TE TE a Viable Strategy? (1 Viewer)

I was searching for a thread on this already, but I couldn't find one so I figured I'd post it myself. The question is simple: If you're picking at the back end of the first round in a league with a RB/WR/TE flex, is it a viable strategy to take Gronk AND Graham? You would certainly be giving yourself a HUGE advantage week in and week out at both your TE slot and flex spot in all likelyhood since you own the entire top tier of TEs. The flip side of this is that you may end up rather thin at some other position (most likely RB). I'm not really sure about how I feel about this situation at all, so I figured I'd pose it to you all. Thoughts?

I'm a big proponent of taking Graham or Gronk in the 1st, early 2nd in PPR leagues this year -- I think their value is more than justified. But going TE/TE in a league where you can only start one TE? That's just not going to help you, particularly because there are quite a few other TEs that will be valuable enough that you won't really be hurting the rest of your league that much.

Assume this

(Assume its 2 RB, 3WR, 1 RB/WR/TE flex)
should be (Assume its 2 RB, 3WR, 1TE, 1 RB/WR/TE flex). Either way I think you lose more value at either RB/WR than you gain at TE/flex (especially if either/both fail to come anywhere close to repeating last year's performance)

I would take both simply because their value right now is higher than all but the top few RBs/WRs on a total points scored basis. I would probably then flip one of them for a top WR + whatever to diversify value.

1.5 TE PPR makes this even more attractive. I have a feeling once the FBGPC drafts start to kick off the Gronk/Graham are gone before the 12/13 turn. I would be surprised if people have the opportunity to double dip.

every player has some risk. roddy could be injured, britt/murray/dmac/stafford are likely to get hurt as well. cruz/julio/aj green only have 1 year of good production ect...

to me, the risk that they play well again is a player vs player argument and not a te-te strategical argument.

the only think you really loose by doing this is some flexibility at your flex position down the road. by the 6th/7th round, your going to be limited to a single position rather than bpa at rb/wr/te if you keep your flex open.

if you plan your draft well, this would be a pretty easy thing to accomidate so to me, filling my flex so early would not be much of a concern

in 1.5 TE PPR, gronk and graham should be the #1 and 2 picks. it would be foolish to take a foster/calvin/rodgers over them, let alone pass on them at the turn
