49ers :: TE

TE Eric Johnson Suffers Knee Injury

John Crumpacker, San Francisco Chronicle - [Full Article]

49ers TE Eric Johnson was carted off the practice field yesterday after injuring his knee. He was heavily favoring his left leg as he got off the cart. Details of the injury are not yet known. Rookie TE Vernon Davis, who recently returned from an early season broken fibula and has gotten an increase in playing time lately, would likely start for Johnson if the injury is serious. LINK

Nolan said he wants to incorporate rookie tight end Vernon Davis more in the offense, saying, "His strength is after the catch and we do need to get him the ball more.''

How is this possible? I cannot believe that Eric Johnson is hurt. Say it isn't so.

:bye: Eric Johnson. Time for you to give it up. You are really frail.

Davis made a Rams DB (Tye Hill i think) look like a gnat on his one catch last week. I expect the niners to use Davis a lot this week. If this injury had happened earlier in the week, I might have made Davis my sleeper of the week.

From KFFL...pick up Davis if you need TE help!

49ers have a nice playoff schedule and Nolan wants to get him more involved.

49ers | Johnson injury update

Matt Maiocco, of the Santa Rosa Press Democrat, reports San Francisco 49ers TE Eric Johnson (knee) was experiencing more pain in his knee Wednesday, Nov. 29, when he left practice early and was taken to get an MRI. The club believes Johnson has an MCL injury, which typically takes three weeks to recover.

Did he say how many yards he'd have this week?

Unfortunately, in between trying to get him the ball, and "after the catch," there's that awkward "catch" thing in there.

Updating previous reports, Matt Maiocco, of the Santa Rosa Press Democrat, reports San Francisco 49ers TE Eric Johnson (knee) is expected to miss the next 2-3 weeks with a sprained MCL in his left knee. Johnson is an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season but the team has had preliminary conversations to re-sign him.
Get Davis NOW. Johnson is done for 06 (fantasy-wise).
Niners might be able to get him cheap cheap now!!ETA: But then again, the niners do have delainie walker.

Thanks for the heads up. I just snagged Davis. I have been looking at adding a backup te to my roster for the playoffs, and was debating between Davis and Stephen Alexander. This news put me over the edge.

Unbelievable.

I drafted Johnson in his rookie season because he has such great hands. It is a real shame that his entire career has been marred by injuries. Bummer.

I'd love to see Walker get more playing time. I don't see why he shouldn't. I don't think the Niners have what it takes to make the playoffs this year. Next year watch out though!

How far does he get bumped?
IMO He's the TE equivalent of Corey Bradford(and countless other "just deep" WRs) right now. If he gets a deep ball he'll have a good amount of yards and maybe a TD. If not......eh not much

I disagree (with the strategy, not your expectation of what might happen). After watching Davis extensively in college, I think the best thing to do is get the ball to him as quickly as possible - slants, LOS screens, whatever. His speed & ability to break tackles make him very dangerous in the open field.
