprain and never regained his momentum when he returned to Watson at QB.

Funny how Njoku and Cooper have developed great chemistry with QBs other than Watson.

I don't disagree that they've been BEASTING under Flacco... But the Browns were 4-1 w/Watson (inc a win v Baltimore, IN baltimore and v Cinci w/Joe Cool too.)

Cooper had 480yds and 2TDs in 5 games with Watson.
Cooper had 485yds and 3 TDs in 4 games with Flacco. 265 of which came in one game.

Defintely better numbers, but just arguing that it wasn't day/night.

Now, Njoku... VERY DIFFERENT story.

Huge difference in actual stats though. In 6 games Watson had 1100 yards and 6tds which is borderline pathetic. In 5 games flacco has almost 1700 yards and 16tds

Such regret dropping him from dynasty rosters years ago
Hindsight 50/50 and all. After 4 years if a guy isn't showing the production that warrants rostering...Although I DID take him in the 1st round in a couple and at least one of those teams still has a hole at tight end, I don't regret regret it, just more like "wow, bummer"

Flacco in a month has thrown for more TDs than Pitt, NYG, Carolina, Tenn, and the Jets have for the season.

I would argue it is day and night. The passing offense in Cleveland was terrible with Watson with maybe the exception of the 2nd half of the Ravens game. Even that comeback needed a 4th quarter pick six. Watson was carried by his defense. Three of the games Watson won, the opposing team scored 3, 3 and 0 points.

Watson never had over 300 passing yards. Flacco has done that in every game since his first (4 out of 5). Watson only had multiple passing TDs in 2 games. Flacco has done it in every game. The Browns are legit contenders with Flacco because they have a fully functional offense now. I'm not saying Watson is cooked or will never be good again, but Flacco has been a revelation for this team. Watson never came close to this production this year.

Only theory for Watson that I have is that he really isn’t motivated anymore with the contract and that he’s in Cleveland. He was excellent in Houston, especially during that will fuller blowup year. Flacco I think just loves the game and hence he’s a good fit. Stefanski probably feels hamstrung due to having to start Watson due to the contract and not due to the fact that he isn’t playing up to the standard expected.

Ok, but I was clearly referring to the Watson - Cooper connection. They were working well together.

As a whole, it's clearly a different offense. Id never say otherwise

Flacco uses the underneath routes as well as the long ones. Thus you have more yards coming from TE's and slot. Watson just waits for Cooper to get open and chucks it. Making defenses defend the whole field is key. Flacco has many options, Watson has a few.

I'm definitely worried about the Watson/Flacco splits.

In that 4 game stretch in December, he had 337 yards and 3 TD's.
In 12 other games, he had 509 yards, and 3 TD's

Now they've added Judy. Watson's been terrible. I don't have a ton of confidence he's going to become unterrible.

The one hope would be that Watson and the coaching staff saw what he was able to do and are going to make a genuine effort to use him in the passing game.

I put him at TE10. I'm debating if I'd rather pull the trigger on Bowers at that point.

David Njoku was the TE who tied George Kittle for the position lead in yards after the catch per reception in 2023.

- Face-melting stiff arms
- 1st ballot hall of famer if paired up with Joe Flacco for his whole career

Njoku is tied with Kittle in YAC/REC over the past three seasons, even while playing in an offense that is less conducive for YAC creation. Absolute DAWG.

Yo, I didn’t realize the face-melting joke was in bad taste. I think that the fact that Njoku was able to play through and have a career year after burning his face is one of the most metal NFL stories I’ve ever heard. Didn’t mean to make light of it!

Any update on him? He is still showing as questionable right now, but havent heard anything about him possibly missing any time.

#Browns Pro Bowl TE David Njoku is feared to have suffered a high-ankle sprain in today’s loss to the #Cowboys, sources say. He’ll have tests on Monday to confirm.
It looked like he could barely walk on it, High Ankle Sprain can be like a month+, right?
Every one of them is a little different and every NFL players recovers slightly faster or slower than others

Only 4/40+ yds but he was actually doing much better than a lot of other Tight Ends yesterday, likely was gonna rack up a stat line around 6/60+, mostly garbage time stats coming
The Browns offense looked very underwhelming but Njoku was getting targets from Watson
If you can stash Njoku for later, the Browns look like they will be playing catch up this season

Any further updates on when he will be back? With all these TE injuries I might need to acquire him. Any chance he's back this week?

Stefanski said yesterday they will see how he’s doing Wednesday.

If he does not make it back this week, should for week 5.

The OL injuries hurt and might make him handle more blocking, but if his ankle is well he's on my short list of candidates to be the TE1 for ROS.

I was so optimistic when he didnt go on IR...oh well whats another week or 2 to have some hope in the wasteland that is TE

Wait the TE1 ROS???

BTW curious whatg everyone thinks ranking him against Engram ROS ppr? Who would you rather have?

Yes like he was the second half of last season in my leagues.
But wasn't that with Flacco?
Mainly yes, except weeks 9-10 and he was merely good in those games but he did get 23.5% of Watsons targets, 15 total, and his production in those two games would make him TE3 this year.

But I fully understand your point about the Watson splits and it had me concerned as well but I think there is more to it. Mainly think Stefanski just moved to making him more of a feature part of the offense and that was reflected in those week 9 and 10 games but honestly I was not convinced. But the drumbeat from some Browns beat writers, especially Zac Jackson with The Athletic, was extremely loud and constant this off-season that Njoku was not just a piece of the offense but the centerpiece of the passing game. Especially a big part of the short passing game and the leagues I play and was referencing are TEP so just throwing him a lot of shorter stuff and letting him run after the catch is not a bad formula.

In week one he got hurt with a little over eleven minutes left in the third quarter. My guess is if he could have finished the game he'd have ended week one second only to LIkely. But more to the point I thought the usage that people like that Zac Jackson were touting was looking like it checked out. 4 first half targets, 5 before he got hurt, a lot of short passes. I recall absolutely liking what I was seeing a great deal from him before he went down.

If they use Njoku like Flacco did I like Njoku over Engram. Higher TD upside with Njoku. Problem is Watson. Unsure what to think here.

Dude is our only hope lol
Was just scrolling through my X timeline in the order the tweets were sent and saw he was DNP today and truly got the bad feels about me. Then I kept scrolling up and saw it was planned, day on, day off. Phew.

I need this guy so bad. I got him on a bunch of TE teams in 1.5 TE leagues and some of those teams have not got the 10 points he gave me in just over 2 quarters since he played in week one. Got a few zero's.

Njoku seems like a poor man's Kyle Pitts: Long on promise, short on results.

That's my impression anyways.
Other than being one of the best players in fantasy (regardless of position) down the stretch last season.
Bye weeks and injuries are killing me. I got Engram in a trade package and later acquired Njoku who was dropped. Both of these guys being hurt forced me to pick up a third TE but I'm playing the long game.

Would be really nice if he returns this week.
