TE Rob Gronkowski (1 Viewer)

At this point Gronk is very unlikely to hit most of his incentives. Not even sure if he can get 80% of offensive snaps given what he's already missed. He needs 70 catches and currently has 29. He needs to get 1,085 receiving yards and is at 448. He needs 9 TD and currently only has 1. And he only has 6 games to make up the difference.
Good post. I was getting ready to post the exact same thing.

Gronk’s response to the weekend at Bernie’s piece.  Found it on Twitter:

"I heard there was like some crazy weekend though at my house... Sh-t gets crazy!”

Apparently I was one Jack Doyle non-functioning kidney away from Gronk being the healthiest TE on my roster.

Definitely did not see that one coming.

Thought Gronk looked like old Gronk catching that TD down the seam. Got knocked around pretty good too there.

Brady also threw him two absolutely terrible fades in the endzone. Gronk had zero chance there. His day would have been much bigger had he nabbed one of those two.

Everyone saying he looks slow and lumbering. Yeah...I don't know. Feel like there's some over analysis going on there.

My biggest question is this: Do I keep a backup TE on my roster now? I have C. Brate, but hate having a backup TE. Especially with other needs that need to be addressed as I head into the playoffs. See your typical J. Smith, G. Everett, and C. Herndon on the wire. Understanding those options and Gronk's help, tempted to ditch Brate for say, a defense with a good matchup in week 1 of the playoffs next week. I mean hell...if Gronk is out again, I'm probably screwed anyway.

just checking to see if Gronk is hurt.

Didn't watch but did hear that Brady looked bad in the redzone. So many moving parts in that offense and now they can run the ball. He tends to go for Gronk on third down though.

I'm in the same boat. Short bench curious if I should keep Njoku.

He’s not going to be old school Gronk but this matchup was brutal and didn’t really play into a Gronk game script where a strong running game opens up passing lanes and play action opportunities.  Mainly because the Vikings have a top D.

If he come away from today injured or puts up a game like this against the Dolphins I’ll be worried.

I did see him limping around late in that game, but he's been like this all year so we'll find out this week.

He got tackled after one of his receptions and came up hobbling.

I swear every time he hits the ground I hold my breath. It's like a big tree falling in the woods that I expect to splinter into pieces.

I did see that he went back in the game though so he's probably fine. But, he'll be absent/limited in practice all week and have us scrambling for Chris Herndon.

Sounds about right.

Yep.  Pretty spot on.

Was able to take advantage of the Kelce owner having to win week 12 during Kelces bye to make the playoffs, and packaged Gronk and some other pieces for Kelce.

I sleep much better now.

I think I am going with Cameron Brate over Gronk.  Much better matchup and TB is probably going to have to score 30+ to win.  I think Brate has a better chance at a TD.

Amazing that it has come down to this.  But I can't trust Gronk anymore.....either to stay healthy or get consistent target share.  NE has too many options, and they run the ball a lot more, especially near the goalline.

I have the same choice if Samuels gets nabbed ahead of me and would go Brate as well. He was getting targetted by his boy pretty frequently last week.

So did he come out of this completely unscathed (other than his ego on that missed tackle attempt)? Good to go for week 15 semi's? Thinking of starting Gronk and Jared Cook in TE Premium.

I’m starting him.  Patriots injury reporting is a joke so I don’t think we really know what his status is beyond he’s playing.

Read something that the Steelers have been preparing all week ways to stop him and take him out of the game.

Looks like Edelman and White dump off game.

Just because they prepare doesn't mean they'll be effective.

NE has a long history of riddling this D through the air.

And the middle of the field is where the Steelers are vulnerable.

Anyone see what K. Allen did to them? Jeesh. Knew it was going to him every time and still couldn't stop him.

Benched him for Cook today, but had him ready to flex if Julio couldn't go. So glad I didn't need him. Sad potential end to a historic career, fantasy-wise.

I wonder how hurt he has been this year.  He doesn't look the same...  Hopefully it's something he can bounce back from and not something degenerative in his back.

Actually I’m correct.  The Rodgers thread was empty. Not many Rodgers owners made the finals this year.

Gronk is also trash and will be in WWE soon enough.
Best ever at his position. But he's been beaten up his entire career. Time to hang them up. Just an average tight end at this point. He's also due 10 million next year. No chance in hell the Patriots are paying him that

Yeah. They tried dealing him last year so it should have been a sign that he threatened to retie.  Bloom had him ranked at 6 overall in PPR Lol.

He's just broken down at this point.

I traded for him in Dynasty.  Gave Jimmy Graham and Kenny Stills.  Thought I was getting away with highway robbery--jokes on me.  Granted, didnt lose anything major.  But my TE situation is no better.  We do a 3 week playoffs with 6 teams--the 1st week he was good.  The last 2 weeks terrible.  I don't think you can rely on him going into 2019.  RIP

Rob Gronkowski converted his lone target for a 25-yard gain Sunday in the Patriots’ Divisional Round win over the Chargers.

Gronk was mostly relegated to a blocking role, which has been the norm for him this year. He was exceptional in that regard, continually opening up holes in the run game while also providing stellar pass-protection. Gronkowski drew pass interference against Casey Hayward in the first quarter, which set up a one-yard rushing touchdown by Sony Michel on the very next play. He was only targeted once but made the most of it, breaking multiple tackles on his way to a 25-yard gain early in the third quarter. With retirement rumors swirling, Sunday may have been the 29-year-old’s final game at Gillette Stadium. New England will travel to Kansas City to face the top-seeded Chiefs in next week’s AFC title game.

The corpse of Rob Gronkowski has now been held to three or fewer catches in 8 of his last 9 games.

Taking off the fantasy football hat, Gronk's blocking over the past month has been all-pro level. He was destroying the Chargers D-Line yesterday.  If he's a 6th offensive lineman out there with the occasional catch, he's still a valuable NFL player.

Which makes the fall off in production even more strange. If his back was so wrecked that he couldn't dominate in the passing game anymore, wouldn't it make him weaker in maintaining his blocks?

Odd, isn't it?  If I had to guess, I think he's become more stiff in the hips and back so he can't make the same kinds of quick-twitch horizontal movements anymore.  But the power is still there to straight line run and block so in that sense, he's still a great run blocker.

Gronk still gets open quite a bit by my eyes. There were at least 7-8 plays in that Chargers game where he was wide open, he's just not a priority anymore. Its Edelman/White/others in that order. Gronk certainly isn't the passing game weapon he was even a year ago, but he's not washed up by any means. He's still a B+ NFL TE, especially when factoring in that outstanding blocking.

I feel like part of the reason Gronk’s receiving productivity has declined is because of his contract that had some incentive bonuses. Possibly a combination of that and ensuring he stays healthy.  So if I’m BB and know that the more he’s involved in the passing game the more likely he is to suffer an injury AND if he hits certain statistical milestones he gets more money.... seems like the perfect recipe and justification to limit his touches.
