#Colts GM Chris Ballard on TE Tyler Warren:
“He can do a lot. He can play multiple spots. He can play in the backfield. He’s a great 50-50 ball catcher. He’s violent after the catch. He brings an element of toughness that I thought we needed to add offensively.”

“The issue is that Anthony Richardson last year finished dead LAST in completion rate among all quarterbacks. And then Daniel Jones…”
“This is not a passing offense we're high on at ALL.”
@notJDaigle on why he doesn’t love TE Tyler Warren in fantasy this year:

I would think maybe moreso at Richardson. Didn’t he check himself out of a game because he was tired?Noah Compton

Anybody else reading this as a passive aggressive shot at J Taylor? Not suggesting Warren is coming for his spot in the backfield.
This was my first thought as well, but after some time, I don't think the spot is as bad. Shane Steichen uses TE's. His scheme is a really good fit for Warren. He is going to get the ball a lot and Warren's run after the catch ability is special. Richardson has been terrible, but if he isn't massively improved, Jones is going to play. Jones wasn't worth the big deal he got in New York, but he was a decent QB before he got hurt. He should be able to give something like league average QB play. I don't think the Colts are the team to use Warren's versatility. His best case as a fantasy player was to go somewhere that would give him wildcat snaps.I'm torn.
Could be a better real life player than fantasy player...landing spot is brutal.
I think he will be either 1st or 2nd in targets. Fade Pittman and possibly Mitchell as well, who in my opinion hasn’t learned the position yet. This was my first thought as well, but after some time, I don't think the spot is as bad. I think Goedert in 21 and 22 is a realistic expectation, and he got over 5 targets a game.I think he will be either 1st or 2nd in targets. “Wednesday was a very active day for rookie tight end Tyler Warren. And this wasn’t Warren catching a bunch of underneath passes either. No matter the quarterback, Warren was a frequent target of Anthony Richardson and Daniel Jones, mainly during the 7-on-7 sessions. Simply, Warren moves differently from most tight ends at this size.”
It was practically impossible to watch an Indianapolis practice and not notice how often Warren touched the football. Any doubts about him having a notable role were erased in the first week of OTAs, when he could be seen running drag routes or matching up with linebackers in the middle of the field. The Colts had a league-low 39 receptions from their tight ends last season, but expect that to improve.
"I think he's had a great spring," quarterback Daniel Jones said of Warren. "He's made a lot of plays for us out here, and you can see his feel, his instincts, his strength, just his ability to go up and catch the ball." -- Stephen Holder

"What Tyler Warren showed on Friday was that natural ability to snare passes all over his catch radius. That’s probably what separates Warren a bit, in bringing such free-flowing hands and running stride to the tight end position."

Tyler. Warren.
Perfect for the Colts accurate QBs.

Tyler Warren pulled in the TE version of an OBJ catch, leaping backward full extension and pulling the ball in one-handed on a deep seam.
The crowd loved that one, too.

REMINDER:
Brock Bowers broke the NCAA single-season yardage record (1,051) by a TE from a power conference.
Then Tyler Warren broke THAT record – by 400 MORE yards (1,451).
BALLER.

Since (extremely) young quarterbacks who’ve played 12 full NFL games are allowed to get better— I ain’t using any excuses not to draft Tyler Warren in fantasy
He is not and won’t be Brock Bowers, but I bet he could double his TD #’s (5) - The ADP will wise
I missed him in dynasty so I really need to get some redraft shares, he's going to be so good.3/40 so far in the 1st half
Sure and you like to see it but they did not play Downs or Pittman....and it's preseason.Heavily involved.

One thing I heard: Last year, a rookie tight end named Brock Bowers led his team in targets. (He also did way more impressive things, such as setting a rookie tight end receiving yardage record, but focus on the targets right now.) I wondered if the Colts' front office believes rookie tight end Tyler Warren, another guy who specializes in turning quick touches into big gains with yards after the catch, could do the same.
Yes, it does. There is no hiding the excitement in Indianapolis for having a legitimate talent at tight end for the first time in years. I'm not sure Warren will get enough routes to actually lead the team in targets, as he'll be used plenty as a blocker even on passing downs. But there is a large chapter of the Colts' playbook that has opened up exclusively because Warren is in the building. He's going to get his -- third down, red zone, two-minute drives. And if he produces early, expect the portion of the pie that is schemed up for him to grow and grow.
upgrade over Richardson has been the consensus on the podcast circuit. I tend to agree.Nobody's fading after Dimebag Danny was anointed?
I want to agree. I really do. But I am afraid of many more 3 and outs and many more turnovers with Jones. At least Richardson's legs might have kept the sticks moving. And I know Jones was once a decent runner but has he really done much running since ripping up his knee? He just seems like a skittish shell of himself and to me it looks like they're tankingupgrade over Richardson has been the consensus on the podcast circuit. I don't think anyone will argue that Jones is an uninspiring QB. But last year was his first year back from his ACL which he tore in 2023 and he still rushed for 265 in 11 games.I want to agree. Fading?Nobody's fading after Dimebag Danny was anointed?
I will dig for stats later, but I'll also take your word for it, but...really? Or is that just what he WOULD be if he wasn't looking downfield and throwing picks and uncatchable balls for another 3 and out.Nobody's fading after Dimebag Danny was anointed?
Jones is the new Captain Checkdown
TE is really such a mecurial position that you're either riding with one of the elite guys or you're in a sense settling for what's left and you're OK with that because there'll be a week where that guy is a + for your lineup.Okay. So full disclosure time.
When I posted my skepticism, I had already drafted him. The nonstop gushing all over the podcast universe finally got to me. And some would say I reached a bit, taking him ahead of Hockensen, Engram, Njoku, and perhaps unbelievably, Kelce.
I was planning on pairing him with Kraft but when Kelce fell to me, I took him too. Then--and I'm ok with ridicule--I took Kraft as well!
So now I might be in a literal keep/trade/cut situation, but I want to audition all 3 for at least 2 weeks first.
And so...with all of that in mind...who are you starting out of those 3 in week 1?
Warren and Pittman have 6 targets so far which is double from anyone else.LOVE the early usage on Colt's first drive.

He lookss legit. We might just be in a new era where TEs don't take years to develop. I think Harold Fannin has 6 catches, 1 rush and 65 yards himself.Brock’s records have officially been put on notice.
Sorry Brock, but Tyler is my new best friend.
What a day and congrats on others who stole Warren later in drafts.Warren and Pittman have 6 targets so far which is double from anyone else.LOVE the early usage on Colt's first drive.

Got to love it so far very involved in the offense and bonus if you got him later in draft.

Nathan Jahnke - NFL Week 1 Recap: Immediate fantasy football takeaways from Sunday's games
Tyler Warren is already a must-start tight end: Warren caught seven passes for 76 yards and is already playing enough snaps to be a fantasy starter.
The Colts' tight end room was one to completely ignore in recent seasons because they used a constant three-man, or sometimes four, rotation. That all changed when Indianapolis spent its first-round pick on Warren, whose preseason usage was excellent, as he played each of the first 20 snaps of their first game and 14 of the 15 snaps with the starters in their second game.
Warren played 78% of Indianapolis' offensive snaps before garbage time. This included over 80% of the 11-personnel snaps, but there were several 12-personnel snaps where Mo Alie-Cox and Drew Ogletree were the two tight ends. While it would have been great for Warren to play 100% of Indianapolis' offensive snaps, this is very strong usage for a fantasy starting tight end. He was on the field for 27 of the Colts’ 33 pass plays before garbage time.
Warren should already be considered a must-start fantasy tight end. Anyone who drafted Warren and another tight end in case Warren didn’t work out can cut or trade that other tight end for a player at a different position.
