TE Rob Gronkowski (3 Viewers)

I follow this trhead more for the fantasy prospects of Brady than I do Gronk. I expect Gronk to be good, better than good, but not Jimmy graham good all year. But I do think it can do nothing but help Brady and maybe Ridley.

I think people are underestimating the recovery time here. it's one thing for the arm to heal, from a thousand infections, but compunding this, he also had back surgery.

So, once those two are healed, it's not like he can just walk on the field. Dude hasn't touched weights all offseason, he has no strength. Im sure he is crash coursing in the weight room, but it's still gonna take time to get some strength/size back. You don't just magically put muscle back on, it's a deliberate process.

If I was his Dad, and he had 4 infections from their care, I'd be apprehensive too. I'd tell my son to be cautious as hell......and come back when he is ready. Not so he can help millions of fantasy geeks who drafted him at 6.10 in a fantasy league....

hes a tremendous athlete even compared to his peers in the NFL and will rule the field as soon as he steps on it.

What seems to be the problem here? Does Gronk need to have his usual superhuman strength to get back on the football field with mere mortals? Does he have to benchpress one VW bus instead of his usual 2? Is this all a ploy to motivate Amendola to hit the field lock step with him? Seriously Gronk, get your ### back in there!

Good thing Julius Thomas fell into my lap or this would be a real nightmare.
Yeah, Jordan Cameron for me, and Cameron wont be coming out of my lineup once Gronk is back either.

In my other league where I waited for a TE, so far this year Ive started Fred Davis, Brent Celek, Brandon Myers, Heath Miller, and this week it looks like Garrett Graham. Absolutely blows a big bag of donkey richards.

Rob Gronkowski (back, forearm) was limited in Wednesday's practice.
Just like 14 other Patriots. We likely won't learn anything about Gronkowski until the weekend. FOX Sports' Jay Glazer reported Sunday that Gronkowski was targeting a Week 6 return. Gronkowski remains day-to-day.

Rob Gronkowski (back) told reporters following Wednesday's limited practice that he's still "not sure yet" when he'll resume playing.
Gronk is tentatively believed to be targeting a Week 6 return. "Not sure yet," said Gronkowski. "We’re going day by day right now, and tomorrow’s another day and we’ll go from there. When I’m ready, I’m ready. I mean, if it’s this Sunday, next Sunday, Sunday after, it’s just going day by day and so I really couldn’t tell you when it’s going to be so it’s kind of hard to answer that."

Why? Seems like he's giving an honest answer here.

He knows I need him and he's taking his sweet time coming back. What an #######.

In all seriousness, his answer is quintessential Belichick-speak. He certainly has a much better idea of his return timetable than that. Though I guess we shouldn't be surprised by it at this point, nor can I fault the logic of not tipping your hand to your opponent.

Everyone outside of Brady has to handle everything under the strict guidance of BB - If Gronk gave an answer like "yes, week 6 I intend on playing" he would be dealing with punishment from good ol' Bill.

gronk is gonna need to score like 20+ points a game to make this wait worth while. if you took him in the 3rd round so much for him being back in week 3 or 4. smh

if your in the fgpc you'll get week 6, 7, 8, 9, and 11 out of him if your lucky..
He's going to need to score 20+ points a game just to earn a position in my lineup ahead of Cameron and Gates. As long as he's back by week 13 for the playoffs I'll be happy.

I'm starting to think there was a set-back with him now

Easy to say after the fact.

Hind-sight is 20/20
Look earlier in this thread and there were doubters.
The week 2-3 return was always hopeful. Around week 4 was "expected" but only after things were looking up from the original 6 week prognostication.

At this point, a week 6 return would only disappoint because it sounded like he might beat that estimate, which ain't happening. Now, if it goes beyond week 6, I'd say real concern should arise over if/how well he can recover this year (or further for dynasty purposes).

The Bengals aren't all that, so they can afford to sit him out for one more game. If he misses the Saints game, then I will be a very concerned Gronk owner.

They're favored in this game...
Yeah, I really don't get this comment. For one, it's the NFL. "Any given sunday" as they say, and every week counts. A LOT. If Gronk's healthy and ready, he will go, regardless of opponent. Now, would they perhaps "rush" him back a little if it were a late season key showdown with big playoff implications as opposed to a game against the Jags with little potential fall out? I could see that.

But at this early stage of the season, they are going to put him in when they feel and he feels the injury is healed and he is not at risk. MAYBE a #### team like the Jags would convince them to hold off a week, but other than that his return is not going to be based upon matchups.

And he certainly won't sit (if he is healthy that is / to get one more week of rest) for a pretty good Bengals team that's in conference who are not exactly huge underdogs.

Gronk 5.02, currently 3-1 and 4/12 standings checking in.

Buuut my fill-in option was Cook, so that's been rough the last 3 weeks. And I suspect I'll lose this week dropping me to 3-2.

I'll be happy if he comes back in week 6 and plays well. If it's week 8 I will be happy. If it's in time for the playoffs I will be satisfied...assuming I make the playoffs anything. This all assumes he plays like GRONK when he gets back, or shortly thereafter.

I think this post is stupid.

Sudfeld sucked and never played.
As much as I want to be optimistic about Gronk's status seeing that Sudfeld was cut, I am agreeing with this.

And this isn't the first time people have seen Pat's TE's make the roster after cuts, or seen TE's get cut, and thought it meant Gronk was going to play.

Agree completely. This is all that really matters.

We in the fantasy community tend to forget that these gladiators are actually living, breathing human beings. Gronk will come back as soon as his body feels right. If you drafted him without filling out your team with other good players and a proper backup, then it's your bad and that is why you are losing. Get over it.
The irony in your post is that Gronk's response and his real timeline to get back on the field seems to be quite the opposite of a "gladiator."

If by gladiator you mean an actual roman gladiator then your post almost makes sense.

Gronk has still been practicing. Is there any information on WHAT he has been doing though? ie., is he just doing drills or has he been practicing with Brady?

He's been practicing with Brady and taking hits. I recall an article a couple of weeks ago saying he was catching touchdown passes in practice. I really think the Patriots are holding him out as long as possible unit their schedule gets difficult. It makes a lot of sense.

just overheard on an nfl network update that gronk wants to play this weekend but is still viewed as a long shot

not sure of the source, since i was in the middle of something and was just listening to the audio.

regardless, it doesnt change anything... but the exact its the exact opposite of what was being reported last week, that his camp was the one holding gronk out

Everyone catches touchdown passes in practice.

I believe the point is that they wouldn't be called "TD receptions" even in practice if he wasn't going against defenders in some way...

Gronkowski is a "bonus" right now. If you didn't draft well enough to be competitive without him, probably time to get what you can from a team with a good record who can afford to wait. It was probably that time a week or so ago, but moreso now.

The Pats keep doing you guys a favor. They could have him be a GTD each week and/or activate him and not use him much.
Once he's active, I don't think he's limited... Unless he suffers a setback in which case I will declare grabbing Gronk in the 6th was a bad move...

I've already conceded getting him in the 4th was garbage in another league.
